Bam mentally holding himself back

  1. We also feel the same. He usually is better when duoing with Ware but for some reason Spo decided to bench-jail him for eternity.

  2. It’s felt like that for 9 years. He clearly doesn’t have it in him and never will.

  3. Haha, those guys are asses but I was watching this broadcast and they said that shit and I had no sense of defending or disagreeing with them, was more like “yeah we know we know… “ lol

  4. He’s never been a consistent offensive player. You can’t just give him the ball and say get a bucket, why is it guys ignore this and act like he’s some mvp bucket getter. Your big would rather sit on the corner and shoot three and fadeaways. You’ll eventually realize he is what he is

  5. He has the tools he’s just soft, great guy, amazing human, gives effort but just comes off as soft.

Nico Harrison said defense wins championships, idk why he ain’t ask for Bam, instead of an often injured AD.

They need to try to get assets for him.

  6. Its Sad when the other teams announcers say you are mid. 50 million a year for a 3 option type offensive talent.

  7. He shows flashes of what he is capable of, but very inconsistent on offense. Maybe Ware can take over where he is lacking

  8. Man i agree bam could be more aggressive but the majority of his career this front office has done next to nothing to help him out. He’s just now getting legitimate front court help and he’s never been lucky enough to play with a high level guard consistently who actually compliments his game and understands how to get him involved.

I’m all for calling a spade a spade but we need to realize he’s been routinely put in tough positions in his career and made the most out of it. He is never going to be a #1 or #2 option on offense, yet he’s consistently asked to do that and he gets ridiculed when he falls short. He’s a great all around player who compliments those kind of players, it’s why he’s so popular amongst other stars in the league who want to play with him. Our front office failing to put the proper talent around him is not his fault. In reality we need to quit relying on guys to outplay their actual talent level and go out there and get that leader who changes everything for the team. Til then guys like bam will be analyzed like they are supposed to be much more when i dont think thats the truth.

The entirety of this roster suffers because we dont have that guy to rely on, we rely on everyone more than we’re supposed too, this is a roster made up of very nice complimentary pieces who are tasked with playing above their skill level every night due to a lack of talent, and Bam is the guy who’s asked to do the most and has been for his entire career sans 2020.

  9. It’s true, but he’s at the stage where he’s at his prime, so what we see now is the best we’re going to get out of him.

  10. Bam needs Halliburtons trainer. He needs someone to make him play like an asshole on the court. Then that aggression we are needing from him would come easy.

  11. It’s been like that for his whole career. He’s never going to be that type of player and in my opinion he’s not the player you build the franchise around

  12. Bam is best when he is taking those mid-range jumpers. Everything outside of that is hit or miss. He rarely drives past slower bigs or posts up smaller players. Even when he does, it’s hit or miss. He has a nasty habit of losing the ball on drives, or allowing a defender to poke the ball away. He lets much smaller defenders strip him of the ball in the post. He almost always gathers it low for some reason. I’ve never seen a big lose the ball in the post as much as he does. He is also good for at least one terrible pass every game. His outside shooting is inconsistent. He is what he is.

Now all that being said. He is still the most complete and important player on the team. But that is a problem in itself. He should be your third best player on a title team, and he is being played like a first or second option depending on lineups. This team is going nowhere as long as that’s the case. I also think he is starting to decline. His defense just hasn’t looked as good to me these past 2 seasons. Part of that could be the players on the court with him, but he seems a bit slower and less athletic than in years past.

It’s probably too early to panic. But if we are still struggling when fully healthy. I think the front office needs to make some hard choices. I’m not talking about trading for a star. That isn’t where this team is at right now. We don’t have the resources to trade for a star and still compete. We probably need a real rebuild. Not this rebuilding on the fly BS. Keep everyone under 25, and hope for some of that Mavericks luck in the lottery.

  13. That’s been the story for his entire career. Every year, they said he’d get over the hump but has only ever shown it in a blue moon game

  14. Bro works so hard on both sides of the ball. He has a role and plays it very well.

  15. Crazy how fast things change. A few weeks ago, people here said Bam was untouchable so he can play with Giannis. Then now, it’s trade Bam so Giannis can play with Ware. Heat fans can’t make up their mind lol. It’s been that kind of season.

  16. Anyone echoing the sentiment does not understand basketball.

Bam’s is a defensive player first and foremost. For every year that we have had him during his prime that he’d have been a top five team at preventing rim attempts. For those that don’t know shots at the rim are the most valuable shot in basketball. The net result is that we have essentially been a top-five defense no matter what. Do not forget we went an entire season with Bam playing out of position at the 5 and Caleb Martin was our starting power forward. We still had an amazing defense.

When Bam is off the court we are immediately 20th on defense and in the 20s in terms of net rating and when he is on the court we are a top 10 team in terms of not reading, and a really good defense. He is our most impactful player by far and if you want for him to be better on offense understand that but at that point you want a prime Anthony Davis level superstar and there are only a handful of those in the league.

It’s funny too because in these recent losses we just haven’t been making shots. Most of our 3 point shooters have been cold and even Kel’El can’t stay in front of anyone but we’re going to blame our best defensive player? Ridiculous.

  17. I genuinely do not understand why people are still saying this. We literally watch him lose his dribble all the time through contact and we watch him miss easy shots often. It’s not a matter of aggression, it’s a lack of ability. He is not a very good ballhandler through contact, he has bad footwork, he has bad touch around the basket, and he has a bad feel for angles. It is what it is. He just has not been very efficient lately so I don’t get the desire for him to be even more “aggressive.” You people are essentially asking him to be an inefficient shot chucker

  18. we’ve been hearing this from other players as well. Beasley, Spida, Whiteside. he just refuses to do this in-game, not only holding himself back, but the the team as well. I’ve been saying this for years, he makes the perfect backup center.

  19. When are we all going to realize Bam is just not that guy. He will always be an 18 and 10 player with amazing defense. We’ve always and still need a 1 option

  20. Nah, he is who he is. Only problem with Bam is that he is paid as if he were a star. He isn’t nor will he ever be. If he were paid $25m/yr then the expectations would be reset to his skill set. Another bad decision by Heat front office.

  21. This is why he is the main piece of our hypothetical trade package for Giannis. Ware has too much upside to let go that easily. We already know what both Bam and Giannis bring to the table so you can only take it at face value at this point. The one thing that I think keeps Bam here is the loyalty of the FO.

  22. He hasn’t been the alpha since High School. After that he was the 3rd guy behind De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk. Then came into a situation where he was a role player until Miami decided to dump Hassan to get Jimmy Butler who bullied everyone into follow the leader.

He’s passive and for the first time in a long time is able to be a leader. He has to learn.
