It’s okay. Stearns plans to make a big trade that we’ll also be incredibly pissed off at.
We are a disgusting organization
He was my number 1 get for the Mets so this stinks.
Somewhat related though is that I would expect some padre trades now they have too much money on the books
We really couldn’t beat that?
This is a really shocking signing for me, that seems super low. Are teams that scared of the injuries?
All of the reports were that he wanted to go home to New England/Northeast. Weird.
I wonder if it impacts Pivetta’s rumored trade availability. It doesn’t make sense to me that a team looking to contend would trade Pivetta, but the Padres are a different beast.
Even with the injury concerns, would’ve loved King on that deal.
Why couldn’t we do the 3 years? This was the one top starter up Stearns’ ally
RIP to every nerd saying “I would much rather have king for 3 years than Valdez for 7 years” (it’s me I’m nerds)
This deal makes little sense for any team that is not the Padres
If the Mets sign him you’re giving up 2 draft picks and $1mil in international money for him to leave after one year
Or he struggles and it’s backloaded as hell
He probably want to stay in San diego if it was for only 3 years with options. A lot of these guys have families and just hard on the kids to keep moving around every few years.
But surprised the mets couldn’t match/beat that. Maybe Stearns like the depth we have.
Stearns really said during the post-season conference that it’d be foolish to count on Senga for 30+ starts and now it looks likes that’s exactly what he’s about to do for next year.
Mets weren’t giving the qualifying offer to have a player for potentially only 1 season before they opt out. I wanted King but I get why this deal wouldn’t appeal to the Mets.
Fook
Interesting.
I thought San Diego would look to dump salary before this signing. Now I definitely feel that way after this signing.
Don’t worry, Stearns has a plan
prove it deal
wtf why aren’t we signing every good free agent on the market
The price of the Pivetta going up
Interpretation: King wants to go back out to market next year without the QO attached, but gets the cushion of 2 extra shots at it if he has a rough year. Basically what happened with Pete last year, but King got two option years instead of one. >90% shot King opts out and is back on the market for 2027.
I will never figure out what the Padres are planning
It’s going to be fucking hilarious if we send the same pitching staff from 2025 out next year.
Sure, having McLean will help a ton, same with Sproat to a lesser extent. I want Tong to get more seasoning in AAA. Risky stuff though, hope we get something done.
I thought they were set on cutting salary?? Either way, I’m still waiting for this team to address the true issue why they failed this year, the starting pitching.
Three years? Isn’t that exactly the type of deal that the Mets are trying to give out right now? Isn’t King someone they were decidedly in on?
I really hope no one goes to the games next year, team doesn’t deserve to turn a profit finishing last
Damn, that was the pitcher I wanted us to get.
The options are getting thinner by the day as Stearns “waits out the market”
It’s basically a one year deal so he can be a fa without the QO next year. If the Mets had signed him to this deal I’d make zero sense. Giving up a draft pick for what will probably be a single year of contract would be insane.
Qualifying offer attached, which means losing a draft pick. Pitching will come via trades, and bats will come via spending.
#EVERYONE RELAX…
The Mets will sign a bunch of middle of the road talent and call it a win.
Meanwhile, it’s a soft punt. Such a joke.
Wanted King, but Padres were the one team that could really offer him a player option. No team was taking that penalty for 1 year of King. If King stays healthy, he’ll be back on the market next year.
