Raptors & Hawks Most Interested In Anthony Davis
Yo, what’s going on guys? And today we’ll be discussing a report that’s coming from Jake Fischer of the Mark Stein Line about the trade landscape around Anthony Davis. So, let’s get right into it. I want to hear your thoughts. What do you guys expect for Anthony Davis and why? Seems like the Raptors and the Hawks are the two teams that should be interested in him. And to me, it makes a ton of sense. Hey, with the Raptors, dude, they’re in a position that if they want to push their chips to the middle of the table and they feel like they can actually go out and do this, I don’t think it’s a disillusionment of them to think that’s possible to put themselves into contendership by doing a move like this. And I don’t think it’s going to cost them too much. Same thing goes with the Hawks. So, let’s get right into it. Let me hear your thoughts. Like, comment, and subscribe. It’ll help out the China a ton. And go check out my work at hoopship.com. As the deadline approaches, the market for Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is taking shape. [music] Though significant hurdles remain for any acquiring team, per Jake Fischer of the Stein Line. The most substantive interest has emerged from the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks. But the traction on any deal has been slowed by the steep price tag set by the Mavericks front office. Davis’s situation is a complex evaluation for scouts. His recent activity, participating teams Monday shootaround before being held out of the game in Utah, highlights the ongoing management of his availability, a factor that complicates negotiations. His contract, which carries Supermax financial commitment, similar to Janosant Kmpo in Milwaukee, adds another layer of difficulty for a team looking to structure a workable trade framework. Plus, he wants a max extension. Allegedly, Dallas has made it clear to the league they are not in the business of a salary dump. acquired as the centerpiece return in the controversial Luca Dodonic deal last February from Los Angeles. Dallas is viewed as a major asset for the Mavericks. The Mavs brass has communicated they will only move him for a package that delivers a franchise altering return, a real consequence, player or package that moves the needle for their roster construction. In Atlanta, the basketball operations team led by Ani Salai has hit a wall in formulating a credible offer. League sources indicate they cannot assemble a competitive package without including either franchise cornerstone Trey Young or big man Kristoff Porzingis, a non-starter for their plans, allegedly, which personally I would do the deal around Kristoff Porzingis. Sorry. Now, furthermore, the Hawks have no intention of putting the valuable 2026 first round pick they hold from the New Orleans Pelicans into play. Dallas is considered unlikely to have serious interest in Trey Young given their backcourt commitment to Kyrie Irving alongside Cooper Flag. Porzinga’s path is clouded by the Latvian’s current battle with pots for an illness creating uncertainty around his immediate availability. Not to mention the history of his previous tenure in Dallas ending with his 2022 trade to Washington. And from my understanding, it wasn’t like kumbboy ya like he just it wasn’t the best. It wasn’t a great fit in Dallas and that was part of the reason why he got traded. So for the Hawks to do this deal, let’s say Porzingis were to get traded somewhere else, cuz I really don’t think they would trade Mr. Trey Young for Anthony Davis. And if the Hawks were to do this, again, it’s the Porzingis deal. Whether you like it or not, $54 million is what Davis is making. while Porz and the thing is is like whether they like Porzingis or not, the Mavs would get salary cap relief with his expiring contract that they’re not required to, you know, resign him or they could get him on a cheaper deal. I would not trade Jaylen Johnson or Trey Young. Now, outside of that, would you include Zachary Reese? Cuz you could say a deal of Kristoff Porzingis, Zachary for Anthony Davis. I think that’s a pretty you give him the former number one pick in salary cap relief. I think that’s a pretty solid deal. And if you don’t want to include Zachary Shay, if you’re the Hawks, the other one that I think you could be interested in is a Luke Canard, Asa Newwell, and then you tell the Mavericks maybe to throw in just as salary filler or just like to to have the the roster construction. Dwight Powell and Anthony Davis for Kristoff Porzingis, Luke Canard and Asa Newell. Newwell being a former first round pick last year. Lukanard on an expiring one-year deal of 11 million and Porzingis