Good for him
Love that the only reliever the Dbacks have spoken to this offseason decided to sign elsewhere! Fantastic work!
Thought he was going to get more years
Probably the perfect landing spot for Pete, since he can’t pitch in the cold. One of my all-time favorite Rays. His crazy coked-up look and 12-6 curve were a sight to behold.
Please take care of my boy.
Editing to share my favorite Pete Fairbanks interview:
Marlins GM Bendix is one of my favorites to follow. Making great moves with limited money.
Can’t wait for this guy to be a Dodger or Yankee at the trade deadline
Is he the last FA closer on the market?
Every year now it seems like a lot of the better relievers sign with bad-to-mid teams for the deadline trade value
You’d think an upper end team would have beat $13 million to save on prospect capital but it never seems to work out that way
Good move for Pete. Go to the team that’ll pay the most and probably get traded to a contender at the trade deadline.
Need became more pressing once they lost Henriquez
Why tho
It seems that all the low payroll teams might be making moves this year in order to raise payroll and get ahead of any arguments in favor of a payroll floor during upcoming CBA talks?
Regardless, it’s interesting seeing the White Sox, A’s, Pirates, and Marlins making interesting moves during the offseason.
So the guards are the lowest in terms of payroll now?
WE DID IT, WE DID SOMETHING!
I think this happened with Kyle Schwarber too. Non-tendered but signed for more than he was estimated to get in arbitration
Outbid by the Marlins in a way. You don’t read that too often.
Miami is extremely far away from Fairbanks, though.
This is a Christmas miracle. I’m so happy lol
Well, he is still staying in Florida
Another closer signed. It’s the hottest market.
Fire up statesmen! 🎩🧡🖤
Goddammit, the Sox are gonna close by committee again this year aren’t they
oh fuck yeah this guy’s great, merry christmas to me
A lot of teams in the middle really dropped the ball if Fairbanks had to sign with Miami.
It’s a freaking Christmas miracle, the Marlins did something.
Bro loves the Florida weather, I respect it.
I really don’t know why the Rays declined his option. Even before seeing that he got more on the open market, he still had a lot of trade value even if you thought he was paid a bit more than he was worth. This just feels like an unforced error that is even more obvious in hindsight.
how often does a quality player hit FA and stay in florida?
The good ole’ “My family wants to know who’s paying for the Christmas turkey” signing.
The Pirates, White Sox, and Marlins are the most active teams on the market right now 😭
Going to a team run by the former Rays guy
Also it’s a warm weather area and indoors. I’ve always wondered if people would get scared off because of Fairbanks’ Reynaud’s Syndrome, along with the volatility of being a reliever and a former Ray at that.
