Jaden McDaniels on guarding Jokic in overtime “Jokic, I mean I couldn’t really do nothing that Rudy couldn’t do so I mean, I don’t know, I can’t guard him. I was just the last man that was tall enough to be honest, there is no answer for him, I ain’t gonna lie”

  1. Jokic is just making an unassailable case for being one of the greatest ever. There’s barely 10 players I’d put ahead of Jokic all time FOR ME at this point.

But I need Jokic to be well rested for the playoffs and tear teams up.

  2. KAT is a bad defender, but historically, has held his own against Jokic all things considered. But yeah, nobody is fully shutting Jokic down for an entire game.

  3. There’s a severe lack of good individual post defenders with the size to defend players like Jokic and healthy Embiid.  Unlike the 90s and early 2000’s that kind of player isn’t exactly a necessity or priority in today’s more skilled, mobile and versatile game.

If Jokic wanted to, he could’ve easily avg 30 ppgs the last few season.  Most of the players guarding him are not only much shorter but about 50+ lbs less.

Add in his elite shooting touch and Jokic could probably come close to peak Embiid scoring volume.

  4. I want to see him get baited more into playing his passing game. Caruso did this for OKC last playoffs and it resulted in some turnovers. Youre gonna have to think next level with him. What pass Jokic is anticipating, whos open for him to make a play, how do you bait the “right” play, then swoop in for a steal or deflection. Obviously easier said then done and again, Caruso is one of the few players ive ever seen be successful doing this.

Other teams like the Lakers had their gameplan to just keep him out of the paint and as far away from the basket as possible. I think thats helps to some extent as well but Jokic vision and shooting ability is so elite it backfires.

  5. People don’t realize that the reason teams don’t always put their paint defending center 1 on 1 with Jokic is that he plays like a point guard at the top of the key/arc so he draws them out of the paint and opens so many more lanes to the basket for cutters and basically negates that team’s best rim protector’s presence on the floor. Also the Nuggets run tons of inverted pick and rolls for Jokic and most centers aren’t used to dodging screens like that.

That’s why the Wolves will put Randle on Jokic at the top of the key or why OKC was putting Caruso on him in last years playoffs.

There’s really no way to fully negate Jokic, you just kinda have to double team him in the paint and run a 2-big lineup for backup for his post play and cutters and hope his perimeter players aren’t hitting shots when he passes out

  6. I mean once we saw what he did to anthony Davis that one playoffs it was a wrap that anyone could guard this man. AD was ideally the best guy to defend him. Tall enough, strong enough, and quick on the perimeter but joker made him look like a fool.

  7. Man this guy Jaden can be in any starting 5 and make them better . Crazy how good he is.

  8. Should had purchase the same referee buff subscription that Caruso purchased when he guarded Jokic during the postseason.

  9. I know Jokic gets a lot of love but still can’t express how amazing it is to witness. like we’re seeing a potential top 5 all time player rn

  10. Slowing down the Joker? Easy. Just put prime Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan out there on the same defense and it may work…sometimes.

  11. Big men who can pass is one of the most unstoppable combinations in a basketball player – its so hard to interfere with their passing, and if you sag off of them they will punish you with size. Its why Jokic is one of the most potent offensive players of all time, if not the

  12. You need someone that built like Shaq and athletic like wemby to stop him cause he can be at any end of the floor making plays.

  13. It’s takes constant fouling by a guy like Caruso with the refs complicit.

Otherwise, he scores from three, in the lane, or at the rim, and if you double him he hits the open man with a pass.

  14. Only prime Garnet could slow down prime Jokic a little bit because he could chase him all around.

  15. I like him, he’s a plug and play guy who would help literally any team win a chip. He’s sacrificed a lot of his offensive game to watch Ant Chuck 3s. I would like to see how he did on another contending team, seems like a winner
