The most active seller in the trade market, the St. Louis Cardinals, continue to discuss a wide range of players, including infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan, outfielder Lars Nootbaar, first baseman Willson Contreras, third baseman Nolan Arenado and lefty reliever Jo Jo Romero.

As reported previously by The Athletic, the Seattle Mariners are a favorite for Donovan and the Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams interested in Nootbaar.

Arenado, meanwhile, is a possibility for the Los Angeles Angels, who are negotiating a buyout agreement with third baseman Anthony Rendon. No trade is imminent, however. The market for Arenado will become better defined after Bregman and Eugenio Suárez sign their free-agent deals.

Arenado, who turns 35 in April, is under contract for two more years. His former team, the Colorado Rockies, is paying $5 million of his $27 million salary in 2026, which includes $6 million deferred. He also is owed $15 million in 2027.

Great walk rate, low K rate, hits the ball hard when he makes contact, but not necessarily a great offensive guy. Would make a ton of sense at the bottom of the lineup before Shohei.

  1. That would be awesome, I grew up in the same town as Nootbar would be great to see him play in LA

  2. Better since he usually plays RF/CF and has strong arm

He can force move Teo back in LF unlike Donovan

  3. Don’t understand the Nootbar trade whatsoever. Metrics are average, he’s regressed the last 2 seasons and he’d be a platoon player at best. If that’s the case let’s just promote one of ours up or look for a better long term option. No reason to repeat the Conforto experience.

  4. Would be a nice reunion for tommy, roki, yoshi, and sho if we bring in nootbaar (tommy was teammates with noot back in st louis)

  5. My dad (now deceased) was Lars Nootbaar’s DAD’s little league coach, so on a purely personal level I want this!

  6. Seems like he’ll be a $5M placeholder until one of the youngins are ready for 2027.

  7. i don’t know much about Lars Nootbar but I think a positive about him is that despite his rather below average to average BA and power numbers, his OBP is atleast 100 points higher which bodes really well.

  8. Nootbar to the dodgers has always been one of those things that seemed inevitable to me. He’s a local boy, still makes his home here, is pals with a lot of the guys – I’m in favor.

  9. Biggest issue with Nootbar is health. Underlying metrics are fine. Hits the ball hard but can’t stay on the field.

He’s another Edman type but plays one position.

If he costs nothing, I wouldn’t mind it because he’s a lefty bat this team needs badly.

  10. Nootbaar showed Yamamoto around LA when he was deciding where to sign. If we get we can call him Assistant Le GM Le Nootbaar.
