Jared Bednar & Avs on Message In The Room & More Before Game vs Jets
I’ll go ahead and call on you guys again. Colleen, go ahead and start us off. >> Coach, it’s the first time you guys are facing the Jets this season. What are you kind of looking at going into this game? >> Yeah. Um, well, looking at the things that we need to do to have success number one, I think just that that’s our always our primary focus. And, you digging into the Jets is a real good team. Again, you know, like I every team’s going to go through their little bumps in the road and whatnot. and theirs came more than likely due to some injuries that they’ve had and now they’re getting healthy and playing pretty well. So, we know it’s a dangerous team. They’re highly committed to the way they play and should be a good contest here tonight. >> Bailey, then Megan, >> you mentioned some of those injuries. They do have hell of a back. How does that change the identity of the team when you get your star goender back? >> Means a lot. Yeah. And it because it just puts your team at ease, you know, like we talked about it the other day with our goalending and the confidence we have in them. You can gain you can gain a half step on offense if if you trust your goalies and your defenders, right? And um so and and it’s partly how their team’s built. He’s a big part of their team, right? And you can’t, you know, every team’s built a little bit differently. He’s a big part of it and helps him play to a certain identity that makes him real real hard to play against. >> Gave mentioned that in looking at the Seattle game, there was some good and some bad and maybe more bad than you guys have seen a lot of this season, but he also said we need a little bit of that in the regular season. How do you feel about that kind of diversity? >> Yep. I mean, I kind of touched on it the other day, but it’s I like the fact that we’re playing hungry teams that are going to challenge us every night. I think it’s good for our team. It’s good for us to go through those different scenarios through the course of a regular season. Certainly, I’d love the puck to drop and us just be playing our best hockey for a full 60 minutes every night would be great, but I don’t think that’s too realistic. So, I mean, we had a tough time with Seattle early in the game. Um, and that adversity kind of going through it teaches you how to work through it and still have success. And I like the way our guys handle it. That’s why I gave him a lot of credit the other night because we didn’t fragment and go too individual, you know, going through that game. It was team oriented. It was tightened down on our structure in all three zones. And got more hungry and more physical and so we should have learned something about ourselves there in that game that we can, you know, draw back on as the season goes on and learn from as we move forward here today. >> Eran Evans is uh Wed starting? >> He is. >> Okay. And then uh obviously good problem to have, but Barnacov hasn’t been able to play since you guys got pretty healthy up front. >> Has there been any consideration to try him on the wing, see what you have there, or is it just kind of a waiting game? >> Yeah, I mean, well, we we’ve talked about that if it if it comes time and place where we want to put him in that we might try him there. Um depending on who he’s going in for, but we like the lineup that we’re playing right now. So, we’re going to stay the same again tonight. >> It was optional, but Blackwood wasn’t out there. Is everything okay there? >> Yeah. Time for a couple last more. >> Good. Okay. All right. >> First time facing Winnipeg this season. What are you guys kind of looking at going into this game? >> Well, we expect it to be a hard fought game. Uh they’re hardworking team and welldetailed. Um >> yeah, with a lot of fire firepower up front. You know, we know they’re they’re top line with Shley, Connor, and I think it’s Valardi right now. and [snorts] scoring at a pretty high high pace. So, um tough task at hand there and then, you know, it’s a hardworking team all the way through. Deep lineup and you what was it last year they won the president’s trophy, >> right? So, um we know it’s going to be a tough matchup, but we’re looking forward to it. >> When a team like Winnipeg gets a goalender like Hell Buck back, I mean, how does that change the identity of a team going through that? >> Well, I mean, I’m sure for them it gives them a lot of confidence, right? and uh VZNA caliber goalender, no doubt about it. And obviously he’s gone through some injuries and probably trying to find his game, but doesn’t change much for us to be honest. Uh but I’m sure for them it gives them another, you know, that that the sense of confidence back, right? And and knowing that they they got a top goalie in the back. So, um but for us, it’ll be a tough matchup no matter who they got in that. >> Coach said you guys did a lot of video yesterday. What did you guys take from that Seattle game that you’re kind of looking to maybe clean up a little bit in this game? >> Yeah, some good, some bad, just like we do with every game, but