Leafs Trade Incoming… Report Reveals HUGE Update | Toronto Maple Leafs News
Toronto May Leaf’s next move has been leaked as a huge new report has dropped revealing a Leafs trade. Not only that has fans fairly split, but following a wild win yesterday has big implications going forward. We’re going to break down exactly what this report is and discuss what this trade means going forward as well as a ton of other things on this episode. Ladies and gentlemen, before we get into it all, you’re part of the percentage who aren’t subscribed to the channel. This is the place to be for daily leafs content. There’s a lot to go over today and of course new reports are starting to fly about trades. There’s obviously a lot of updates that are going on and of course at this point yesterday’s win you were live streaming it. It was absolutely crazy and new reports dropped during the game after the game tons of news. So stay tuned for a lot of content here. But this is the latest report with Quinn who’s off the market. Rasmus Anderson remains one of the top defenseman available in a new report from Pierre LeBron and others have revealed that the Leafs are among one of the teams of a couple interested in Rasmus Anderson. Toronto explored a trade last year and he is believed to be open to signing an extension in Toronto if it works out and the Leafs are open to trading for him once again this year and that they have circled back on him. So this is actually pretty big news. Now clearly uh this team I mean you think about I mean depending on you know the your thoughts on the game bears of course for the first two periods people ready to sell the whole team fire Craig Brew and a lot of people still feel that way but despite what we think Brad for living is trying to upgrade and trying to buy it seems ahead of what’s going to be a wild next few weeks. >> Yeah and a lot of people were you know talking about Craig Brew. I don’t think it’s Craig Brew’s problem at this point. I think it’s definitely on the players and there’s there’s a lot to dissect here. We just watched the game last night where the Leafs did not show up for 50 minutes and then they finally did, especially for the last 5 minutes and came away with a pretty lucky win, I think. So, surely Rasmus Anderson will fix this Leafs team, right? If you think about it that way. So, you know, I’m usually not too pessimistic, but I have to look at it from that lens at this point where it’s like, could Rasmus Anderson improve this team a little bit defensively? Maybe. But is he going to move the needle that much? I I don’t know. I think there’s a problem still in the room with the players specifically, but when you take a look at this in a vacuum and you’re talking about just Rasmus Anderson, I think the Leafs are definitely open to trading for him. Brad Living, there is a connection to Calgary, of course, and he had this player under him in his regime as Calgary Flames general manager, of course. So, that makes a lot of sense. Signed to this contract. He’s on an expiring deal. It is believed that the player would resign with the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as per the report, this brand new report. However, the one thing I’m still caught up on is the fact that I don’t know if he moves the needle that much for this team, especially because he is playing a little bit worse than he has been in previous years. But Calgary, would they even trade him to Toronto? That’s the other thing that’s hung up here. But the player himself, it’s pretty interesting. We’ll get into why he could help this team, why he could be a fit, but the Leafs would have to move out a couple pieces as well. >> Yeah, and obviously he is a very solid defenseman. And you can see here that interest points to a key question for the Leafs. Do they prioritize a top four defenseman or a topline winger to help Matthews get back to his elite level? Now, let’s dive into it here. $4.5 million capit. Again, the report says he’s open to extending. We had this exact conversation almost a year ago and actually I think a year ago throughout, you know, the months leading up to the trade deadline in the weeks. He is projected to get a hefty contract. That’s something else that we’re going to have the discuss. You look at last year, 31 points in 81 games. We’ll dive into his stats from this year briefly here. But Darus, something to keep in mind is yes, an extension that’s a good sign that they’d be able to lock him up so it wouldn’t be a rental. But also, do you want to pay Ras Anderson $9 million and then have Rasmus and Morgan Riley both making above whatever it is 78 million as a tandem? That’s the big question. You can look at some of the comparisons, whether that be Devin Taves of the Avalanche, no Hannah, all these guys. It is very notable. Now, in the same vein, this team does need defensive help among a few other things. And you can make an argument that they do have enough forwards to if you surround them with the right pieces and everything goes right. I