Kelvin Sheppard on the defensive scheme

  1. By no means am I hoping for this, but would be hilarious if he said this, only to get fired and completely change the scheme.

I don’t blame shep tho, Injuries after injuries will make any DC job almost impossible, especially with a few holes when fully healthy

  2. i was all in on shep but man, you have to adapt. kinda want to see us bring in two new coordinators this offseason

  3. We’ve ran the same man to man, heavy blitz for pressure for the last 4 years and it always disappoints us lol.

  4. Even if changes are coming, hes not going to talk about them in week 18 of this season.

  5. It will be interesting to see how this team adapts to the failure of this season because they’ve been very stubborn up until now

  6. Damn Shep. I was hoping u learned from the mistake of this season. But looks like u haven’t learned.

  7. We’re going to look at everything and everyone

No, not the DC. Not this coach either. No, that player is our guy. The scheme? No, not changing that either.

  8. I don’t expect drastic changes to the defensive performance than.

Offense will have to keep scoring 30+ to stand a chance

  9. Rest of the league is running zone shells and we’re running cover 1 blitz’s like we’re Don Brown in 2016. Really hope this isnt Dans downfall

  10. Then it’s time for him to go. We need change, and it’s predictable.

Or, he’s just saying this to throw everyone off. Time will tell, looks like we are locked in for next year with Shep?

  11. Good for him. I am manifesting Kelvin Sheppard as a linebackers coach in the AFC after Black Monday. Bye bye!

  12. Well then he needs to be looking for a new place to run that scheme, because that scheme fucking sucks

  13. Dan needs to be willing to adapt. I have to believe this is the scheme he wants to run and part of the reason he opted for “consistency” on defense was to keep the same scheme. I want to believe when they say they’re going to evaluate everything that the scheme is part of everything, but only time will tell.

  14. That is a big problem. It worked like 2 games out of the year against teams at or under 500. We’re trying to copy the Browns without good DBs or pass rush. It doesn’t fucking work.

  15. LMAO get ready for year six of major man to man coverage with a blitz package that barely pressures the QB at all.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Either DC and his staff are stubborn as hell, don’t have the knowledge to run a scheme that has consistent success in the modern NFL, or just plain insane.

  16. DC was too stubborn to fire AG when this scheme clearly wasn’t working even before all the injuries. And dont give me the “we had all these injuries” crap. Outside of running a scheme that wears out our secondary, other teams deals with injures as well. Good coaches and coordinators find ways to scheme around this and minimize the losses. The Lions don’t do this. We still play man to man more than any other team and constantly get torched.

AG should have realistically been fired two years before he left, but didn’t because he’s DC’s buddy. DC is too stubborn to demote or fire Shep in favor of a veteran coordinator who could bring more variety to the table. Like why the hell is Hutch always starting on the ground when he had a ton of success in college starting upright? Little things like this to attempt to change things up.

  17. Hopefully we seriously think about replacing both coordinators and evolving the philosophy. I’m not say we have to fire Shep but if he doesn’t fit where we need to go, he needs to go.

  18. We’d like to thank Kelvin Sheppard for his contributions to the Detroit Lions and wish him well in his future endeavors.

  19. This coaching staff is REALLY riding the line between confidence and arrogance…

I love MCDC but maybe its time for a bit of humility.

  20. Can’t wait for year 5 of linebackers being asked to cover on obvious passing downs

  21. I just want to see us get rid of the stupid delay blitz. That shit never works. Either bring pressure, or be in coverage, but it is pointless for our linebackers to just fake blitz and then just hang out for 3 seconds before rushing in.

  22. Kind of want him gone, the best defensive coordinators are all failed former head coaches.

  23. This organization first says it’ll look at everything but in reality they’re so stubborn that they’ll run it back, so delusional. Same scheme, players, etc. this regime is stating to crater

  24. The hubris of this front office, despite not doing a damn thing, will keep us as the NFCN Steelers.

  25. That damn scheme requires an elite secondary to compete properly, we’ve been getting lit up and decimated every damn game against a good offense and they dont envision any changes? Son of a bitch there’s no reason to be stubborn when we’ve been ASS and the reason we aren’t in the playoffs is on the dogshit exposed defense.
