LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The WNBA players’ union has voted to authorize a strike amid ongoing talks with the league on a new labor agreement.

The WNBPA announced Thursday that 93% of members cast a vote on strike authorization, and of those ballots, 98% voted in favor.

“Let it be known. The players remain united, resolute, and prepared to fight for their value and their future,” the WNBPA wrote in a post to Instagram.

The authorization does not necessarily mean players will go on strike, but it sends a signal about their commitment to getting a greater share of the league’s revenue.

The players’ collective bargaining agreement with the WNBA was scheduled to expire this year, but both sides have agreed to extensions that keep it running through Jan. 9. If no deal is reached by then, the league could institute a lockout, putting the 2026 season in jeopardy.

Last month, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson said the players were prepared to stand firm.

“All of us are going to be at the table,” Wilson told TIME, “and we’re not moving until we get exactly what we want.”