think they can make a deep playoff run with who they have. Things need to change. They need to play a lot better. But regarding the defense, obviously Chris Tann that’s up in the air a little bit. You know, Brandon Carlo is going to be out for a very long time. You have to figure out something. Thun’s filled in fine. Benois filled in or I guess played decent. Obviously, Stetcher has been a diamond in the rough, but for a guy like Rasmus Anderson, he would help provide some offense and then all of a sudden, whether for good or for bad here, you would have Morgan Riley, Oel, and Rasmus Anderson, three very good offensive defensemen. Is that going to help? It could, and it could end up working out and unlocking the entire team, or it could be the beginning of a disastrous defensive group that doesn’t actually work out. However, I do want to point out here if an extension goes through, I think having Rasmanders in here with specifically Chris Tanv back could be something that really plays well, especially with Oel and he’s only in year two, he’s having a breakout year of his Leaf’s tenure. Of course, he’s had some good years in Florida as well. >> Yeah. And I mean, when you look at the trade deadline last year and they brought in Brandon Carlo, assuming that this trade were to go through and they would to acquire, you know, Rasmus Anderson, Brandon Carlo would probably have to be moved somehow, right, to make the salary cap work. And if you have a defensive pairing, and I know I was pretty complimentary of Carlo at the time when they acquired him, but if you have a defense pairing that looks something like up and down, you know, on the right side of maybe OAL’s there, you have Tana back in the lineup and then you have obviously Rasmus Anderson. That looks a lot better to me, right? That is just a lot better, I think, at that point. So that’s pretty interesting. But I am a little skeptical because I think the Leafs, you know, the last couple years or maybe already like seven years ago at this point were had all offensive defenseman and maybe some smaller guys as well. And then they were like, “We need to change this.” So then they went to these bigger bodies, these heavier bodies, your Jake Mabes, and you need a Jake McCabe, I think, to win the Stanley Cup. He’s a great player. But then you go to the Brandon Carlos, right? Like these heavier, bigger bodies, and they get a little bit slower. Your Simone Benois of the world. And now it looks like they’re trying to rectify it again. And you’re going to have Riley, you’re going to have Oel and another offensive defenseman in Raasmus Anderson to your point, Nick. Right. So I’m a little skeptical about that. But ultimately the biggest thing I’m hung up on honestly is I just don’t think Calgary is going to trade with the Leafs and Brad Living from their point of view. I think Brad Living wants this player. I think this player could actually make a lot of sense for the Leafs, especially this year. The cap is going up and do you want to spend $9 million the projection at least on Rasmus Anderson? Well, that’s where the cap is going. You’re going to have a lot more cap to play with in the future, right? So that could end up looking okay and working out okay and he is a pretty solid defenseman. His offensive numbers have come down a little bit, but Calgary hasn’t been that good, right? So you have to keep that in mind as well. So it’s it’s very interesting. Now what do they give up for Rasmus Anderson? You’re going to have to give up some roster players. You have to free up some salary cap space. So whether it’s in a trade for Rasmus Anderson himself or uh you know another trade and then you trade for Rasmus Anderson as a subsequent trade, whatever that looks like, you’re going to have to, you know, spend some uh assets, right, to get this player and obviously offload some money. So I think that’s where things get very interesting. I think Calgary would want something pretty significant if they’re going to give him up at this point. But if they are backed into a corner where he’s not going to resign with the Flames, I wonder if that opens doors to a trade, but I just don’t know if they want to trade with Brad. >> Yeah. And that’s going to have to They didn’t want to last year. They didn’t want to when they had Nikita Zadorov. Uh and ultimately, you know, there’s been a lot of weird things back. >> Yeah. Chris Tanov as well. So I it’s going to be notable there. Now, also Nick Robertson, he’s obviously the guy who stands out the most. If you’re Calgary, I think especially I would, you know, Nick Robertson has better value now than he did at any point. Maybe even in his career, just the way that he’s playing, especially if you’re another team. Is that a lot of value? Maybe not. But it’s definitely more than maybe not his career, but at least more than in the offseason this time. And let’s look at, you mentioned it, Nick, uh, not Nick, Rasmus Anderson stats. And of course, Nick Robertson’s good as well, but Rasmus 22 points in 33 