The Cleveland Guardians move on from Jhonkensy Noel right before Christmas.
Zack Jackson’s going to join us later in the show. We’ll talk with him and do fence riders with him. >> We got to pour some out. A little >> What? You pouring a little bit out of >> John Kinsey. Noel. >> Oh, poor little. >> Well, he’s not dead, but he’s >> sad day. Got DFA. >> This is for my homies. This is for my homies. >> Christmas. >> Yeah, they did him wrong. They could have waited till after Christmas. >> Well, you [laughter] know what’s funny? THEY GOT HIM WRONG. THEY GOT HIM WRONG. They got him as disrespectful. >> I got him on the third day of Hanukkah. [laughter] >> Here’s the That was the fourth day. Fourth night. >> I thought it was going to be crazy. I thought I had >> Here’s the deal. Here’s what’s even funnier. So, usually, so what happens is when a player is designated for assignment, I’ve probably explained this before, but there’s a lot of fans that don’t know what it means. So, I’ll explain it briefly. When you get designated for assignment, it gives you a week to to do one of to do one of two things. Okay? >> You can trade the player >> or put him on waivers. All right? Then if you don’t trade him and he goes on waivers, one or one of three things can happen then. Either he’s claimed by somebody on waivers and they pick him up. >> He is not claimed by somebody on waivers. Mhm. >> In that case, the Guardians can assign him to the minors and he’d still be part of the organization, but he would have the right to refuse that assignment and could just go on the free agent market if he wanted, >> but that won’t happen for a week. So, in theory, he could officially be waved on Christmas Day. >> Does he get That’s wild. Does he get the same amount of bread? >> Respectful. >> Like, say they wave him and you know what I’m saying? He come back. doesn’t I he does not have a set contract yet, but he’s in the stage of his career where he’s making like minimum salary or maybe like you know 10 to 50,000 above that. >> So what’s the minimum? >> I want to say it’s 750 something like that. Mike, do you know I mean do you have it? Can you find it real quick? >> The vet minimum of MLB. >> I think in baseball it’s it’s 7 something I think. I mean, I’m not going to say 750,000 is is poor, but boy, >> 750 >> 750 like in today’s climate >> 760. >> 760. So, he got a regular life. >> So, my guess is a regular life. >> You got regular life, bro. >> So, he’s probably not at most he’s making like 800 at most, which is probably not even that. >> That’s a good That’s a good >> Oh, that’s a great living for for 99% of people. Oh, I mean G over here shaking his head like it ain’t I I mean he ain’t Listen, he >> he ain’t hurting. >> He not hurting, but he can’t make no mistakes. [laughter] >> You better not go to jail. >> You might can make one. >> You better You better not get into jail. You better not have no taxes. You can’t have a baby mom or extra. You can’t you can’t have a gambling addict or addiction or drinking. >> He’s from the Dominican Republic, I think, isn’t he? >> He shouldn’t be gambling nothing with the guard. >> Can you look up what what country he’s from? He’s going to tell John. >> I think John Kenz is from the Dominican Republic. I believe. >> Yeah. Dr. >> Okay. And you know, obviously, especially in the DR, that money is going to go a long way. >> Yeah. You know, >> if he lives there, which I assume he does, >> I would imagine. Yeah. >> Uh but anyway, you know, some he’ll end up somewhere. But I my my guess is somebody will pick will take him on waiverss or like a trade for cash or something. In fact, the reason he got the FA, >> he gonna go to the Yankees. >> Nah, I doubt it. I I a team like the Rockies or the White Socks makes sense. That has >> Paul D Podesta. >> Yes. >> Head of the Paul. Serious question. Um >> this is a I was thinking about it. I don’t know why I was thinking about it. We got we had a conversation on uh before we did overtime yesterday about the Guardians. Yeah. >> And I was thinking about how many guys um the Guardians have that played a little bit like you know they they brought up Delaware and they they had a lot of their young guys that was coming up there. Yeah. Um, in terms of those young power hitters, how many of those guys do you think that they’ll continue to rotate in or do you think they’ll go a veteran route out of spring training and have, you know, some of the guys because it doesn’t mean >> Do I think they’re going to be in the big leagues to start the season, the guys who just came up at the end of the year? >> End of the year. >> I unless they’re absolutely terrible in spring training, I would think that Delau, Valera, and Kay will all be on the big league roster to start the season. minimum two out of three, but probably all three because a I think they’re all they’re clearly all ready to play in the big leagues in my opinion. And B, I don’t think unfortunately they’re going to spend a significant amount if any money to improve the offense. >> How did Bazana finish the season? >> He was hurt at the end of the year. I Yeah, I think he’ll be up by June. I think he’ll be in the big leagues by June. But here’s the thing. The reason they had to DF, they didn’t have to DFA John Kenzie. The reason they did is because they had just acquired a player who had been DFA by another team by the name of Justin Brewhill as I think he’s pronounced his name. I think he’s a lefty reliever. The Guardians have actually acquired three relief pitchers in the last couple of weeks. All are promising. They’ve so they’ve strengthened the the biggest strength on their team. Obviously, they need a lineup. So, I’m listening to NLB radio this morning, uh, which I listened to the show Power Alley with my my my buddy Mike Farren. I say my buddy. I don’t we we haven’t actually met in person, but but we text and he he’s a really nice guy. And >> if you texted somebody, that’s your buddy. >> Yeah, he’s my buddy. Him and uh >> and Dan and Dave uh Jim Dukat, not Dan Duk. >> I thought you would say Dan Dage. >> No, not Dan Dage. [laughter] He’s not my buddy. Uh Jim Duket. And I listen to their show every morning when I come in. It’s called Power Alley on MLB radio. And they teased that they were going to talk about John Kenzie, right? So I’m like, “All right, I’m going stick around for this.” So, they’re talking about John Kenzie and then they they they went moved on to to get into, you know, the the uh they were talking about the relievers they’ve added and all of a sudden Mike Farren goes, “I bet you my buddy Adam the Bull, great great sports sports talker in Cleveland. I appreciate that, Mike, the compliment, is listening right now, getting getting angry that we’re not talking about adding hitters.” And I immediately texted him and said, “I am listening and I’m pissed.” And then they start going through a list of hitters that maybe the Guardians could sign. And it was one crappy name after the next. Uh they did mention Harrison Bader, who’s fine. I wouldn’t be opposed to the Guardians signing him because at least he’s a legit center fielder and the Guardians don’t really have a legit center fielder and he’s good against lefties. So you could he could be another like platoon guy. But >> do you think all the Cleveland sports front offices are know what the definition of insanity is? >> No. cuz they definitely do it. Then it’s kind of crazy. >> Again, I I don’t want to lump as >> they are. It’s insane with >> You can’t lump the Browns in with the other two teams. DOES THE BROWNS >> YES, YOU CAN. >> NO, the Browns are way worse than the other two. >> Okay. Right. Yeah. Right. I mean, yes, but there’s been stillity levels of success on a somewhat consistent basis from the Cavs and the Guardians where there has not been >> the Cavs have practices the Browns, the Guardians and Cavs have practiced insanity for the past three years. >> Tyus, you was you weren’t here yesterday, right? Was you? No, you weren’t here. Uh Mikey, I think for overtime, I think he had left. >> Yeah. We started talking about at the end of the show, we started talking about >> the the Indians payroll >> in 1997. >> Listen to this. This is wild. >> In 1997, producers didn’t see this in overtime. The Indians had the third highest payroll in baseball. Third, they they they were paying Albert Bell 10 million that year. He was the highest paid player in baseball. The the Indians had a higher payroll than the Phillies, than the Dodgers, than the Cubs, than the Mets. and and >> only the Yankees and I believe the Orioles had a higher payroll than the Indians in 2000 in 97. >> And remember you said they it was like what 50 55 million that the payroll was >> right. But by 2001 the Indians payroll was 95 million and it was still like the fifth highest. I think the Yankees were the most at like 112. So it was very competitive. >> Their payroll is half of what it was in 2001 at the moment. >> So how much how much is the payroll now? 55 60 million. >> So you’re telling me in 1996 the payroll is identical to the payroll 20 how many years? >> 30 years later. >> It’s 30 years later. >> That’s crazy. >> And it’s it’s 40 million less than it was in 2001. As of now, they’ll probably spend a little bit of money. I shouldn’t say that. It’s crazy. >> It’s insanity. >> I mean, do you know what’s >> That’s not the front office’s fault, though. That’s the owner’s fault. >> Whoever. >> And when did Dolan take over? I can’t remember the exact year, but it was after that. >> Okay.
The Guardians designated Jhonkensy Noel, known as Big Christmas, for assignment on Wednesday — eight days before Christmas — as they acquired lefty Justin Bruihl from the Blue Jays for cash. | https://www.cleveland.com/guardians/2025/12/guardians-cut-ties-with-big-christmas-acquire-left-hander-from-blue-jays-for-cash.html

Guardians got to be the worst franchise in baseball first they don't sign Lane Thomas no they let Big Christmas go into free agency this AA team is a freaking joke that doesn't want to pay absolutely nobody why don't the Damn Colons sell the team to someone who's willing to spend money on their players to win a championship we don't have all are lives to be waiting around to see change.💯😎🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
David Blitzer takes over team ownership 2028,….25% owner now…..Its not how much you spend…its how you spend it…Cavaliers full of highly paid fat cats and in the choking 2nd apron……Browns have one of highest payrolls on NFL……When Dorsey got fired almost 100 Mil under cap…..When it comes to smart money spent in sports Dolans near top…what they do spend brought last 2 central division champs….
This won't come back to burn us. Doubt he makes it really. Major hole in that swing.
Please say goodbye to Nolan Jones also. Give his job to Valera.
The Indians were able to have that high of a payroll in the 90s due to revenue being generated mostly from luxury suites and ticket sales. After that switched to TV contracts based on population in the early 2000s, that was impossible. That needs addressed during the lockout next season or else the disparity will continue.
I've been saying this for over a decade. The guardian's goal isn't to win a world series. The guardian's goal is to make you believe that they actually have a chance to win a world series to get people to go to support them. If you keep the team relevant, and the team consistently shows you that they know how to scout and drive good prospects. They compete, but they're never good enough, but the fans still show up. Up. From a business standpoint they are winning. It's a shame that the fans don't see through this BS.
3:37 did someone fart? 🤣
… and the search continues for a starting outfielder who can hit 20 home runs… like every over team has
