MLB Rumors: Yankees Out on Tatsuya Imai, Giants Have Another Opportunity

  1. God, can we please ban aggregator websites that don’t actually report anything? Just the most low effort slop imaginable.

  2. If we aren’t going after him, I really hope it’s because we don’t trust his stuff and not because of $$$. I’m not gonna pretend to know how his stuff will play in the majors, we’ll have to wait and see. But if he ends up being a stud elsewhere, there’s going to be a lot of angry giants fans.

  3. I can imagine how it went:

Imai: “Thanks for affording me this opportunity.”

    Yankees: “fuggetaboutit…”

Imai: *gasps* “Forget about YOU!!” *storms out of the room*

    Yankees: “……………………….fuggetaboutit”

  4. It sounds like teams are getting scared of giving him his reported price of 30M a year, but eventually something will need to happen. He has to sign by January 2nd, so he’s only got 10 days left to sign, and I don’t imagine it’ll happen today, tomorrow, or even through the weekend.

It’s starting to look like he’ll have to bring his price down if he wants a shot in the MLB. I’m not going to say it’ll be us, but I can see whichever team that signs him giving him either massive performance bonuses, escalators, or an early opt out.

I’m starting to think he might get like four or five years, 100M-125M, but with an opt out after years 2 and/or 3. That’s the kind of deal I could see this team jumping on though.

  5. Seems like teams don’t want to meet the price tag that Boras is putting out there. Imai’s track record isn’t perfect as he had a rough start to his career with command issues, and teams are always going to be cautious with an undersized pitcher. It’s quite understandable that teams aren’t looking to tie up substantial money given the risk involved. Good news is that Imai has a deadline on 01/02 so Boras can’t keep stretching this out until spring training.

  6. Buster isn’t going to let anyone know what the organization is planning. All the speculation in these articles isn’t worth the bits they take up in the cloud, ignore it all.

  7. 🙄 This is the stupidest logic I’ve ever heard. How does yankees out = Giants in? If there were only 6 teams in MLB maybe this makes sense, but even if there were only 10 teams this is moronic. Has it been reported that Imai’s camp has dropped their asking price? Because that might mean even more teams are back in, including the fuckin yanks.