um this one was probably a little bit more bad than than normal and we gave up quite a bit of scoring chances more so than we’d like. And just got some areas in diesel that we got to clean up, some areas in coming out of ozone um terms of sorting things out on our on our tracking and reloads, but um we also did a lot of good things. So, uh, for us as a group, you know, coming back home here, um, establish our game right away from the get- go. Be hard to play against. >> Even in a game like that in Seattle, it seems like you guys are finding your game every night. What is it about the message that’s that’s just resonating with this group right now? >> I mean, I think it’s just >> Yeah, coach is driving a, you know, a hard message obviously from from him and the coaching staff, but also internally. Yeah, I mean we got we’ve talked about it before, but we got high standards in here and we hold ourselves to that. Um, so in a game like that, obviously they get a late goal in the second period and, you know, be easy to start fragmenting and start playing on your own and start trying different things or whatever and you kind of get frustrated, but we just pulled together instead and and uh and dug in and got rewarded for it and end up coming out with two points. I think that’s just the way this group is built to be honest. uh resilient obviously winning when you’re winning it definitely solidifies the message right uh makes people believe and and people can start trusting each other trusting in the coaching staff and the system so I think that’s a big part of it as well but um overall this team’s hungry and we’ve talked about that before >> you’ve used that word resilient a lot this season uh your first third period comeback of the season as well is that just kind of the stamp on a word like that and what you guys are trying to accomplish may Maybe it’s not ideal to have those situations, but knowing that you can stay in it. >> Yeah, but I think you need those as well. Uh you need those during the course of a season. Um can’t just win hockey games when you get up one, get up two, get up three, right? You you got to find ways to win even though things aren’t going your way for two and a half periods or whatever the case may be. Um so yeah, proud of the way the guys responded and found a way to win. Um, and I think that’s going to be important remembering that moving forward and how not just the fact that you came back in third period and won it, but how did you do it? It was just kind of we dug in. We stuck to our systems just kind of started digging in a bit more in terms of compete level and details and tracking and reload things that we talk about all the time. So, um, yeah, it’ll be it’ll be important moving forward. >> Thanks. >> Thank you so much. >> Appreciate it. just this is your first time facing the Winnipeg Jets. Uh what are you guys kind of looking at going into this game? >> Uh yeah, obviously they have hell back which is u the back of the team and obviously gives them a chance to win every night and uh a lot of skill up front obviously led by uh Shley and Connor and then um some D that maybe are scoring a little bit higher than you’ve seen before. So um [snorts] pretty complete team and probably a better team than what uh maybe their record as of late has shown. So, um, we got to be ready to go. >> Coach, then you guys did a lot of video yesterday. What did you kind of take away from the Seattle game? >> Uh, we found a way to win, um, when it wasn’t our best and, um, timely power play goal, which was nice to kind of get that one and [snorts] hopefully that kind of sparks a better run here for us on that. Um, five on five, some areas we can clean up in terms of transition, letting guys in behind. And they had a few great a looks. Obviously, Blackie made some big saves. um couple things we can clean up to try and give ourselves a little bit better chance to to win um in terms of numbers and different things like that. So, um but a good I mean good job kind of sticking with it, find a way to get it back in the third. >> When you’re missing your star goalender like they were and you get Hella Buck back, I mean how much does that change the identity of a team? >> For sure. I mean, you kind of view him as I mean, obviously, goalender, [snorts] you know, most important job for sure and um [snorts] kind of comparable to if you’re a superstar up front, too. Same thing. So, I mean, he’s he’s obviously one of their leaders and um one of the best goals in the game. So, huge boost for them, I’m sure, kind of getting him back and um confidence knowing that they have a chance to win each and every night. >> Thank you so much. Appreciate you.

SMASH THAT LIKE DODKS!
Usual catchphrase. Barely slept due to pain so hoping for no OT but with how the Avs are playing vs how the Jets are playing

WE WANT 60!

Lets Go Avalanche!
Who is this guy that directs the questions? Seems like a bully who only allows certain questions. All softball. Not a single question about the power play. I think he likes the that we can't hear the questions. Songs like a Charlie Brown cartoon. Wha wha wha wha.
