Thoughts On The Joe Burrow Trade Idea for The New York Jets

[music] All right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. So, I quickly wanted to just give my thoughts on this whole Joe Burrow situation. Um, it seems like, you know, there’s still so many uh fans, so many Jets fans that are pushing this Joe Burrow trade idea once the offseason hits, right? I mean, every week, every week, Joe Burrow is, you know, giving these cryptic answers in press conferences about, you know, the future. Is he happy? Is he not happy? They’re reporters are asking other players about it. It’s just one big drama fest right now when it comes to Joe Burrow. Like, I got to be honest, for me personally, if I was a diehard Bengals fan, I would be irritated with with these comments. You know, I would be just a little like, hey, you know, why is this even a discussion? This is not happening with Josh Allen and the Bills. This is not happening with Justin Herbert and the Chargers. It’s not happening with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs or Jordan Love with the Packers. Why is it happening with us? But before we move on, I do want to give a quick special shout out to today’s video sponsor. So, I want to give a special shout out to today’s video sponsor, Dollar Shave Club. They actually sent me over a cool little package consisting of the Club Series diamond grip handle, a bunch of razors, as well as the Dollar Shave Club shave butter here. And honestly, it’s been awesome so far. What’s really cool, too, is they come in a bunch of different colors, but there’s this uh tab on their site where you can go through and pick out different college teams. Um it’s basically like a college team themed razor. I also think that’s a really good gift idea as well. As far as the blades go, it’s the signature six blade, which consists of six stainless steel blades for the closest and most comfortable shave. They’re long lasting blades and it also comes with a strip uh that has aloe and vitamin E in it for comfort and glide. And last but not least, we have the shave butter here. And this is my personal favorite. Uh number one, it has a translucent formula so you can see where you’re shaving. It’s naturally scented with a blend of essential oils and extracts. And if you use code jets 25, you’ll get 25% off either the first month of a subscription or the first purchase with a minimum purchase of $8. Again, that’s code jets2. So, thank you so much Dollar Shave Club for sponsoring the video. So, here’s the deal. Let’s look at this off seasonason and ask the question, okay, what needs to happen for Joe Burrow to be traded to the Jets. Um, I think first and first and foremost, right, we have to identify the obvious. Is Joe Burrow an upgrade? Yes. Obviously, clearly, you know, it’s probably the easiest answer uh that anybody’s ever been asked. Joe Burrow, when healthy is a top three to four quarterback in football. I don’t think there’s any sort of question about it. like he is amazing when healthy. It makes the idea or the possibility of a trade with Joe Burrow feel almost like astronomically low as far as overall percentage of it happening. Like I’m I’m not going to say zero because I mean Joe Burrow in his recent press conference was literally talking about you know oh crazy things happen in the NFL offseason. Michael Parsons just got traded and whatnot. So, I’m not going to label it as zero, but let’s just kind of rattle off the chain of events that has to happen for the New York Jets to trade Joe Burrow, which again, I feel like is just extremely unlikely. Uh, and to be fair, I I’ve kind of avoided this whole Joe Burrow thing, diving into it, playing up the rumors and everything. Um, I know it’s a big talking point obviously because it’s Joe Burrow and the thought of it is crazy, but I just don’t really I just can’t really see Cincinnati in their right mind actually doing this. So, I think the first step is Joe Burrow would actually have to come out and request a trade. He would have to come out and say, “Cincinnati, peace. I’m done with you guys. I’m not playing.” We’ve seen it before, Carson Palmer, so it’s not out of the equation. But, you know, if you put yourself in Joe Burrow’s shoes, I mean, come on. Like, this is a team that of course picked you number one overall. It seems like they they’ve tried to do everything that they’ve realistically could to supply you with talent, right? They drafting your buddy Jamar Chase, having T. Higgins, extending him, giving him a ton of money, having an offensive-minded head coach and Zack Taylor, building the offense around Joe Burrow, um, doing their best to figure out the offensive line. It hasn’t really worked up to this point, but you you can’t fault Cincinnati for not trying. You know, they went out and they acquired uh Orlando Brown at left tackle from Kansas City, right? They drafted Ararius Mims in the first round. Uh Caris is at center. Dylan Fairchild from uh Georgia was, you know, one of these hotter draft prospects. He ends up being a third round pick. And to be honest, I’ve actually been impressed with what, you know, he’s been able to put together. you know, he’s not some top three guard or anything, but you know, for a 22, 23 year old rookie to step third round pick, not a top 10 pick to step in and start and look good, right? Specifically in pass