“The Mets hold interest in adding a right-handed batter to balance out their lineup, people familiar with their conversations said. That could end up being someone who can also play first base.”

So, who do you want at first base?

  1. But our lineup is mostly righties now(?) and switch hitters that are better from the right side. We have Soto and Baty as lefties and that’s it.

  2. Letting Pete walk without an offer or a clear replacement signed within one week gives all of us the impression there was no plan and no respect for what fans of this club value.

  3. What a crazy insider scoop. Mets have interest in plugging the obvious massive gap at 1b!

  4. Yandy Diaz is the best realistic option imo. Perfect hitter to put behind Soto in the lineup. Destroys lefties. Okamoto would be fun too.

  5. Wow so the Mets want a bat AND they also want someone who can play first? Now that’s some serious reporting

  6. Honestly cool with any combination of O’Hearn, Okamoto, Bellinger, Yandy. Still leaves us an OF short. Marte? Bellinger? Robert?

If Stearns likes positional flexibility, Bellinger seems like a no brainer to pair with an OF or 1B. Bellinger and Marte could hypothetically play OF and Bellinger 1B. Bellinger moves to OF in an injury.

Bellinger and O’Hearn? Bellinger can move to 1B in an injury. We pulled money off the books losing Alonso, Diaz, and McNeil. Do a 4 year high AAV with Belli.

  7. I liked when they had guys who could hit, but couldn’t play defense. Or were really good at defense, but couldn’t hit. They still have a lot of guys like that, but it looks like the team has a new philosophy. I just hope they continue with pitchers who can’t pitch. So far so good!!!

  8. I’ve been telling people for the past few seasons, if Pete Alonzo had the career he’s had on another team, the Mets would have signed him in free agency. I still have no idea why they left him walk. It pains me.

  9. Can we get another out fielder? We are doing last years DH platoon with first base and we don’t have an MLB level outfielder for LF/CF for opening day.

  10. I mean considering I’m sure we’re also after an outfielder I’m sure it could be a left/center fielder as well

  11. Yea, it sure would be nice to have a right handed batter who could play first base. Can’t think of anyone who could have filled that role for the Mets.
