Things Just Took A SHOCKING Turn…

Things just took a shocking turn for the Dallas Mavericks. But tis the season, the season of trades as we are currently in the trade season and anything could happen any day now. Whether it’s a big trade regarding a superstar or absolutely nothing and teams just hang tight until the off seasonason. And the Dallas Mavericks are one team that is constantly in the media about a trade, a team, somebody’s interested in Anthony Davis. And in yesterday’s video, we went over how the Miami Heat would have increased interest in Anthony Davis if they couldn’t get Giannis onto the Kmpo. But it wasn’t necessarily what do we want from Miami, but what could Miami possibly offer the Dallas Mavericks. But another team that also has increased interest that’s actually making several calls are the Toronto Raptors, which is very interesting as they are the third seed in the East and might be looking to make a massive trade to get themselves over the hump. So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at all the reports surrounding the Toronto Raptors, Anthony Davis, and as well, what could they possibly offer us to make the trade work. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, as always, we got a goal before Christmas. I’d love to hit 24,000 subs. We’re currently at 23,815 subs. But if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related, from the trade rumors, the the injury reports, the live streams, and the watchalongs, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out on a single thing that we do. But the Dallas Mavericks are just always in the news. Whether someone’s getting traded, whether someone’s getting hurt, there will be news about the Dallas Mavericks. But like I said, is the season of trades. And of course, Anthony Davis name has been floating around. There are several other names that have also been popping up lately, like Klay Thompson, like Daniel Gaffford, and D’Angelo Russell. But the most interesting thing about all these rumors is Anthony Davis’s $54 million salary and the fact that that the Dallas Mavericks have 15 players on their roster. It wouldn’t really be that easy to make a trade with any team with this current CBA. And the way that these salary caps work, the salaries have to match. So you may not necessarily get the package you want, but these are the package that would work. But if we take a look at a report that came out just the other day, the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors are expected to be suitors for Anthony Davis. and that was Per Shams. There’s been a lot of smoke about the Detroit Pistons, a little bit about the Hawks. I know that they have a very favorable pick from New Orleans that a lot of Mavericks fans would love to get. And obviously, they have a couple young players in expiring contracts as that would potentially be the basis of any Anthony Davis trade. That’s really what you have to get, a young player, expiring contracts, and whatever picks you can absolutely get. And like the in like yesterday’s video, we talked about Miami. You’d probably get Kell Wear, maybe you get Norman Pal, maybe get Tyler Herro, but you would also get expiring contracts. So, expect that with any team if we make trades. But before I continue, the Dallas Mavericks have made it very, very clear. They want to be competitive. They’re not looking to make trades unless a package is brought to them that they can’t say no to. But we did get another report just yesterday really showing just how true these reports are as I’m all over the place here. As we did find out that the Toronto Raptors have definitely registered interest in Anthony Davis per Mark Stein. The Hawks have exploratory interest. Stein adds he thinks Detroit’s interest has been vastly overstated and we have actually followed the Detroit Pistons that you know they really want Anthony Davis. We followed that on this channel very heavily and at this point it doesn’t make sense for them. It doesn’t seem like they’re interested at all which is totally fine. That doesn’t mean there’s not a trademark for Anthony Davis. But the Toronto Raptors are a team that seems to be making some calls, checking in. The other day we got a report that they were checking in on Gaffford and now they’re checking on AD, but it seems to be a little bit more than other teams. But then again, it is the Toronto Raptor. What could they possibly offer? Now, before I show you this report, this is not a verified report. This could be nothing, but it is a rumor that is floating around that a lot of people are starting to look at as possibly the truth. If we take a look at this tweet, a report, sources tell me a trade agreement has been reached between the Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks. However, the deal cannot be officially executed until January 7th when Yaka Purtole becomes trade eligible. Now, this came from a random Twitter page. No sources cited. Do not believe this at all. And I’m not showing you this cuz I think it’s