Mike Brown: “I don’t know if we’re tired or what, but we have not been able to sustain anything defensively for 48 minutes. And we’ve won a lot of games… but at the end of the day if we don’t figure out how to sustain…it’s going to be a long year for us and it’s going to eventually catch up to us.

  1. Truth. Get to work. The potential is there. Like he said, just needs to be a 48min buy in

Look at SA last night, they played *lock down* perimeter defense in the second half. That’s where we gotta be

  2. Question: Is there a tendency to say “we have Jalen, we’ll win this no matter what” and maybe let your foot off the pedal a little bit?

Brown: “At times. Guys think “We’re good, we’re gonna end up winning this and outscore them”. That’s not the mentality to have. There has to be a sense of urgency defensively… We can score with the best of them.. I just hope that sooner than later, our guys collectively want to sustain the right way to play on the defensive end of the floor. When you play the way we play defensively, which is in spurts, you’re gonna keep giving a team hope.

We’re up and we’re like “Ok we’re good”, and then we have 3 or 4 just bad defensive plays in a row. Like “I’m just gonna jog through this action and trail this guy who’s hot and then he shoots a wide open three”. Or “I’m not gonna pull all the way in and tag the roll guy. I’m just gonna stay right here”. It’s stuff like that that’s in our control that we don’t control… I truly believe the guys care and want to do the right thing, but we just haven’t done it and we need to go do it.

  3. San Antonio plays pretty scrappy wear em down defense too. Not having Mitch to match Wemby before hey got hurt, also sucked.

  4. To me it looks like at times that they are playing with such pace offensively and they looked a little gassed when playing defense

  5. Why not expand the rotation permanently if you’re worried about defensive effort? That way you can give the starters minutes to the young guys when the starters stop hustling. Sounds like good motivation to me.

Isn’t the league shifting towards playing more guys in shorter bursts anyways? If we have the personnel to do it, why not do it?

  6. He’s not wrong, but I’m hoping he realizes that this is **his** problem to solve.

The reality is the best player on our roster can’t reliably guard anyone half decent in the NBA. That’s what Mike Brown needs to figure out come the playoffs – gotta have some sort of aggregate solution to offset the fact that every good team in the NBA knows exactly what our defensive weaknesses are and they all expose them with relative ease.

  7. McBride should start.

It provides POA defense, and could increase the pace.

Have Hart and Mitch as the 6th and 7th men, when we need more rim protection, versatility, or rebounding, as well as shortening the guard rotation between Kolek, Shamet, Clarkson and Hart.

  8. They have Hart or Mitch they win the game easily. Not often this team loses the game on the glass. That being said, that last defensive possession was atrocious but that’s going to happen when you have Clarkson on the floor in crunch time.

  9. If thibs didn’t wear out the guys last season this wouldn’t be an issue!!!!!!1 /s

  10. The only reason he’s being so candid about this is because he’s probably said it multiple times in the locker room

  11. Thanks for calling this pathetic effort on the defensive end Mike. It was embarrassing seeing how many open 3s we have to Champagene and the others. We’ve been absolutely dogshit on defense for most of the season.

Our offense is fine but we ain’t winning shit with this defense and it starts with Towns. He’s been godawful and needs to be benched if he ain’t giving the effort.

  12. Mike played Yabu more minutes than needed. Mo and Mccullar shouldve been on the floor more in 3rd quarter if we were serious about trying to win.

  13. No Mitch no hart an it took a career nite from a bench guy I ain’t even mad at that loss
