Arsenal have enjoyed a strong start to the season and secured their 13th Premier League victory of the campaign on Saturday as they overcame Brighton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. And Mikel Arteta’s side will end the weekend with a two-point lead at the top of the table.
Arteta has been able to rely on a host of players throughout the campaign as he has rotated his side at times to deal with the congested fixture list. But there are some players who appear to have fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium. And Express Sport looks at four players who may never get another opportunity to show what they can do in an Arsenal shirt.
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Nottingham Forest on loan in the summer but has endured an injury-hit campaign. The 29-year-old was named on the bench against Manchester City on Saturday but failed to make it onto the pitch and just hasn’t had enough football since switching to the City Ground.
The Ukraine international is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer and looks unlikely to earn a new contract after falling down the pecking order at left-back.
Reiss Nelson
Reiss Nelson is another player currently out on loan after agreeing to move to Brentford at the end of the summer transfer window.
Like Zinchenko, his campaign has been heavily disrupted and he has featured for just 34 minutes in the Premier League for the Bees.
Nelson would struggle to command game time in north London these days. And Arteta could attempt to move him on to another club in a permanent deal during next summer’s transfer window.
Jakub Kiwior
Jakub Kiwior is a player Arteta turned to regularly as recently as last season, with the Poland international starting his side’s final eight Premier League matches in the absence of Gabriel.
But the 25-year-old was sent to Porto on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, with his Gunners boss seemingly happy with the other options he has at the Emirates Stadium.
Porto have an obligation to buy Kiwior at the end of the campaign, so he may never represent Arsenal again.
Fabio Vieira
Arsenal had high hopes for Fabio Vieira when the midfielder rocked up in the capital in July 2022.
But the 25-year-old has failed to live up to expectations under Arteta and was told a year ago that he would be able to leave the club after being put up for sale by the Gunners’ transfer chiefs.
Vieira is currently on loan at Hamburg, with little indication that he will ever feature in Arteta’s plans in the future.