games this year. So, he’s he’s been hot as well as of late. He’s on track for pretty solid numbers right around what his career is. And you mentioned he had a really down season last year offensively, at least in the sense of total points. Not a crazy down year, anything like that, but being able to put up 22 total points in 33 games with a Calgary Flames team. That is as bad as it is pretty encouraging. He’s had years of 50 points, basically 49 points the year after that. It slowly went down though over the past couple of seasons. Is that because the Flames ended up selling off? Matthew Kachchuck and all these guys. It’s possible they’ve been in a downward spiral, but you mentioned it there. Does Brad for a living? Will he be able to pull off a deal with the Flames? I think if there’s not a lot of teams interested in Rasams Anderson, I’m not entirely sure there’s going to be a lot of them at this point. Maybe the Leafs can come in and swoop in for what’s going to end up having to be Nick Robertson and some draft capital. I don’t think a first round pick is going to be in play here. I don’t think the Leafs are going to, if they even have enough to, you know, capital depending on what the Flames offer. Nick Robertson maybe another player a prospect and a pick you know a later round pick that could work out especially given the fact that he is a rental and maybe Rasmus Sanderson wants to come to Toronto and he doesn’t want to extend with some of the other teams that could also force the uh the Flames hand. Yeah. And last couple things here, too. If this trade were to go through, let’s say hypothetically, if they were to make this, I think it would have to come with a contract extension in place, right? You would have to get him signed. There’s no world you can trade for this guy and not have a contract in place. That would be an absolute disaster. So, that’s the first thing. And I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned it to this point in the video, but you look at the points and you made some good points about his career highs and stuff like that, and it looks like he’s on pace to, you know, have a pretty good season this year, but he has taken a dip in the last couple of years. Um, in terms of that, he isn’t really up there in the upper echelon of offensive defenseman, but he plays with that snarl. Something that I I I really like and I think you need both, right? You need to be a little bit crazy, right? And uh, you know, play on the edge sometimes and also be able to produce whether it’s defensively or offensively. So, I think that he has that aspect in his game. He has that X factor and of course he has like that stare down Sy that he does every time he scores, which is pretty funny. So, um, you know, I I do like the player. I just really wonder like how does this get done? But I do truly believe Bradley Living has actively been trying to get some of these players like Chris Tanniv. It was no surprise and then he ended up a leave out of Calgary. >> Yeah. And you look at the bottom six of the Flames on the forward group. A lot of them are in or approaching the last year of their contracts and a lot of them are RFAS and UFAS. So there’s obviously spots there for Nick Robertson or somebody else to slide in and fill in some of those spots if they don’t want to extend those guys. They want to go younger and cheaper. But let us know down below what your thoughts are on this thoughts on this story. Do you want to see Rasp Anderson on a leaf or do you think that this would just compound an already rough situation on their blue

Spend that money on a top six forward with a little bit of guts😊
Trade Carlo and Robertson for Andersson.
Then run Rielly-Tanev, McCabe-Andersson, OEL-Stecher and have Benoit on the bench.
Anderson is actually having a solid season with 7 goals and 15 assists in 34 games, last year 11 and 20 in 81 games, so he's doing pretty good. I'd love to have him, but, I agree with Darius, I doubt Calgary would trade him to Toronto without the "Leaf tax".

MERRY CHRISTMAS BOYS, THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT CONTENT!

I’ll never understand why Morgan Rielly can’t be turned into a middle six winger?!?!?
No way Calgary trades with Toronto. Nice story but doubtful.
A lucky win indeed beating a Team without their best player…wow, that was impressive. The hapless Leafs beat the 27th Team in the 32 Team League.
Come on guys it’s been two years already Dunb Tree is ONLY making the call but not actually making a deal , he is in every trade but didn’t able to actually compete the deal unless 1. Small insignificant trade 2. Get rip off by the other team
FIRE Dumb Tree until is too late
What are we even talking about? So we are saying they only showed up for 10 minutes? This statement is not based off any stats. The advanced stats say otherwise
From trade rumor that flames asking price for Rasmus Andersson is young player and young defensemen and prospect and 1st round pick without an extension if true or not we will see ?
