Episode 3 and 5 was my favorites
the jersey story is insane
Skip forever
Okay, so stanable when it is going to come from Heated Rivalry fans need to be involved in a narrative because especially women connect to emotional stories and entry points (which is why a lot of them enjoy F1). That's why you see Celebrini/Smith, the Hughes Brothers, formerly Ulmark/Swayman bring popular. Matthews doesn't have that and McDavid and Drai don't really either. My suggestions, in addition to those I already mentioned, would be Crosby/MacKinnon, Crosby/Malkin, the young core of the Canadiens or the Senators, Frost/Farabee (traded together), Svechnikov/Jarvis.
What was that AI video at the end I'm crying it's terrible
Shawn is 100% correct on the stan-able players thing. The girls and gays stan for the whimsy and the narratives. It is true the boys do stan bedard (see that blackhawks tiktoker that calls him pookie bear).
Buffalo being the new hottest team from being trashed by both Ilya and Shane last episode.
Provorov's reasoning for not wearing the pride jersey was bigoted though. He didn't frame it around fearing for his family. He was like, ew, gay people are bad!
My favourite podcast reacting to my favourite show will never get old. Love you boys, thanks for always giving us a fantastic episode breakdown and review. As always, LOVE the fact that you boys love the show so much. Thanks for being amazing allies.
No in the book all the family did come onto the ice, and reporters etc then Scott Hunter waved Kip down. I think in the show they just couldn’t bother with that detail
Came for Heated Rivalry thoughts, pleasantly surprised by your anti-AI stance in the later part. You guys are awesome.
Why has no body mentioned that is 100% NOT the sling that an NHL player would be given with a broken clavicle? For some reason this bothered me SO MUCH.
Ok Im very here for all the HR content
But as a canes fan
F*** THOSE STUPID RATS
HITTING OUR GOALIE AND BREAKING OUR TOP SCORER😭
They freakin wasted an entire book’s material on Scott and Kip’s relationship and went straight to the ending; I don’t think they’re revisiting it either. It’s a shame. I only hope they don’t do this to other books’ characters
Where’s the goalie love? They’re on the ice for the entire game, unless they’re pulled for an extra skater on the ice, or the backup goalie is put in. The goalie weirdness is so entertaining. Fleury’s pranks, too. 😂 I’m a hockey fan (go Pens!) first, and then later I started reading hockey romance books, but I never even expected a show like Heated Rivalry to be made. I’m amazed by how the show has pulled in so many viewers outside of fans of the books, especially the straight men who are watching just because they love hockey.
learning that pete is a huge batman head… should i be tuning in more often
“Chat, calm down on poppers talk” made me pause the video to cackle 😂😂😂 chat holding it down
Super invested in the Sabres upward swing let's turn this around!
The families had already come onto the ice before Scott went to get Kip. Scott was looking at all his teammates greeting their families and looking very much alone and then he decided to go get Kip.
Noooo! Please stop spreading the "it was all in his head" theory 😭😭. In the book that's exactly what happened: Ilya went home ALONE and jer$ed off thinking of Shane. The bathroom is different from the other hotel room? Of course. He needed to hide it from his teammates that he'd gone home alone. Didn't want any questions being asked. It was not in Shane's imagination😭. Thank you 🤭🤭🤭😅😅😅🤗🤗🤗
Could yall mention how the PWHL has openly gay members? It's something I'm not seeing mentioned too much and Chu/Ouellette's love story seems so similar to the Heated Rivalry story.
I found this show through HR but I will stick with it because I have been an NHL fan for 20 years, but can't really get into it until after the holidays.. and as a woman who doesn't live off sportscenter, this will help keep me up to date on how the year is going… so when the inevitable dude hears I'm a fan and starts quizzing me to prove I'm not really a proper fan I can shut him down.
Watching you guys discuss your love of this show so fervently is pretty amazing ❤ more of men like you please
HR Episode 5 vaulted the show into the Stratosphere 54:40. Exactly!!! This is a show that bridges everyone! Thanks guys. You guys rock.
