Of course you'd expect to find the most ball-dominant guards leading the league in TOs/game. In the top 25, you can find Luka (leading the way by a mile), Cade, Castle, Brown, Mitchell, Curry, Ant, etc. Missing conspicuously are Brunson and SGA. Brunson is actually 48th according to ESPN at 2.2. Shai is 59th at 2.0.

Quickley also happens to be low on the list (73rd at 1.8) but that might be because the ball is often in the hands of BI and Barnes who are both in the top 25.

TOs are a stat that never come up in MVP/All-NBA discussions, but they're as game-changing as any stat you can find. They often lead to at least 2 points the other way and swing the entire momentum of the game. It took me watching Luka play last night and give up 8 TOs, many just lazy passes, to really appreciate what we have.

  2. Not trying to hate – love Brunson. But part of the reason for this is he is a very risk adverse passer. He rarely if ever throws lobs or “threading the needle” type passes.

    That’s not a bad thing – he values taking care of the ball more than the risk/reward type of passes.

    You can compare it to Kolek for example, who will turn it over at a higher rate because he’s forcing some higher risk passes.

  3. Knicks have generally taken care of ball since Brunson arrived. Mikal is also having career high in AST and has very very low TO rate.

  4. Damn he really is putting together an actual mvp season. Cup mvp should really count towards it too and be the edge.

  5. In the rare cases Brunson does turn the ball over it’s usually because the refs are letting the defenders physically assault him at the half court line lol.

  7. I feel like Brunson and SGA are scorers first. Moreso than the others. It’s a bit unfair.

  8. A 3:1 AST:TO ratio for a superstar (especially one who gets defended as physically and pressed as much as Brunson) is pretty insane. I definitely agree.
