If the #TexasRangers skip Bichette, they better make it count: Suárez, Fairbanks, then pray.
Should the Rangers go all in on a bat like Bo Bashette? Of course they should. Because 26th in OBP and 26th in OPS in 2025, that’s not contender offense. But if you’ve been paying attention at all to how this front office moves, you can probably guess where the first big swing comes from. Spoiler alert, it’s on the mound. Top of the rotation, back of the bullpin. So where does that leave us? Two targets the Rangers are no doubt considering, Ranger Suarez and Pete Fairbanks. Ranger is not about radar gun nonsense. He’s 98 percentile hard hit allowed. That’s good luck squaring it up pitching. And here’s the funniest part. Bro throws like 90 and hitters still walk back like they just swung a pool noodle. Fairbanks is how you stop the 4-3 losses. Dude’s got a 97 mph heater and his 93rd percentile in barrel rate. Now the ninth inning doesn’t become a group project. Quick aside, you still need innings. Give me Chris Basset volume or bring back Tyler Mali if the price is right. Those moves will save our bullpen, but if the Bette first dream isn’t happening, the offense has to come from within. First, Wyatt Langford. We’ve all seen the 3030 ceiling. Now, go live there. Evan Carter is the other key. Become an everyday player and stay healthy. Then, you need real rebounds from two right-handed thump spots, Josh Young and Jake Burgerer. Then, you add the icing, a right-handed bat that punishes lefties. Texas had a 653 team OPS versus lefties last year. Fix that. Rob Rev. Snider 959 OPS versus lefties last year. And Miguel Andar 986 OPS versus lefties last year. That is a matchup weapon. And that’s the formula. Rangers Warz and Pete Fairbanks stop the bleeding. And NMO and the kids bring the punch. And the righty matchup bat is the cheat code versus lefties. If you want Boba, get him. I won’t complain. But if this is the lane we’re in, do it right. Add Rangers Huarez. Lock down the ninth with Pete Fairbanks and pray the internal bats handle the rest. Money isn’t the flex. Hitting the right bets is. God bless and go Rangers.
I want Bo Bichette. I’ve been consistent. But if Chris Young skips the big bat swing, then this offseason has to hit like a grown-up plan, not a consolation prize. Start with outs: Ranger Suárez at the top of the rotation and Pete Fairbanks to lock down the ninth. Then add innings so the bullpen is not cooked by May, think Chris Bassitt volume or a Tyler Mahle reunion. After that, it is on the internal bats to carry the offense: Wyatt Langford levels up into that 30/30 threat, Evan Carter becomes an everyday guy and stays healthy, and Josh Jung with Jake Burger rebound. Last step, fix the lefty problem. Texas was .653 OPS vs LHP, so go get a right-handed matchup weapon like Rob Refsnyder or Miguel Andújar.
