[Passan] Reliever Pete Fairbanks and the Miami Marlins are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Fairbanks, 32, had an $11 million option turned down by Tampa Bay and went onto the open market and beat it by $2 million. @WillSammon was first on the deal.

Relief pitching FA market is shrinking.
How do you feel our bullpen stacks up right now?

Bullpen stonks dropping
No Passan… come back with Bo or Tucker news
Damn. Any chance they convert Varland into a closer?
Kinda surprised jays weren’t more in on him. Seems like we’re staying put with Rogers being the only real add to the pen
bro really wanted to stay in florida
Really wasn’t interested in a guy who can’t pitch in cold weather. Happy he’s out of the division though
Are bullpen seems to be a solid middle of the pack maybe a little higher. It’s a little oddly structured with the likes of berrios/ponce competing and lauer as long men. Tyler rogers and varland for a full year is a huge boost over last year.
I am completely fine with our pitching situation.
Having Cease and Rogers immediately provides way more length, which provides reliability and breathing room for guys like Brendon Little who were wayyyy overutilized in 2025. We also still have Lauer and Francis, which are nice cushions for eating innings, and hopefully a Rickey T appearance on the horizon. Yimi Garcia should also be back, and he’s disgusting when he’s on. ^(Yimi for closer)
I also have a lot of faith in a Hoffman redemption season. I know he was very good at times, but he was also very bad at times. He has the stuff to be a weapon, just needs to be in the GD zone more
he’ll be a Blue Jay on Aug 1
Do we really need to worry that much about our ‘pen right now when we have 7 or 8 starting options and at most 6 spots for them?
Pretty disappointed, he was the last really strong reliever left. Really hoped we’d pick up him or one of the million average lefties that were signed in the last week.
Seems odd to penny-pinch on a $6M lefty or an extra couple million on a leverage reliever when you’re going all-in elsewhere. But I can’t exactly complain about Rogers’ willingness to spend either!
Teams quit buying volatile relievers for high prices right before they get the next Edwin Diaz
I think a better move would be for Dennis Santana or Jojo Romero. Both should be fairly priced.
Honestly I wish we got someone like him as a real closer. I know we really need Bo and Tucker right now but we should also get one more super reliable and shut down type of closer other than Hoffman. I do still believe in Hoffman in most of the situations though.
Damn, really wanted him. Think we could still use another closing arm. We can add at the deadline though
Okay
I think we need one more late inning guy. Bassit out of the bullpen would be my guy on a cheap 1 year deal.