true. I’m showing you this cuz I do not believe this report. However, we do know that the Toronto Raptors are interested in Anthony Davis. So, if a trade were to occur, then Yaka Pearl would most likely be at the center of that trade. Maybe a RJ Barrett. Like I said, Anthony Davis is making about $54 million a year. That’s a hefty salary. A lot of these teams just don’t have the assets that can match that salary with without going over the aprons or you’re without the 12 players needed for a full roster. And the Dallas Mavericks have 15 players on their roster. We are also about a million to$2 million below the second apron. So, salaries have to match even more. And when you look at the Toronto Raptors, they’re also in a very weird salary structure as you have Yaka Purle making about $16 million a year and the next person below him is making $6 million. It’s a $10 million gap. Not a lot of salary that you can mess around with mix and match to try to make it make sense. But if we do want to take a look into our little trade machine of possible trades, let’s see what it would actually look like. Pause if you want to take a look at it. I tried to blow it up. It wouldn’t really work. But a trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors where we send Anthony Davis, we would get back RJ Barrett, Yaka Purle, and Oce Abaji. I mispronounced his name. I’m so sorry. And the only reason why this doesn’t work is because the Toronto Raptors wouldn’t have enough players. No matter how you mess around, I’ll try to flip it over here. No matter how you mess it around, try to move players around, the salaries would only work with this type of trade. But unfortunately, with that amount of players, it would not work for the Mavericks. You would have to include a third team. And at that point, the trade is just getting very, very messy. It’s getting just very obscure to the point where you may as well just keep Anthony Davis. But that is another part of the video that I want to talk about. Just because teams are interested doesn’t mean a trade is going to go through. Just because teams want Anthony Davis does not mean they can have Anthony Davis. I would argue that some teams are have are preparing packages for certain players like the Miami Heat and Giannis or the Toronto Raptors and Anthony Davis. But we do know that the Dallas Mavericks don’t really want to make trades. They want to stay competitive. They want to see how things look like with Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Cooper Flag, which is probably what’s going to happen. We’re going to see how that looks like. We’re going to go through the trade deadline, maybe make a few small trades, if any at all. And if there’s any big moves necessary, you wait until the off season. Salaries will expire, salary caps open up, trades become a lot easier over the summer, but versus the regular season between now and the trade deadline. But if there were to be a trade between the Raptors and the Dallas Mavericks, I would have to say that I truly do believe that RJ Barrett would be a key part of that trade for the season. RJ Barrett is averaging 19 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists. He has a 60.8% true shooting percentage while shooting 50% from the floor, 35% from three, and 72% from the free throw line, averaging eight steals, and two blocks.2 blocks per game. When it comes to a player like RJ Barrett, maybe nothing special to you guys. you may not think that he’s really worth Anthony Davis. And I’d agree. I think the package that players or sorry, the package that fans want for Anthony Davis just don’t really exist. So, you’d have to accept subpar, not subpar, but substar levels like like an RJ Barrett, but that’s another scoring punch. That’s another player that can help us on the offensive end. The absolute worst part of this Dallas Mavericks team is their offense. So, you get a player like RJ Barrett who is a scorer. You get a couple other players. Maybe you do get Yaka Purle, that’s another big man. Maybe you could get Grady Dick. I know a lot of fans would love Grady Dick on this team. Him and Ryan Nimhard would be a crazy backcourt and I’m all for it. But the Dallas Mavericks, they have a decision to make and we’ve talked about it on this channel whether we want to go through a rebuild, whether we want to go through a retool. I don’t believe in tanking, but the Dallas Mavericks, they’ve they’ve got some decisions to make. Whether you stay Pat or you go and make trades, you got to do what’s right for the team. But I don’t think you have to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. But let me know in the comments section down below. If you were to make a trade with the Raptors, who would you want? What would that package look like? Even if they’re interested in Anthony Davis, I just don’t think they have anything realistic that could actually work. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thank you for watching the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.

