[Pirates] OFFICIAL: We have acquired 2B Brandon Lowe, LHP Mason Montgomery, and OF Jake Mangum from the Rays and have traded RHP Mike Burrows to the Astros as part of a three-team deal.

1. Lowe’s a really nice player. He can’t be the only bat the acquire. They still have only 2 position players with more than 2 projected war

2. Lowe was one of my favorites but we knew this was coming.

3. I don’t really get this trade for the Pirates. It’s cool to see them acquire good established players for once but Lowe is on the last year of his deal and realistically even if they make a few more acquisitions like this, they’re still probably at least another year out from contending for a WC spot.

   Montgomery and Mangum are solid players to get back as well but I guess if it was up to me, if I’m trading 6 years of Burrows I’d want the main piece back to be more than a rental.

5. Hah! I actually thought of Jake Mangum the other day driving through Durham because there’s a Mangum street outside the Bulls stadium.

   I was down a rabbit hole trying to think of players matching street names by a teams stadium

8. Lowe is seriously underrated. He’s a top 20 2b bat by wrc+ all time. Yea, that will drop as he ages, but he also did this as late breakout.

12. I am a noted Lowe enjoyer but good god his defense is so horrible for an up the middle guy, love his bat but there’s a reason he only had 1.9 WAR last year

13. Mangum is a solid player and would be an addition to every team. Every at bat against that guy is a pain.

17. Brandon Lowe was such a fun dude to have. I feel bad for Yandy that his friend is gone.

18. Brandon Lowe is going to be fine but not good for Pittsburgh. They could’ve used that salary money better. Jack Mangum is just something, and almost nothing. Mason Montgomery is a very fun pickup for Pittsburgh and I think he can be a neat development project for an org who have arguably been better than Tampa lately (ignore Skenes, the rest of the crew are really neat!)

    Mike Burrows for the Astros is… idk. Really almost nothing?

    Melton and Brito to the Rays is… almost assuredly nothing?

    Pittsburgh is the only party in this trade who’s done something cool and interesting IMO. The Astros have distant potential to do something neat with Burrows, but that’s quite a project.
