He Wore a Cubs Jersey? (The Trade That Changed Baseball)
1962, the polo grounds. The old stadium is on its last legs, playing host to a brand new team called the Mets. But look at the visitor in the outfield. That’s Lou Brock. And yes, he is wearing a Chicago Cubs uniform. To the Chicago front office, he was just a raw talent, [music] fast, but unpolished. They didn’t see a Hall of Famer yet. So 2 [music] years after this photo was taken, they made a phone call. They traded him to St. Louis for a pitcher named Ernie Brolio. It became the most lopsided heist in baseball [music] history. The Cubs got seven wins from Brolio. The Cardinals, [music] they got 2700 hits and nearly 900 stolen bases. [music] In this photo, he’s just a kid standing on dying grass, but he was already [music] warming up to steal history.
Before he became the King of the Stolen Base in St. Louis, Lou Brock was just a young outfielder for the Cubs trying to find his swing. The Cubs gave up on him in 1964—and the Cardinals got a Hall of Famer in return. #LouBrock #MLBHistory #Cubs #short

Lou was one of only 3 batters to HR 500 feet into the Polo Grounds centerfield bleachers.