51:59–52:11 Hey I would like to say that was nothing fantastical or fantasy-like about the Scott & Kip scene, because things like that have happened in real life. Whether it’s someone proposing or a parent coming "home" from the army to surprise their kid before the BIG GAME, moments like these are real. They just haven’t happened as often to people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
In case anyone doesn’t know, the Scott and Kip scene actually happened in real life at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Kelley O’Hara came out publicly by kissing her girlfriend in the stands after the USWNT won the World Cup.
The reason the Scott and Kip scene is so moving and touching is because Scott literally made history as the first gay hockey player to come out, which can potentially influence others to come out as well, and that’s a big thing.
Fuck comma buddy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol at the Netflix joke
A really good show/story/media has the power to really change you and thsi show is making me genuinely interested in hockey.
I heard someone say Scott Hunter runs like Phoebe Buffay from Friends and now I can't unsee it.😂
Stellar review again. Appreciate your insight on this show. Ep5 has resonated with me since Thursday night. I need more than 6 episodes. Looking forward to your final review and your thoughts on where Season 2 may be going…
yall giving the most thoughtful heated rivalry review AND shitting on ai slop in the same episode this is truly the best hockey pod out there
I love the watch party reaction 1:39:13
It's exactly what Jacob Tierney was talking about and aiming for with this show. So heartwarming ❤

I don't like the way Shane's injury was showed in the episode… In the book he just gets hit while he has the puck, but not fault of his own. The réaction here shows that he's going to get crucified for it when their relationship becomes public.
Not the Mitch Hedberg mention!! Now I love this podcast even more.
I have my theory : Shane looking back at Ilya is like Orpheus looking back at his love Eurydice and losing her in hell. But maybe it's a bit much 😅
Did you see Francois Arnaud, the actor playing Scott, said hockey agents have told him their clients, have gone through what his character and others have.
shane wanst imagining. Ilya went home alone
Someone commented in a post about Heated rivalry that it was unlikely straight men liked Heated rivalry – you guys show that this is clearly dead wrong.
I commented on the ep 3 ending saying that I wasn't sure if Scott covering Kip's socks was supposed to carry dramatic weight. Obviously, it was. I read it now as Scott staying in the closet, but he still has feelings for Kip (that's why Kip and co. have seats).
My first LOL moment in this ep was Ilya's reaction when Svetlana says he could play on the wing with Shane centering.
Thinking about possible S2 storylines: without spoiling anything, ep 6 will show that there is more to come for the Hollanov arc and depending on how they adapted the epilogue we'll know how much of Ryan Price's story we might get.
I was going to write more but will wait for after the season finale so I don't spoil anything.
You guys should invite Francois Arnaud (Scott Hunter) to the show! I feel like his character is having an impact in the hockey world from what I've read in some interviews.
A team captain getting his shit rocked 20 seconds into a game doing goo-goo eyes at his situationship of 9 years is exactly what hockey needs more of for me to tune in. The biggest draw of womens sports for me is the players dating each other. Tell me this team is playing against that team on Friday? Not interested. Tell me it's this and thats players first time playing against each other since they broke up? I WILL be watching with popcorn. An additional layer of relationship drama is just what male professional sport needs and I will die on this hill. Sports fans are depriving themselves of God-tier content by being homophobic
Shane looking back at Ilya doesn’t happen in the book. He gets smacked into the glass in a bad way instead, there is no eye contact with Ilya when it happens.
Luke Prokop.
Dudes, Heated Rivalry is not a documentary. It's a work of fiction. Just enjoy it as a work of fiction.
Okay, fine. FINE. I'll remain as a subscriber after the Heated Rivalry reviews are over. Because y'all are so open, honest and welcoming about it all. And good at this conversational thing, of course.
FYI: Do you know who Connor Stories (Ilya) played in the Joker movie in the Joaquin Phoenix version ?!..
