During an interview with Andrew Gross, new Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman said “we know we’ve got to continue to work on transportation and parking” at UBS Arena.
“We will continue to do that as the campus evolves. We’re not naïve to that. But it’s going to take a little bit of time. It’s also going to take some patience of what can and can’t be done. That’s at any arena. We have lots of parking options and lots of transportation options that a lot of arenas don’t have, including arenas that are in our market. I don’t think it will ever be perfect at any arena… So can we consistently look for better options and improve on them? Absolutely. But you’re always going to be limited at any stadium or any arena.”
Cheeseman also told Gross the Islanders are looking to see if there are better ways to package parking for season-ticket holders.
What are your thoughts on Cheeseman’s comments? Do you think the Islanders need to improve their parking situation?
A pedestrian ramp can still be built over the emerald entrance. I posted about it before on here.

That pedestrian ramp. Then, if they’re not going to use the spur any more, why not build a garage there — or just build one on top of it? It’s prob mad expensive but you’d think the state would split some of it since it would be used for Belmont as well.
a whole lot of words to say nothing, very unlikely the price is going down and the emerald trek is not going anywhere
Well, I dont think you can move the train station any closer
It might be simple but this team needs more giveaways outside of the same 6 ones each year. Something to rival the gravy boat they gave out in Detroit and Buffalo. Even the chicken tenders Zamboni like Vegas has would be a solid addition.
Make parking $10
I noticed there is a seldom used horse track nearby. Can we put parking there?
Screw parking. Figure out how to ease the trek from the LIRR to the entrances.
We need a pedestrian bridge or tunnel from Emerald to arena. We also need about 5 more exits for cars leaving Emerland lot, 45 minutes of funneling a log jam of cars out 1 solitary exit is ridiculous
While the racetrack is under construction, build a tunnel from the Emerald Lot to the arena. You can put moving sidewalks down there and make the trip in a lot less time while being out of the cold and snow.
They just don’t get it and unfortunately never will.
I do Uber on weekends and always head over to UBS just prior to game end and just about every ride I’ve given it is always the same thing “I can’t believe how fast you got us out of here”. Seriously- once I get a pickup on I’m on Cross Island in 5 mins from Ride share area. It’s the way to go to a from games (I’ve don’t it as spectator as well). Uber it.
If the Isles and Cheeseman are serious about growing the audience west of UBS – they have to fix the LIRR. Forget the cost. The whole process of getting on or off a train at UBS is broken.
And then the station is a mile from the arena.
