The Toronto Maple Leafs Are Officially BROKEN..

The Toronto Maple Leafs have given up. After what was their most promising season a few short months ago, the Leafs have started to come undone through the first three months of this campaign. Laziness, lack of coaching, no culture, are a few terms being associated with Toronto right now, and fans are not exactly thrilled by this effort from the organization. So today let’s breakdown this lackluster start to the season for Toronto’s hockey team and determine if this is a just a slump or something much much bigger. 1. Tell the whole story Berube rescued Jordan Binnington from the minors where he was sent because he had an explosive temper and hatted to lose. He back stopped the Blues into the play offs with 2.46 GAA and in the play offs went 16 8 2 Saves 748 and 0.914. Berube got his players to respond, but there was also no legacy of privilege with the blues, that some TO players learned under Dubas's weak Management style. It is odd to me that some players think they get pay lots of money because they are good looking and put up numbers. Fans and owners, (Corp owners less so) want their players and team to play to WIN.

  2. Stop it with the losing the room BS. They are paid to play, is it in Nylander's Contract that he is not to be criticized for not back checking or forechecking? Does Mathews contract say he must have X amount of ice time to score, or just these players on the ice? Babcock, too mean, Dubas, too soft, Berube, not my friend? Where does it end, do they want their parents on the bench? The only thing different from last seasons first place in the Div finish and two rounds and not one, is MARNER, and the guy in charge, of that is Treliving. From what I understand he is a quasi Nepo hire. The team he built in Calgary is also a disaster.

  3. Buffalo is the biggest disaster, lets be real. And the Canucks are competing hard with the Leafs now. And thats just recency bias, as at the start of the season the Flames were Canadas most embarrassing team.
But yes, the Leafs are embarrassing.

  4. "Best team Toronto has had in the Matthews era"

Except when you had Marner, the best regular AND postseason player on Toronto, when you were first in the Atlantic.

    Buckle up, Toronto is toast

  5. Goaltending injuries can never be an excuse for the Maple Leafs because they chose to instead of having a front line number one goalie at 8 million a year, they chose to roll with 3 back ups who are all roughly the same caliber. Woll, Stolarz, and Hildeby are all roughly the same. None of them are a front line cup caliber goalie. Woll or Hildeby may some day DEVELOP into one, but none of them are there yet.

  6. The injury thing… ehhh… I know its there with the Leafs, but look at Tampa (among others)… but focus on the Bolts just for a moment. Vasy has been in and out and JoJo isn't exactly JoWoll. McD, Cernak and Hedman feel like they've barely played this year… Lilleberg is out til Feb… Hagel has been in and out, Point in and out and clearly playing injured… Cirelli in and out.. Kuch was injured, then stick then injured… think he's sick agian… Paul didn't lace em up till like 2nd week of November… and on and on… this team has been brutalized.

Here's the difference… even when the Bolts were at their worst for the injury bug… I never felt like they were phoning it in. Guentzal and Cirelli are always working their bags off. Moser and Raddysh decided to go from "who?" to one of the best defensive pairs in the league. New guys like D'Astous decided to say "I belong here".

Where is that in Toronto? You can't tell me the talent isn't there, even among the lower lineup guys.

I have, for many many moons, said… it's the voices in the room. It all flows from Matthews and Nylander. They lack the killer instinct and the appropriate amount of EFF YOU.

  7. The Leafs are a dumpster fire, full stop. Injured or not, Matthews has no heart and no drive whatsoever. He looks completely checked out and is a husk of what he used to be, especially without Marner. I remember the good ol’ days when star players didn’t make excuses. Remember the year when Steve Yzerman led the Red Wings to the cup while playing on a broken foot? Stevie didn’t make excuses.

Now I’m not saying that guys should deliberately play hurt. But it just goes to show how this generation of players differs from the greats of the past. As the second highest paid player in all the NHL, Matthews has zero excuse to be as checked out as he is. If his injury situation is as long-term and nagging as it allegedly is, FFS, shut him down and give him the time to recover properly at this point instead of the excuses. It’s clear the Leafs are not going to contend for a cup this year, let alone possibly not even make the playoffs, so why even bother.

Coaching is not the problem with this team. We went from Babcock to Keefe to Berube and the results are the same. They can’t say it’s Berube after last year’s playoff run either. Take that away, and you have your answer as to what’s wrong with this team.

  8. They traded the wrong player away. Should of got rid of Mathews and got a couple decent players or first round pick plus. They play better without Mathews like last year in the playoffs. He comes back and they get best 7-2 wtf. He spends more time injured and his glory day's are gone and eventually no one will want to pay any money for mathews. What a disgrace the leads are now. Beer league players probably do better at this point tbh

  10. NMC are an albatross.

Taking the C off a player is classless..and Cactus was classless for accepting it.

Like Doug "Babysitter" Gilmour was classless when he didnt hand it back to Wendel Clark.

  11. I have an idea…don’t play in Toronto. Problem solved

Edit: the problem is the fans, and most of all, the media there. Not to mention the taxes take half their money while an 81-1-0 season would be considered a failure and the media would tear apart the team and players for that 1 loss. It’s the worst place in all of hockey.

  12. NMC/NTC's have Screwed Toronto for the next 5 to 8 years. Since we Drafted Mathews we have traded away 40+ Draft picks since then..
And our next 2 years maybe even 3 years of 1st rnd picks are gona already

  13. Leafs got no defence and as good as Matthews and Nylander can be, they'r hardly McDavid and Draisatl who can carry a team deep into the playoffs.
