Mike Brown: “Tyler was good in spurts…11 rebounds his size fantastic too…For a young guy tried to do what he could. But we need more from him, moreso defensively, if we expect to get a win on the road”

  1. Any Yankee fan will appreciate this the way Boone lays out the animal crackers and juice boxes after a loss.

  2. I think he deserves a bit more credit, but at the same time what more can he do defensively? His defense already looks better than it was to start the season.

I was pretty impressed…. but Coach knows more than I do! Maybe the criticism will push him to do better

  3. When Kolek tried to bait Gobert and the refs while trying to run through a gobert screen, it looked like kolek was trying to feign effort that wasn’t really there in the first place. He ran into gobert and hugged him and stuck to him. It was sort of silly. Brown was like yeah you’re sitting after that big dog lol.

  4. This is a coach throwing down the gauntlet on a young player. Based on what we have seen so far, TK is up for that challenge.

  5. This is a sign of respect. If he didn’t see more potential in Kolek, he wouldn’t be raising the bar of expectations.

  6. I think this was all cnstructive. Kolek will continue to get big mins. My best guess is we will trade for another big man .

  7. I watched the game and thought Kolek was pretty bad for the most part. Especially running the offense…burned a lot of time trying to set up screens with Mitch and a lot of possessions nobody but him touched the ball. Lots of questionable shots. Box score does not tell the story on this one

  8. This is how you develop a player and his confidence. You did x y and z well but you need to work on a b and c, and we will continue to work on it because I want you to play you more and keep you in there and they way to do that is to shire up the weaknesses you have

  9. 3 for 10 at halftime and ending up 6 for 12? I didn’t hear the rest after that because I kept trying to do the math of what he shot in the second half…

  10. Why use quotation marks if you’re going to misquote the entire statement? Sorry for not adding anything here but it’s just like…hard to even read.

  11. Agree. I think he got it in his head that he needed to be Brunson, when he just needed to be in the game for Brunson. He took too many shots when he should’ve gotten more people involved from the jump. That was really it. He was good otherwise.

  12. Kolek was tremendous. We win that game 10 times outta 10 with Jalen playing. But yeah, I was very impressed with Kolek.

  13. They need to force him and bridges to hit the weight room bc they are defensive liabilities due to lack of toughness

  14. Tyler definitely looked crafty out there. He’s picking it up.

That little Pinoy step was filthy, especially with the quick fake on the first step to get the defenders to jump past him.

As others are saying, if he can get to around average defense, and hit solid 3’s, he’s gonna get real minutes.
