The WNBA Players Association ‘Votes Overwhelmingly To Authorize A Strike, If Necessary’ - Meanwhile, LIUNA ‘Joins In Solidarity With WNBA Players With Manhattan Billboard That Calls On The League To Reach A Fair’ Contract Deal

Laborers Local Union 1010 (LIUNA) took action in solidarity with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) last week by rolling a custom LED billboard outside the WNBPA League Office and NBA Store in Manhattan, calling on League Leadership to reach a fair contract deal that values Players and secures the future of the WNBA. Framed as a “Dear Santa” message, the billboard urged WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner Adam Silver to pay the Players and protect the 2026 season as collective bargaining negotiations continue. The action, coordinated with support from the New York City AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, drew national attention and underscored that the fight for pay equity crosses industries and professions – and that collective power is how Workers win respect, equity and fair compensation. Meanwhile, the WNBPA has also announced its Members have voted overwhelmingly to authorize calling a Strike “when necessary.”