on 30.7 million expiring and then you get front court depth with Dwight Powell just to fill up Asa New Well’s minutes and then Anthony Davis. Now north of the border, the Raptors level of interest is confirmed, but the specifics of any potential offer from the front office remains a mystery at this stage of the trade season. They are reluctant to include Jakob Purle in a trade for Damont Sabonis. That’s the limited intel on what combination of players and draft capital they’d be willing to put forward. So to me, when you look at a situation like that, we’re gonna put down two trades right here, one with Purle and one without Ple. So what would that deal look like without Purle if they were really insistent of not including a guy like Yakob Purle? I I obviously think it’s going to be around RJ Barrett, whether people like that or not. I could see in a world, could it be where it’s Emanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett for Anthony Davis and a guy like Mr. Dwight Powell? Or is there another guy? Could it be Klay Thompson? Cuz right now, if you do that deal, you’re sending out 60 million from the Raptors while you’re while you’re only sending out 54. or if you include a guy like Klay Thompson that brings it up to 70 and it helps clear up both teams would be in the first apron and this allows the Mr. Mavericks to get out of the the second apron by being like 6 million above. So it could be Amanda Quickley, RJ Barrett for Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson. The whole problem with that deal is you would have to include another player from the Raptors to to make up the money because I think the Raptors wouldn’t mind having a guy come in like a Klay Thompson who would be their salary filler. Could this be where it’s an Oiabaji and maybe another young guy that they aren’t the biggest fan of or that they’re going to move off of? Like I wouldn’t be surprised if Grady Dick or Jacobe Walter gets traded. I think Grady cuz they don’t want to extend him. And if you’re the the Raptors in this case, you probably want like a minimum guy to come in fill out the back end of the roster. Would that be like a Brandon Williams? Cuz the deal could end up being something along the lines of like Brandon Williams and company. So, I think when you look maybe when you see Brandon Williams in there, what they’re over $3 million. Again, this becomes like a super salary cap gymnastics movie you have to make because the Mavericks would result in crossing the tax apron of $27.8 million. So they any deal involving Davis would have to probably be a straightup swap cuz the Grady Dick and Oi Baji being put in there alongside RJ Barretts would make things a bit more complex as RJ Barrett and I mean quickly together make about 60.2 two and Dallas would need to be able to clear off right there from the books to make that deal work 6 million. So, and then it becomes really hard. So, I think you have to include Yaka Purle in any deal and to make that deal work out. It just becomes really difficult. But I think they would be able to to make it work. I think it would have to be built I if they want to keep a Manny quickly or if they don’t want a man quickly the Mavericks then it’s built around RJ Barrett who seemingly is the odd man out and any deal like that you would have to then make them the Raptors be able to include 6.9 million additional in salary which in that case would Grady Dick making 4.9 or an ochi alongside a maybe a Jonathan Mbo would be able to get the deal done with it being a [snorts] RJ Yaka Purle or Tribage Jonathan Mbo situation. I don’t know. It’s just complex.
Cyro Asseo breaks down the evolving trade market for Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis as the deadline approaches, with league sources identifying the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks as the primary teams showing interest. This report examines why momentum has stalled, focusing on Dallas’ firm stance that Davis will only be moved for a franchise-altering return.
The video analyzes the challenges facing Atlanta, including the reluctance to include Trae Young, Kristaps Porziņģis, or premium draft capital, and why those limitations have effectively frozen talks. Cyro also explores Toronto’s confirmed interest, the uncertainty surrounding any potential Raptors package, and how Davis’ injury management and supermax-level contract complicate negotiations across the league.
Drawing on reporting from Jake Fischer and The Stein Line, this breakdown explains why the Mavericks appear comfortable holding Davis past the deadline and why the current market reflects both his elite upside and the real concerns attached to his availability.