protection. Like, if I’m Joe Burrow, I’m looking at the roster saying, I have more than enough, right? Not to mention Mike Cassiki, not to mention Noah Fant. Like, this Bengals offense has so much horsepower. So much horsepower compared to, you know, what other teams and what other great quarterbacks have to work with. That’s just the fact of the matter, right? Jamar Chase you can argue is the best wide receiver in football. T. Higgins is the best number two option. The kind of the robin to the Jamar Chase Batman. Burough’s in a great spot. So again, he would have to come out and say I am completely done with this team. From that point, you would have to get Cincinnati to actually agree to trade him, right? Because Burough can Lamar Jackson requested a trade. Baltimore got a deal done with them. Everything’s all good. Right? You see players all the time request a trade. Nothing happens. So Burrow would actually have to come out and do that. Cincinnati would have to essentially grant Joe Burrow, okay fine. We’re going to trade a top three to four quarterback in football in the prime of his career simply because he doesn’t want to be here. The third domino here is that Joe Burrow would have to agree and want to come to the Jets. You can argue why the hell would he do that? It’s it’s a significant downgrade as far as talent, offensive firepower, offensive weapons. I mean, the defense has been a down just downright horrible this season. We’ll see how it all kind of shakes out with Chris Harris here for the remainder, you know, of uh, you know, in the last three games of the season here. But regardless, you know, that’s is Joe Burrow looking at the Jets like, “Yeah, this is a this is a prime destination. I’m really going to flourish over there compared to what I have here over in Cincinnati.” Probably not. I mean, ultimately, the Jets are a bad team right now with a lot of roster holes, a lot of talent deficiencies. It It’s a team that doesn’t have much depth whatsoever. There’s right now a coaching question mark. Um, I think Tanner Instrand has done some good things. He’s obviously a young coach, but it’s not a foregone conclusion. Oh, this guy’s a top 10 OC. We don’t know that. He could be a lot worse. He could be a lot better than what we’ve seen this season, but it’s still a question mark nonetheless. It’s still a part of the unknown. So again, Burrow would have to essentially sign on and be okay with going to a team and going backwards before he goes forwards, right? Which kind of leads you to the main point of the topic of the video anyway, which is why would Joe Burrow want out of Cincinnati? Is it because the team is losing? you know, if he goes to the Jets, it’s you I’m I’m not really sure that that’s a better situation, a better environment for winning games compared to the Cincinnati Bengals. I would hope so, but that it’s again, it’s just up in the air at this point. So, we’re now up to three things. Burrow has to want out. Cincy has to agree to trade him. Burrow has to essentially be okay and and sign on to the New York Jets. You be sold on the idea. Once you have those three things figured out, now you have to figure out the compensation. And if you look at what like Russell Wilson went for or Deshun Watson went for, yeah, these are big time packages. Joe Burrow is better than both of those quarterbacks, was better or is better than both of those quarterbacks when they both got moved. Watson obviously, you know, had the whole off-field thing going on. still went for three first and became the highest paid quarterback in NFL history with a fully guaranteed contract. So, if the Bengals were to move off of Joe Burrow, yeah, it’s going to take more than three ones. I’m sorry. It is. So, you would be parting ways with just an absolute treasure chest of draft picks. So, let’s just kind of play this out, right? By, you know, all these events happen. Burrow becomes a gem and now his fans, Burrow himself, the coaches, they’re like, “All right, cool. let’s, you know, start adding some more players. Well, our our draft picks are basically gone. Um, and now you’re factoring in Joe Burrow. What what do you sign? 5 years, 275 a couple years back. That is a lot of money to infuse in the Jets cap situation. Yes, they can afford it, but now you’re looking at what 50 to 57 mil per season on average. Again, Joe Burrow is worth it. I don’t mind paying franchise quarterbacks, especially top three guys. But again, for a three- win team to basically have no more draft picks, not a lot of talent, not a lot of depth, have some coaching uncertainties at this point, give up all these resources, and then to have what upwards of 50-ish million dollars per season, and I assume that number goes up every year until the contract’s over now on the Jets plate. Is that really the best plan of attack moving forward? And also, if Joe Burrow is supposedly unhappy right now, if he’s tired of losing right now, who’s to say that in two years, it’s just going to be the same old story with the Jets and we’ve given up how much we paid him how much to get him in the building. So, again, on paper, yeah, Joe Burrow to the Jets, you know, complete upgrade. I get it. But just from when you start mapping out like the logistics of how it would happen, what we would have to give up if Cincinnati cuz look the Bengals and the Jets are in