Many people criticize RDS/Houde for not being neutral enough, but have you seen the other teams or did you ever watch the broadcasting of the opponents?

  2. He is the most neutral commentor I have heard personally. But he is less neutral as time goes on

  3. He is pretty neutral. RDS is pretty hard on the Habs in general. Houde was pointing out Caufield’s slump last night, and was critical of Struble, Matheson and Carrier too.

  4. I think there should be an unwritten rule that you can’t complain about another team’s regional broadcasters for being homers. Every team’s broadcasters are homers, that’s their job.

But… the Bruins broadcasters are also giant whiners.

  5. NESN Jack Edwards was more of a homer than any other broadcaster in the league. It was like watching a game with the whinest fan, and you couldn’t say anything back.

  6. Both Houde and Denis at RDS were openly questioning why Sturm didn’t challenge the decision, so what’s the point?

  7. Houde tries to be neutral but clearly wants the Habs to win, which is fine IMO. I expect the local announcers to favour the home team to a degree.

The NESN guys are just clowns. Their commentary on the Demidov goal last night was extremely muted, basically no criticism of the Bruins. If it had been the Habs giving up that goal, Houde would have had some opinions.

  8. Especially since 69.1 is pretty clear on this:

“If a defending player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by an
attacking player so as to cause the defending player to come into
contact with his own goalkeeper, such contact shall be deemed
contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule, and if
necessary a penalty assessed to the attacking player and if a goal is
    scored it would be disallowed.”

  9. I don’t know for yall but I don’t want my french commentary covering the only team in a french province to be absolutely neutral when commentating

  10. I had the misfortune of watching some of the game on NESN last night. I finally found the TSN broadcast but for certain parts I kind of wanted to switch back for schadenfreude, but I never did. I still remember watching 2010 playoffs with Jack Edwards and it gave new meaning to the phrase Fuck the Bruins.

  11. You’re lucky if you get RDS, those of us subjected to Craig button on tsn have to endure the worst takes ever. He’s a habs homer, but an absolute clown it’s awful

  12. They play to their audience, Jack Edward’s was so good at that. This is what their audience wants to hear, they want the “Oh look it’s because of Montreal getting the call again” and it works in their market. English side is actually pumping Canadiens tires like no other, I’ve never heard Craig Button that much of a Habs fan since forever. Yea…don’t read to much into it they’re just trying to gain traction and viewership and Montreal vs Boston generates the most traction out of any rivalry in Boston.

  13. I will sadly miss Pierre Houde and his passion once he’s gone, no one calls LE BUUUUUT like he does

  14. I actually prefer it when the regional broadcasters are homers, we get no love at all from Sportsnet or TSN so I would actually like to have a NESN crew for the Habs…Watching my broadcast jammed with Leafs and Sens news and commentary fucking sucks.

  15. Any sentence that starts with “Many people say/think/whatever” is meaningless 99.9% of the time.

    Move on.

  16. I’ve always been surprised to hear, for example, the Raptors announcers call the players by their nicknames. Houde and Denis have never done that

  17. I don’t mind the bias, like declare Pasta the best player in the league for all I care. But don’t pretend you don’t understand that call. You can say you disagree, but it’s clear why the call was made.

  18. I followed Colorado as a second team a bit à few seasons ago. Their cast is very biased and I think there’s definitely a crowd for it in all markets.

  19. I’ve never heard anyone say this about the RDS announcers. Pierre Houde says AT LEAST 5 times per game “et le Canadien s’en tire” or “quel mauvais jeu par ____”. I have been listening to Pierre Houde for over 30 years and as others have said, he clearly wants the Habs to win, but I feel he calls it how it is. I will listen to Pierre until his retirement. I have a satellite dish just to get around blackouts so I can listen to him. In a major city. In 2025.

  20. I’m a Habs fan who just moved out of Boston after 6 years. One of my guilty pleasures was listening to Boston Sports Radio on the way to work in the morning. The amount of gratification I got from Felger and Maz whining about Boston sports every morning helped me get through each day.

  21. Has anybody ever listened to a game called by René Lecavalier? The Habs literally won their 4th cup in a row and he sounded like he couldn’t care less. Sure, he was amazing and a legend, but in our day and age it’s all about spectacle.

  22. Why the fuck would they complain about this? Home announcers are always biased. How could they not; they watch every single game of the team for years and years.
