Dead last in the league….

  1. We were playing better than expected this season, but it is now clear how much of that was Bedard carrying. Him out and Nazar now out too doesn’t help our results, but we weren’t a full contender yet. I’d rather have circumstances like this explain our losses rather than the absolute tanks we have had past years. If this gives us another high pick to round out the roster with even more prospects coming up next season, I am honestly all for it.

Edit: I do know how to spell Bedard, autocorrect does not.. I also cannot type losses

  2. In fairness, I guess, there are no teams that are absolute dogshit, standings wise this season.

But it’s also fair to say we have went down a path where we tanked, as an organization, for three consecutive years and are still hovering around dead last.

  3. The higher draft pick is nice, but honestly this off-season needs more roster building by Kyle Davidson. This team needs to be ready to finally take off. And sitting out of big trades or signings such as Marner and Hughes will make climbing out of irrelevance harder.

Bedard is a phenomenal part of this team, but it’s going to take more than one elite presence to push this team forward. And as GM part of your job is finding a way to construct a team built to sustain winning and maximize talent.

Bedard playing with bottom six forwards yearly isn’t great. Nor is expecting every young forward and defenseman to miraculously pan out as elite.

Realistically you have to acquire or find a way to get a known commodity, in exchange for assets. Bowman never could do this. KD has at least shown this with the Knight trade. But there needs to be more done. Especially if teams like Vegas can retool on the fly so effectively while maintaining a steady elite presence.

  4. I think this year has been fine. We have had a lot of exciting games, and we are still in last place? I haven’t been miserable this year like some years in the past. I’ve enjoyed this year even if we are bottom in the league.

  5. I’m not sure what your were expecting.
We were playing great. But we were CLEARLY playing above our current skill
But now Bedard and Nazar are both out so we’re going back down to the bottom

  6. This year the hockey is entertaining, and you can see light at the end of the tunnel, another high pick while the young guys figure it out, is a gift. Future is looking bright.

  7. Getting McKenna would be slick. The rebuild, I think, has been going well, but we are getting close to the time when people are going to want to see wins. Next season or the one after.

  8. I was surprised to see that but that won’t be for long. I’d genuinely like for that to happen as we can get McKenna. I feel like Hawks fans have the patience for one more stinker of a year after the potential we’ve seen recently. But again…not likely.

  9. This is best of both worlds. Bedard turned into a superstar, but the Hawks without Bedard and Nazar are likely going to be near the bottom of the league. Meanwhile the young guys (Levshunov, Moore, Lardis, Greene) are getting their feet wet and should be better next year.

  10. I would include knight alongside bedard in terms of carrying the team. Really had a strong showing even with nazar underperforming and the captain sidelined.

We are in dark times now and the next couple weeks will suck, but hopefully some players rise to the occassion.

  11. I can’t confirm date yet- but I’m seeing pics of bedard on X of him still in the sling. Was holding out hope for a quick turnaround based on recent comments , but guess not.
