Mackey: Pirates are not done adding

  1. If this team signs Okamoto plus a lefty depth SP, it will be the best off-season this organization has had in the 21st century. Nothing would even be close to it.

  2. Remember when the believers told everyone to take a breath and the doomers didn’t listen? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  3. Most likely: vet LH starter. $5M. I think you would be unwise to bank on 3 spots filled by Chandler, Ashcroft, Jones, Mlod, Barco, and Harrington. All have something to prove and most will have innings limits.

One more bat would help. Cutch or Andujar would be uninspiring but fit. Okamoto or Suarez would be the LFG move.

  4. If you bring in a Suarez or Okamoto this line up becomes really intriguing with some combination of

    1. Griffin
    2. Cruz
    3. Reynolds
    4. Lowe
    5. O’Hearn
    6. Suarez/Okamoto
    7. Horwitz
    8. Garcia/Triolo/Mangum
    9. Flores/Davis

That line up on its own is pretty middle of the pack maybe slightly above.. but with the Pirates starters middle of the pack could easily get you into the playoffs

  5. Not done adding implies another hitter will be brought in.

I give credit to BC . He’s done this without trading Keller.

  6. Just taking a look at vet LHP available for cheapish: Quintana, Austin Gomber, Martin Perez, Tyler Anderson.

Nestor Cortes had surgery and is out for some time.

Jordan Montgomery had TJ this year and may not be available to start the year.

  7. I want Okamoto, and I also want Cutch to come back. I know he doesn’t exactly fit in anywhere, but the inner little me would be pissed off if he got left off the team when it’s actually trying for the first time in ten years.

  8. This has been exciting so far but have to temper my expectations bc it’s Nutting at the end of the day.

  9. Everyone is leaning towards another signing, I’m leaning towards a trade. Maybe Alec Bohm? Philly wants to rid themselves of him for whatever reason so he may not cost too much.
