Flames talk says he should be a top 9 winger do you agree

  1. He’s been fine at best this year. But the fourth line has been quite ineffective most of the year. Other than when Morton was called up.

  2. He’s made the jump at every level up to this point, time will tell. Top 6 idk, top 9 maybe.

  3. The problem is he has so much chemistry with Lombo that without him the 4th line isn’t very exciting

  4. I think he could be a (edit: *prime*) Lucic-alike kind of player. Heavy hitter, good at gaining possession and protecting the puck, and make for effective screens. Once he gets a bit better at skating speed (though he may have plateaued) and learns how to block the goalie but leave the lane open/gets better at deflections, he could be a 25+ goal guy IMO.

  5. No, he could probably play up in the lineup but he’s perfect for the fourth line and gives them some scoring chances. Keep him where he is.

  6. Hes the type of 4th line player who is great on the 4th usually, but can also contribute in the top 9 short term when you have an injury. He’s not a regular top 9 player on a contending team, he just doesn’t have the offensive skill for that.

  7. No. He has been placed on the top lines in the past and never did anything to keep him in those spots. He would be a great 3rd line winger but nothing more until he provides more.

  8. He absolutely could hang in a top 9, but the Flames are so bloated with wingers that keeping him up there is gonna cause problems with the veterans after a game or two.

  9. I would tend to agree with Klapka being a top 9 player. He has NHL speed and he is great at forechecking and getting the puck into good areas. He seems to have a good ability of picking up new assignments and skills. He wasn’t nearly this physical two or three years ago and now he is an imposing physical presence as he should be.

  10. I’m a big fan of klapka, he’s improved a bunch. But I do think he looks a lot better because everyone else is playing so bad lol.

  11. Top 9 in respects to him on the 3rd line? Sure. 1st or second? No.

Hes playing well in his role. Use him in limited capacity on 3W, but Id rather see him get PP time on a bottom barrel team to get him more shooting/scoring opportunites. He could be your 4th F on a PP and still help cover defensively. Gives him chances to use that hard shot.

  12. hes earned exactly where he is. He’s better than replacement level guys like Beecher, but still contributing like a 4th liner. He could earn more ice time by producing more.
