With the way this Jets season is ending, history is not on Aaron Glenn’s side

Perfect candidate to coach our rookie QB for 1 year before swapping to a new HC/OC to see how he does adapting to a new system 2 years in a row
Neither am I…
I think the realistic ending for Glenn is that they draft a rookie QB this year who looks promising, but the team is still a total shitshow so Glenn gets canned.
Then they can hire a top candidate because he’ll have free reign with the new QB.
Paywalled
With the state of the roster and no QB he’s got to be given 3 years to rebuild. Otherwise you’re wasting all these picks to be cut by a new regime in a year’s time.
Things blew up because of the lack of solid QB play. Tyrod was passable but the other 2 guys are outright shambolic.
The defense isn’t that talented, but there were games that were left on the table starting Fields and Cook.
The top priority is making sure we have a passable QB next year, then go from there.
I really thought this season was a free ball for Aaron Glenn, but virtually every aspect of the team besides the special teams looks significantly worse. You have to show some improvement or you’re on the way to being a DC/OC somewhere mid-next season
Two things are more than probable at this stage.
We draft a QB this year
AG isn’t here after the end of next season.
So, why would you let AG be included in the QB choice, but then you can’t not let him be involved.
Personally, I’m happy for a clean house and attract a offensive HC with our draft picks.
Truly don’t understand all the serious Glenn hate. Some of you guys are treating him like he stole your lunch money.
Yes because “top head coaching candidates” are going to be lining up to come to a dysfunctional franchise with the longest playoff drought in North American sports who just fired their head coach after 1 year. This is why I don’t come here and argue. Sports fans and in particular Jets fans are the lowest IQ dumbfucks walking the earth.
The perpetual rebuild continues
It would be absolutely foolish to fire him. So in other words, expect him to be canned.
Vibes are reaching Adam Gase levels, not a great start.
Would I like Glenn to be canned and be a one and done? Absolutely. But three coaches in three years, that optic alone may not allow us to get the best candidate. But then again, what is the value of keeping him one more year for due dilligence but pretty much having it at the back of your mind that he’s gone anyway. If we can luck out and follow the Caleb – Eberflus/Johnson or Maye – Mayo/Vrabel routes, then I’m all for it. But we HAVE to show progress next year and promise for our next QB. I’m iffy on the new coach/new QB from day one because how’d that work out for Wilks/Rosen, Kliff/Kyler, Saleh/Zach?
He’s not a high IQ head coach. But I’ll give him one more year to see what he’s got planned. No other HC wants to come here anyway
I feel like both things can be true that he’s severely underwhelming but the roster is so bad that not many coaches can do anything with it.
Did people really expect a winning record this season?
Yall really don’t know how contracts & business work. Aaron Glenn isn’t getting fired til year 4 minimum. They gave him a 5 year deal, as one of the highest paid coaches. The jets aren’t going to fire him after year 2 & still pay him for another 3 years while also paying another HC, it’s ain’t happening.
This is his team til 2027/2028 minimum.
Now is the time to fire him. We have a young talented OL, a number #1 receiver and a bevy of first rounders in the next couple of years. That should give us the plenty of quality options for HC. You can keep Mougey or not. I think he made decent trades and had an ok, but spotty draft. It’s fully ok to cut bait if you truly feel Glenn isn’t the guy, I’d rather do it now than in two years
Aaron Glenn was always a bad fit for this team from the start. A bottom 10 team on both sides of the ball that was downgrading at quarterback didnt need a motivational “culture changing coach”, the culture sucks because we frequently lose we aren’t frequently losing because our culture sucks. Woody and a lot of people bought into those buzzwords.
I have no idea how anybody can still buy in with Aaron Glenn next year. Steve Wilks has been this year’s scapegoat but what does it say about Aaron Glenn that he fucked up the defensive coordinator hiring so bad that Wilks had to be fired late season? Glenn is supposed to be a “CEO coach” but already has had two coaching malpractice games against the Broncos/Panthers this year. Glenn also thinks he is 1990s Bill Parcells with the way he handles the media, I dont care that he hurt the beat writers feelings but for fuck sake the precious “culture” you are always talking about needs you to be dull and lay low when you have this bad of a season as a rookie coach
To be nicer to Glenn I do think we’ve seen a little bit of progress regarding clock management and it is nice that a former player wants to coach here.
Since Glenn is coming back, next year Glenn simply cant have this bad of a defense and return in 2027, a defensive specialist not calling defensive plays can only get one mulligan on defensive coordinator.
You either fire him or give him an extension. Either commit or move on
I get that he has no QB, but he’s supposed to be a defensive guru and they don’t even have 1 interception. Players have regressed under his regime. Many of his hires aren‘t great. He seems inflexible. I was iffy on him when half of the Lions fan base were happy to be rid of him. I feel bad for him, but he looks completely out of his depth. We needed a Coach Cignetti type. I’ve said this before, a GM should’ve been hired before the coach.
He won’t be fired after the season because they paid him a lot and he’s Jets family, but this isn’t going to end well. If they do get a QB, I think they should rip the bandaid off and fire him. The problem is replacing him.
