The Capitals are such a weird team this season. Some nights they look competitive, organized, and capable of hanging with anyone and then other nights they just completely unravel, like that rough loss to the Rangers where the third period just fell apart on us. It’s the inconsistency that hurts the most, because you can see there is something there… it just doesn’t show up often enough.
Ovechkin is still doing Ovechkin things when he can, there are stretches where the effort is absolutely there, and every now and then they put together a genuinely solid team performance. But between shaky defensive stretches, momentum swings, and games getting away late, it feels like you never really know which version of the Caps is going to show up.
The frustrating part? They’re still close enough in the playoff conversation that hope isn’t dead but the margin for error keeps shrinking. If they want to be taken seriously, they’ve got to stop playing 40 minutes of hockey and start playing 60.
Mentioned this in comments for anyone who missed it: On an end note, was working on this calendar which actually syncs to local timezone and no one misses out,

Haven’t really been able to watch a single game this season bc I don’t have monumental 🙁 so I’m in the “waiting in line” part of the rollercoaster
It’s a long season. Cold and hot streaks are going to happen. It’s best not to overreact whether it’s good or bad.
Not to mention losing in overtime every single time we go to overtime is definitely a buzz kill. We need a goal scorer badly

Caps have one of the most consistent teams in the league. Relax.
You new to watching? There are 82 games. These are the normal ebbs and flows. Relax.

Girlfriend and I went to that game on the 23rd. She is the Capitals fan, I was there for the hockey. They actually did play about fifty minutes of hockey that night. The problem with that is that in the NHL, ten minutes usually is enough not only for your opponent to come from behind but also, it is sufficient time for him to *moidalize* you.
The New York game was proof of the latter. At the *filet désert* at 17:44, girlfriend had seen enough. I did not want to prolong her suffering so I agreed that we could go. As she was gathering her things, New York scored again; HUH? That and Goal Five, in particular, I had to wonder: *where* were the defencemen?
You must be new here lol
And they can’t get hyped for matinee games. Might be because Mama Lucia’s doesn’t open until noon or something.
