Hi everyone

This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions (the company that invented Defensive Runs Saved). Just sharing our Stat of the Week this week, which is an appreciation of Alex Gordon's defensive performance. I wanted to writ about the Hall of Fame Ballot this week without writing about the top guys and Gordon seemed like the best way to do that.

The TLDR version of the post is – wow he was good, particularly in how his arm was a deterrent and in how rarely he bobbled balls to allow guys to take extra bases on him.

Anyway, enjoy the holidays and if you have any questions about the article or our data, just ask.

  1. This is one hell of a Christmas Eve gift! I’ll happily read any and everything that’s got Alex Gordon in it. Dude was a blast to watch, damn near a machine in LF, and has one of the biggest/coolest Royals post-season moments.

I’ve always wondered how do you determine (statistically) when a runner shuts it down instead of advancing because of an arm. I mean I can watch it and go “yeah they don’t want to test Gordo” but is there a way you measure that or just look at how often people advance on balls hit in that spot or something?

  2. He’s not going to make the hall of fame (understandably), I just hope to see some random person vote him so we can say “we had a player voted on in the hall of fame ballot!”