Treliving will never land Anderson. Just watch.
Is anderson a right shot top 6 power forward??…..fire treliving if this is being considered!
From trade rumors that leafs top defenseman trade target is Rasmus Andersson and if leafs can't make a trade then leafs 2nd target is Conner Murphy and if leafs can't make a trade for Conner Murphy then 3rd target is Mario Ferraro
Lets quote Don Cherry…The leafs will never win with this core!
Mortgaging their future on a super slim chance of winning now. IS INSANE
Forget Robertson as a trade piece – no one wants him.
Calgary will trade with Toronto but I just don’t see Toronto being able to outbid other teams.
Let's get older. Call Tucker,Roberts,Gilmour and Wendel.
Reilly send him home for Boeser?
shouldve/should be trading for erik karlsson
You need gritty Canadian born players if you want a stanley cup championship…problem isnt defence its the core offence that shows up when they feel like it…🤦🏻♂️
No chance to win with #44 in the team! Too slow and not a defense !!! Trade him ASAP…is a total waste of money…
Just wait and sign him as a free agent next year no point going for it now dont trade away your future for a guy you could get next year in free agency …… gives you time to look at other potentials next year and got to get rid of Morgan reilly somehow ….. target 4 players … 1. Alex tuck 2.boone Jenner 3. Rasmus Anderson 4.nic hague with reilly gone you would have 27 million in cap space
Knies mathews tuck
Cowan Jenner nylander
Joshua tavares mcmann
Lorentz laughton roy
Hague Anderson
Oel tanev
Mccabe carlo
Stretcher
Stolarz
Woll
Hildeby
Key notes trade robertson jarnkrok machelli and danford for nic hague now … other 3 can get in free agency also get rid of benoit too and try and get stenlund he can play anywhere in the bottom 6 easily and thats a Stanley cup team right there
Sure but you would have to trade Nylander or Knies, Cowan, Danford and a first Throw in Carlo to make the money work.
He is a #1 one defenceman.
They might trade him but you have to have the assets.
Do you guys think flames would take Thrun and Carlo for Andersson ?
Fire the coach and get it over with.
The only trade that will happen is Morgan Rielly the West Vancouver guy and max Domi to the Vancouver Canucks for Tyler Myers and Kiefer Sherwood maybe also Brock Boesor if you want to throw in Easton Cowan. That covers Toronto's needs left Winger right winger and a right-handed defenseman.
Berube is NOT THE PROBLEM I KEEP HIM FOR NOW. MAYBE A NEW GENERAL MANAGER. Unless does something Awesome.
Problem solved.😅😅😅
ByJuly leaf fans will want him traded. Seriously nothing dumber than a leaf fan.
A 30 year old defenseman wanting $9 million for 5-6 years? What could possibly go wrong?
We don’t need an old overpriced defence there is so many alternatives
REILLY is used to hanging around the opponent's net, anyway.
Unfortunately, most of the time this happens, the opponent has the puck, and the play has advanced to the Leaf's blue line!
The Leafs need a top 6 forward, an enforcer, and 2 huge (6'5" or taller) "GRITTY," d-men. Toronto continues to lack, team "TOUGHNESS!" NO snot and NO identity. IMO.
I like you guys , channels great but you and all of us know it’s gonna be a forward we need help up front…
Leafs Power Play needs new strategy. It's a big part of the problem so far this season. Leafs have the fewest PP chances in the league this season and the 3rd worst PP Pct. So far they only have 12 PP Goals, lowest in the NHL, compared to Dallas with 33 PP Goals.
How about Carlo for Andersson? one for one I was a big Carlo fan but this year he has not had anywhere near a break out season – injury exception – and throw in Myers?
Come on guys! you report on hockey. You think Robinson‘s gonna move the needle to get Andersson? come on. It’s gotta be a high level prospect plus a 1DP, as the base minimum, multiple teams have contacted the Flames after Hughes trade . Come on man, Robertson lmao. I’m hearing Knives or Cowan are the starters from other analyst, and don’t forget the Leaf tax
Leafs need players that actually have heart trade the big $ before you can't get jack for them
