Big trade before freeze, Marchment heads to CBJ. #bluejackets #kraken #nhlshorts #nhltrade
Well guys, the Phil, the no deal was not the only trade we saw before the roster freeze kicked in a couple of hours ago. Just before the roster freeze cut off, there was another trade. No, it was not between the Wild and the Vegas Golden Knights. It was between the Seattle Kraken and the Columbus Blue Jackets. as the Seattle Kraken have officially moved off of Mason Marchman. As Mason Marchman goes to the Columbus Blue Jackets, Marchman is in the final year of his deal making a 4.5 million cap pick goes to Columbus in exchange for a 2027 second round pick which is Minnesota that they acquired in the David Uric deal and a 2026 fourth round that was originally the New York Rangers. So, if you break this deal all down, it’s a pretty solid deal for both sides or Jackets. They had picks to spare. This is a team who’s trying to go and make the playoffs after they almost made it last year. So, they’re looking to take a step forward. So, Marchman, he’s a really solid middle six forward. So far, this year hasn’t been great, having four goals and 13 points in 30 games with the Seattle Kraken. But last year, he had 58 60 points, I think, with the Dallas Stars. And in his past, he has been a really solid null six forward and someone who’s very hard to play against. So, this is a really solid pickup here. The Jackets have the cast to take the entire capit. So, it’s a forward edition for the Jackets. And a very smart move there from Columbus for the Kraken. They have really tanked off as of late, losing 10 of 11 games. So, if that tank off, there’s a very good chance they’ll start to sell off some of their UFAs. Marshall was the first to go. There was apparently a lot of interest happening in just the past little while, which is why a trade did come up before this roster freeze. It’s a very interesting deal there. They get second round pick, a fourth round pick. I think they’ll probably use those picks given how poorly they’re playing right now. Maybe they use in some sort of big deal to get some sort of younger forward, but still at least gives them some more draft capital and a guy who was probably going to walk as UFA is going to be moved off of. So, I think this is a really good deal for both sides. The Jackets get a solid middle six forward who can help them right now for their current playoff push and look and get a couple of draft picks that could really help them along the line. So, very interesting note there. That’s what I want to talk about in this video. Once again, I’ll touch on this probably in tomorrow’s trade rumor video or do a separate video about that.
