I highly doubt they remain in this position by the end of the offseason, but it is embarrassing that they ever reached it. This ownership deserves to be embarrassed.

  1. I hope Jose Ramirez shows up the front office/ownership in some way, shape, or form. For them to lie to him about spending on other players so he takes the hometown discount is extreme malpractice

  2. JRam, his unwaveringly consistent excellence, and his willingness to take so much less money to stay in Cleveland are lightning in a bottle. It’s absolute malpractice that ownership doesn’t care to make any investment in putting the best possible team around him. Even an average amount of effort would be a huge improvement

LOL with Paul Dolan all things cheaping out are possible

  4. Dolan is done being majority owner in the next 2-3 years and he’s given up all sense of even pretending to care. He’s been a bottom 5 owner in the league for well over a decade and it gets overlooked because the team still wins against all odds. Dude is unbelievably cheap

  5. Honestly impressive. If only they could spend a couple more bucks to round out their team. But ownerships is very happy with how far the team gets and how little they spend

  6. God help Vogt trying to turn the lineup around Jose Ramirez into anything resembling a good offense

The Dolan’s are worth billions of dollars. Spend some of it and act like you give a shit about your fanbase.

  8. I wouldn’t say Austin Hedges is a future HOFer and top 10 player just yet, maybe one day though

  9. Cleveland are the Rays of the Midwest. J-Ram is their Evan Longoria, the extremely loyal homegrown hero.

They do win and have been a very consistent franchise the past decade, but this is who they are. Their ownership just does not spend at all. They do the same thing the Rays and A’s do trading away guys for prospects, so they don’t have to pay anyone.

I’ll give the organization credit for player development, but their owners are easily the biggest fucking cheapskates with Bruce Sherman and Bob Nutting.

  10. Baseball would be in such a better place if these broke ass teams all totally sucked. That would really put pressure on these greedy owners.

  11. Honestly with Clase and all the other former Guardians littered throughout playoff teams they let go, they had enough pieces to have won the WS this year or at least contend with the Dodgers.

But, giving up too early too often definitely how you end up not winning a world series since the 50’s (or the 80’s in the case of my divisional compatriot Tigers…we do the same thing).

  12. This season is going to be VERY dependent on how the very impressive batch of prospects actually perform in the bigs. The ones who made it up last season looked good, but they’ll need CDL and Bazzana to stay healthy and absolutely pop off if they want to win the division again. I’m cautiously optimistic, especially if Kyle Manzardo continues his growth as a power hitter.

  13. Honest question here, eli5 and not trying to be a dick but:

WHY FUCKING OWN A TEAM IF YOU WON’T SPEND ON PLAYERS?

THE WEAKNESS OF THIS TEAM IS OFFENSE. THEY CAN’T HIT. AND YOU DON’T WANT TO GET ANY HITTERS.

    help me understand

  14. I love following a sport where I can safely say my team is incapable of winning a championship in my lifetime

  15. Can we stop glorifying cheap billionaires who refuse to reinvest in their cities and teams?

  16. In OOTP Cleveland always spends like 300,000,000 in the offseason and ends up as one of the best teams in the league

  17. Certain player on that team shouldn’t take 10s of millions dollars worth of pay cuts to stay on the team while the owner laughs in billions.

  18. And whiney-ass Tigers “fans” are still going to complain that our owner doesn’t spend enough.

  19. Even with a team ahead of them losing a player and the fish gaining one, they’re still 3rd lowest on this list.

  20. Getting doubled up by Detroit and KC is just embarrassing. Paul Dolan is a pathetic excuse of a human being.

  21. Man I would probably boycott the stadium if I was a Guardians fan. This is ridiculous.

  22. Any team spending under $150-$200 mil needs new ownership. It’s ridiculous how much profit they make.

  23. I’m pretty sure Miami still has the lowest payroll. This chart isn’t updated with all the other moves made.

  24. Yeah sick of this shit. Wasting Jose’s prime while surrounding him with a bunch of .200 platoon players. Yes we have been successful in the regular season but the whole “make it to October and anything can happen” thing is bullshit. What happens is we lose because ownership refuses to address needs by signing ANY proven player(s). And we have some bootlicking fans that still defend the Dolan’s somehow, it’s insane.
