The Angels have been a dumpster fire of a franchise for decades now, but it's important to remember that Tyler Skaggs was a drug addict in the offseason, too. For the family to say that they had no idea that their perfect son had a monkey on his back for several years is an admission that they are naive fools.
Made a good offer
This isnt the greatest take. First, there is a major deterrent effect with lawsuits like this and money is the only remedy we really have in civil society. That said, the primary reason this took so long to settle is almost certainly a conflict between the Angels and their insurance carrier in determining who would pay how much and that led to this case being tried, which it should have never reached given the underlying facts.