Marcel Martin breaks down the report that the Toronto Raptors are emerging as a serious suitor for Anthony Davis, examining why Toronto may be willing to make a bold move for the All-NBA big man. He analyzes how Davis could fit into the Raptors’ long-term vision and what kind of package they might be able to offer Dallas. Marcel also discusses what this interest means for the Mavericks’ leverage in trade talks — and whether moving Davis could reshape the franchise’s future.

  1. Keep AD, and sit him along with Kyrie for the season. Use the season to develop Flagg and Christie, Go into the lottery with your fingers crossed. Then to start 2026-27 you've got a healthy Kyrie and a halfway healthy AD along with what ever you got in the draft. Add that to PJ and Gafford, and you've got something to believe in.

  2. In my mind Mavs have many options right now. They have to decide if they want to be competitive or tank. I would only trade AD if we decide to tank because without Lively and Gafford not playing well, we won't be able to be competitive unless we get a really good center back in the trade. Like I said I would be interested in Mavs acquiring Kel'el Ware because he seems like a very promising young big. But I still favor waiting til the summer to trade AD, try to be competitive enough to make AD, Klay, and everyone look good enough that their trade value is increased as much as possible.

  3. keep AD!!!!!!!!!!!! be nearly as stupid as trading doncic so it could happen. there are dumber teams in the NBA. so did a team hire Nico?? just hope AD stays healthy!

  4. If they add their 2026 pick and another decent pick, would anybody do that trade?? They’re 3rd right now in the east but they can possibly start sucking and end up in the play in…

  5. Hearing that this years draft will be very strong even heard that if Flagg was in this one he might not even be a top 5 pick?? Hard to believe that. But Mavs should certainly look at the value of AD, Irving, Klay, Martin & Lively. Certainly dont have to pull the trigger but to see their value and who we might be able to pickup would be wise. IMO get Irving back play hard to win every game and see where we are before the Jan 15th trade deadline then make the decision, Go for it this year all in. Or pull the trigger make some changes to upgrade, get younger get players that are more dependable and not so injury prone. Father time usually always Wins.

  6. If they trade AD already its just another rushed decision we possibly have a title contender on our hands and Kyrie is not that far away from full recovery.

It would make much more sense to first see Kyrie, AD, Cooper, Nembhard, PJ , Gafford etc play together then make decisions based on what is seen ö

  7. The more they Mavs play Powell, the more obvious it is they are playing for the pick and it's the right move. This is the easier part of the schedule they've played they got a lot of road games coming. They don't need a top 3 pick, but a top 8 pick in this deep class could be enough to skyrocket the franchise's future outlook.

  8. I really don’t want them to tank, need to see what AD Kyrie Flagg PJ and the rest of the crew can do after all the bs. Just load manage AD and we can still find quality picks in later parts of the draft to compliment Coop.

  9. I like your podcast but you do a lot of click baits. If you get a young player like Grady Dick, cap relief, and a 1st round pick in 2027 or 2028 then I would pull the trigger.

  10. Raptors only have one player for the MAVS, which is BARNES, and that trade won't happen. POELTL is a good back up center. BARRETT does not make sense, lot of BARRETT types already on the team.

  11. Not pounding the table if a player doesn't want to be here. My issue is AD besides his availability questions doesn't impose his will enough on the offensive end. He doesn't post up and back down like he should instead its been picknroll lobs and catch plays for runners. Some role player type of play. He needs to drive into the post and for the double to come off said elbow. I'm tired of this lack of aggression as that's his main issue really. Seen more aggression from Jaylen Brown, Karl Anthony, Brandon Ingram, and Derek Queen this season in taking over the offense.

  12. You do a third team cause you flip Poeltl and Barrett for protected firsts and expiring. Trade gaff for another protected first and exp and no Powell is your starting center. So then a top 5 pick is also a part of the trade. Yeah dick also should be apart of it as a potential player

  13. If the Mavs can get Kel’el Ware from Miami along with a draft pick I’m doing that instantly. I have a feeling Ware will be a star. Bro is really good.

  14. Why does Atlanta keep coming up? The player I keep hearing for the Atlanta trade is Porzingis 😂. Been there. Done that. I'd MUCH rather have AD than Porzingis. Porzingis has all the down sides of AD (some to an even worse degree), but almost none of the upsides of AD. Porzingis is a better 3-point shooter, but that's probably just cause he takes more of them and he still only makes maybe 1 to 2 per game in a good game for him.

  15. Uh. If you want the Raptors to take that salary and problem set you’re either going to have to take our problem contracts or give us picks. Say what you want about his skill set, that problem set, in this cap era, is a disaster.

  16. I can't stand the way the apron sit system is set up. I think this is destroying the league. Teams that draft well should be compensated teams that are willing to spend to keep a good team should be applauded. There seems that are always going to be cheap and not want to spend and they shouldn't be bringing down the league.

  17. We always check in, Toronto never thinks twice about shopping they do it every year, but It will most likely be Gafford since we are happy with Poeltl as our starter, we just need a back up Big, not a starting big.

  18. I am trying to support you and your channel, but if you keep waisting my time with click baits, I am unsubscribing. I am loyal to the Mavs and have been since we got our team since 1980, b4 you was thought of or born. Flat out it's really stupid to trade Anthony Davis, who are we gonna replace him with of equal value. If we wanna win keep him, we look better DEFENSIVELY than when Luka was here. It's not a conspiracy that Luka was traded, it was a inside deal to send Cooper Flag to the Mavs in fair exchange with Anthony Davis wanting out of LA & Lebron's bs. With LeBron on his way out the door LA which is bigger market, the NBA needed to make a move to replace LeBron whose been the face of the NBA since Kobe Bryant passed the torch