the same conference here. Cincinnati would be they would have to be okay essentially granting the Jets of course an elite quarterback but also giving them a potential uh problem or roadblock for the foreseeable future with Joe Burrow. I mean, you’re essentially crowning another team in the AFC like, “Hey, we’re going to pass our guy to you and now you have a better chance of making the playoffs and we have a much less chance, lower chance of making the playoffs until we figure it out.” And one quick point that I think is worth mentioning, Joe Burrow is someone who’s dealt with a lot of injuries, right? Even going back to college, he’s had injuries, he’s had season ending injuries, he’s had serious injuries. The MetLife turf I think needs to be factored in. Uh how big of a factor? Maybe not the biggest, but I do think it should be at least brought up. You know, this is a a field that players don’t like playing on. Coaches, other coaches have talked about it. Other players have talked about it. We’ve seen multiple guys go down with ACL’s and whatnot on this field. I don’t know the science behind it, but what we do know is that players consistently, I want to say every year, talk poorly about the field and how it’s maybe not as good as just typical, you know, grass, right? A typical NFL grass field. I mean, could you imagine being a Jets fan, we get Burrow and he goes down with a season ending injury. I mean, that would just be like, you know, it’s like Aaron Rogers all over again, but with Burrow, he’s still young. you know, we’d have to give up way way way more to go get him. [sighs and gasps] Complete nightmare. That would be a complete complete nightmare. Really, you know, I’m trying to figure out a scenario here as I’m talking that makes sense for Cincy on why you would trade him. I would I would say maybe the only realistic possibility is if Cincinnati internally is just like, you know what, we’re just done with the guy. we’re we’re done with the cryptic stuff. We’re done with the cryptic press conferences, you know? I mean, look at Green Bay with Rogers, like how that uh fallout happened, you know? They’re they’re just sick and tired of it. They’re just done with it. Okay, you’re just going to be someone else’s problem. Yeah, you can still spin it. Yeah, you can still go out there and win games, but it’s just not worth the headache. So, we’re done. We’re moving on. But then in turn, the Bengals would maybe have to do a lot of scouting and potentially fall in love with a Fernando Mendoza up at the top of the draft, right? So now you can take all these picks and shoot up to the top and you’re dropping Mendoza into a team with uh Chase and Higgins and Fant and Gaseiki and all these guys. Uh Chase Brown at running back. You know, maybe that, you know, if you’re a Bengal fan, you could just be like, you know what, we’re going to be clearing a ton of money in the process. you know, whoever Dante Moore, whoever it could potentially be within the top three, like you know, that guy’s going to like ride and die for um, you know, for the squad and we don’t have to pay him all that much compared to Burrow. And if he keep continues to flirt with him being uncertain about his future, let’s just move on. I mean, I guess you can maybe spin it that way. Dante Moore is from Ohio, too, from Cleveland. So, yeah, we’ll see. Yeah, I I just don’t see it um likely that that Joe Burrow gets moved. And even if he even if he does, I don’t know if it’s the best move for the Jets. And I know, look, I know it sounds crazy, right? Because you know, who are we who the Jets are just starving for a quarterback and Burrow is a top three, top four guy. Um, but just with the amount of resources that we would have to give up and G and given the current state of everything, again, one my one of the biggest fears here is that in two years Joe Burrow would be unhappy with the Jets, a situation that is not anywhere close to what Cincinnati has from just an offensive talent standpoint. And of course, we would be behind the eightball in regards to resources to go now build up the team, right? We don’t have the picks to go trade and land another star. We don’t have, you know, the the first round picks to go draft that stud wide receiver to give Garrett Wilson a solid compliment to, you know, find someone with as as much volume that Breeze Hall has provided the offense, you know, adding more edge rushers, you know. So, I just don’t I I think in the event that Burrow were to get traded, he want to maybe go to a team that’s built up a little bit more. And then from Cincinnati standpoint, they would ideally want to move him to a team in the NFC where they don’t have to play him or, you know, on paper if both teams make the playoffs. They don’t want to play him every year in the playoffs. Uh so, you know, you’re now looking towards NFC teams, Cardinals perhaps, Vikings perhaps. [sighs] It’s it’s yeah I I just think there’s a lot of maybe Stafford retires but I don’t it’s just a lot of hypotheticals right now. Now look if that first domino falls which is Joe Burrow request a trade okay now it becomes a little bit more real but until that point it’s just feels like fan kind of speculation. So anyway let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Thank you guys so much for watching. I appreciate it. And as always, go Jets. [music]

