Devils’ Jack Hughes speaks for 1st time since freak injury, Quinn Hughes trade

time of year kind of thing. >> Hard to say. Like you just uh initially just listen to the doctors and see what they have to say. >> Obviously for you like it must have just been so disappointing, you know, a freak accident like that to happen. Just sort of what were the emotions that you kind of went through over the last couple weeks? >> Yeah, it was that was just a freak thing. So, um glad it wasn’t like season ending or anything like that. It could have been uh it was good news for for what I got. So, um yeah, glad glad that I’m back now feeling better. never easy to be on the sideline, but one of the things that, you know, Nico said right when you were out was, “We’re going to hold the fork for this guy, for the other injured players that we have on this roster.” What did you see? And what are those types of, you know, moments mean to you? >> Yeah, I mean, our team uh held it down. You know, I think we’re we’re still in a good spot. So, a lot of hockey left to be played. And I mean, we’re not the only team going through injury stuff. I think every team in the league’s got uh a ton of injuries happening right now. So, uh, obviously we’ve been affected, but, uh, a ton of other teams have, too. So, uh, happy to get patched back the other night and that’s a big big boost for our team and hopefully me soon. And, uh, >> yeah, just that’s just the way the league goes, right? Like teams get injured and and lose guys and, uh, other people have to step up. So, uh, our group did a good job. >> Is it just a matter now of like how you feel and respond to a pract like today’s practice kind of thing? >> Yeah. Yeah. just uh continuing to get better and feel better. So that’s about it. >> What happened with the the freak accident? >> Just Yeah, just a freak thing. >> Um is there do you feel like like you know structurally I guess you know with the nerves or anything like that? Does feel anything feel any different? >> No, I feel good. I feel good. >> Are there any challenges Jack that you may have to kind of endure during >> just uh coming back and and getting ready to play? >> Jack, what was your reaction to your brother getting treated? Yeah, that was uh happened fast and um I think he’s happy in Minnesota now. So, uh they got a great team there and they’re playing well, but uh definitely happened fast. >> Was there a level disappointment that it wasn’t New Jersey? >> Uh little bit, but I mean there’s you knew there was a likelihood was it probably wasn’t going to be New Jersey just because there’s 30 other teams outside of uh New Jersey and Vancouver. [snorts] So, um, >> yeah, I mean, I’m I’m I’m sure that he’s, uh, excited to be in Minnesota now and be on a good team and, uh, >> yeah, we’re happy for him. >> Is it Is your plan to play tonight? >> Yeah, I’m going to play tonight and, uh, >> yeah, just ease [laughter] my way into. >> Thanks. >> Yeah. All right, guys. Governor.

  1. Great to see him back! Early Christmas gift to the fans. That being said "Just a freak accident." Yeah ok…look, I was 25 once. I screwed around a few times and got hurt. I am sure he was screwing around as all guys do in their 20s, and he got hurt. Look it happens. You cant be old and wise without once being young and stupid lol