Thoughts On The Joe Burrow Trade Idea for The New York Jets

  1. It was fun to fantacize about for a while there. It's crazy to me that this started as wishful thinking with a sliver of logic and then he's answering questions about it at the podium. Crazier still is the logic of him leaving the 'Nati – they can't support him with a well-rounded roster – is the same logic that makes the Jets a worse option.

  2. People actually think he will leave Cincy to come to a worse team in the Jets😂. Obviously not. Let's just get Mendoza Moore or Mensah and build the rest of the roster through the draft/F.A.

  3. but if he comes to the jets, and we already know the idea that maybe he can do an andrew luck and retire because things in Cincinnati are awful, after we trade for him and things go wrong, what if he just retires? joe is one of the best qbs, but its waaaay too risky in my opinion, we would lose draft picks like crazy

  4. Joe Burrow is giving that Andrew Luck vibes where hes done with football. He said hes not having fun anymore so why chance bringing him here give up capital to have him retire a few games in. Better off with a rookie and a stop gap Qb

  5. The situation with Burrows is theater, it is Burrows telling the Cincy management that they need to fix the offensive line and defense. Burrows would be more likely to threaten to retire like Luck to get what he wants. If he really wants out there are other teams he likely would go to. If Philly for example is serious about moving on from Hurts, they might happen. Or if Dallas decided Dak wasn't it ( hypothetically), he might jump. Note I don't think anything like this is likely, but the Jets would not be a first choice.

And I agree, Cincy won't trade him, you don't throw away a top 3 QB, the fans would go nuts and who would replace him? Cincy knows how hard that is, and they had much better QB history than the jets have, Palmer and Dalton were light years better than the jets have had the last 20 years.

And would burrows trust Glenn who went 3 and 11 with an offense that is a work in progress and a OC who hasn't proved anything.

  6. Any Jet fan pulling for this is delusional. Burrow wants out of a depressing situation. He's not willingly joining the team with the largest playoff drought in American sports. Yeah we have a lot to rebuild with but not if we are trading 3 firsts for Burrow.

  7. Why would joe burrow go from the bengals to a even worse organization in the jets plus you would have to give up multiple first round picks you would be better off using those first round picks to upgrade the roster

  8. Even if he wanted out, I don’t think we should do it.

He’d go from a bad team to a worse team with no draft capital since we’d have to give up all these picks.

  9. They have 5 first round picks…… they can give up 3 if they really wanted to go this route. You can still build a team with your remaining picks and cap space

  10. Please no Burrow. We just did that with Rodgers and he wasn’t clinically depressed. He WILL be injured on the Jets. Been a jets fan since ‘67 and often injured players dont come here and get healthy,

  11. I don’t want to be that guy but why would he want to come here? The most cursed franchise in sports? There’s so many other teams that could throw a trade haul for him and he would be better off there

  12. Normally, I like your videos but this may be the DUMBEST video you've ever posted when you ask why he would want out of Cincinnati. First off, do your research on Cincinnati and the name Carson Palmer because this ENTIRE scenario is Carson Palmer version 2. Second, look up the name Andrew Luck. He retired from the NFL in his prime because he grew tired of piss poor offensive lines and getting beat up every week. Third, do you know which qb has eaten more sacks and hits than Andrew Luck, in the same time span? Joe Burrow. Fourth. The worst defense in the NFL, by far, has been the Bengals. Fifth, one of the strengths the Jets DO have is their offensive line. They're top 5 in time given to the qb to throw. The big issue was the dumbass they had playing qb. Talent level? Burrow would be trading Chase, Higgins and Chase Brown for Garrett Wilson, AD Mitchell, Breece Hall and Mason Taylor with a better offensive line.

  13. I rather have a rookie QB on that contract for 5 years and try to build around them instead of an already expensive oft injured QB who will be like 7-8 years older than a rookie. You have a better chance at winning for a decade with a rookie than with Burrow.

  14. Lol, as much fun as it is to dream, Burrow wants to go to a team that 1. Is ready to win now, and 2. Which is the bug one, HAS AN OLINE THAT WONT GET HIM KILLED.
Vikings, Seahawks and Colts come to mind.

  15. I know its literally impossible for Joe Burrow to be a Jet unless he says publicly i want to be a Jet. But let me believe JC! Ive loved Burrow since his heisman campaign. Just let me dream this impossible scenario 😆

  16. 1. He's going to have to want to come to NY.
    2. He's also had a ton of injuries
    3. He is not as young as you think, he is 29.
    4. It would be a ton of picks to give up.
    5. Do the Bengals even want to trade him?

I just don't see how its going to happen
