"Whatever my future may hold, I don't want to make that decision now 'cause I don't want to make it emotionally," the 32-year-old said on Wednesday. "I don't have a timeline on any of that, but I do have some things that I'm going to have to figure out to see where l'm at. But as of right now, I'm just operating business as usual."

  1. I mean I get it. He and I are same age and same size and I feel aches and pains daily and I don’t even play ball

  2. If he’s going to retire, say so sooner rather than later so we can start thinking about adjustments

  3. I mean for his health he probably should retire. Health and well being for the rest of your life is more important than playing sports

  4. Just make your final decision before the draft.

Either way, he shouldn’t be LT next year. Penei should move over from RT to LT.

  5. Guy has been a baller for us. Good on him either way. Thanks for the blood, Deck.

  6. I saw this coming. We need to draft a replacement for him and a center immediately.

  7. Hopefully his nagging injuries can calm down this offseason and he can finish his career the way he wants to.

All in all its a pretty good year to need a Tackle with a mid round pick and we might even be able to get an nfl starting center in the 2nd this year with 2 or 3 projected starters in the class. Trouble is we still have a need at DE, probably at Will LB and now because of injuries, maybe corner and Safety and TE too and we only have 2 picks where we should count on getting starters. It will be an interesting offseason but this decision to retire will be huge

  8. Lions will hopefully lose sunday and maybe get 12 overall pick.

That pick could possibly land them the 2nd best OT in draft; Mauigoa or Fano

It would kind of be perfect to replace a long time 1st round pick with another 1st round OT pick.

I am sure Brad will draft a WR or a NT instead but atleast I can dream

  9. Remind me in 8 months how the Lions organization was completely blindsided by Taylor Decker retiring and made no effort to find his replacement in the offseason

  10. Was pretty obvious that he was nearing the end which is why it was so maddening that Holmes halfassed his final year

Holmes inherited two pro bowl o lineman and first draft had an all pro tackle fall to us and then proceeded to basically do nothing to add long term to it for 4 years before drafting a RG in the second near the last years of Deckers career

Shoot the only other long term contracts were Jackson and Vaitai who were Bob Quinn signings so it’s just been PS cycling

I don’t want to hear anymore about building through the trenches when Holmes had a gifted O line and then proceeded to watch it age out

  11. I really wanted a super bowl win for him more than anyone else, he’s been here through all the bs Patricia days and has been a steady rock at LT for us.

That said we should be moving on from him either way. Draft a T in round 1 and take the 18 mill in savings and put it to acquiring Linderbaum.

  12. Dude needs to look out for himself. Not a single soul can fault him for that as his health must take priority.

Just please, a bit of head’s up before FA and draft my good sir?

  13. Please do it… like now kinda? So we can be ready; clearly we weren’t ready for Ragnow

EDIT: I don’t blame the guy, not mad at him, he’s played his heart out. Deserves every bit of retirement

  14. thank you for your service Decker! Please retire, enjoy the rest of your time with your family, you’ve earned it.

  15. If you watch the video of the interview, Decker’s voice cracks a couple times. Seemed very much like he was fighting to hold his emotions in. Definitely gave the impression that he knows he’s going to retire, but doesn’t want to make the announcement before the final game and have that extra attention.

  16. Irrespective, we need a first round Tackle around pick 15, there are several that will be available as four are projected to be in the first round. Get a FA Center as well, multiple also available.

  17. Cool, so unless Manu is ready to be our new OT we’re yet again trying to play catchup with our OL.

  18. Least surprising news. Between him and Ragnow, I thought Deck would have retired first.

  19. I mean I get it, I can only imagine the kind of pain the body goes through by this age in the nfl for linemen. But does he really wanna end on this kinda season? I hope he sticks around if only as a back up

  20. Need even more Oline draft picks or FA moves now. If they draft something like a WR or RB im gonna be kinda pissed. Even if Monty leaves, throw Vaki in there since Brad loved him so much, oh wait he’s a safety, oh wait he’s special teams, oh wait he’s injured. Sorry for the rant, go lions

  21. As they say over in England and Europe, dude has been a servant to the club. I really wish we could have gotten some hardware with him. He’s showing his age now, but dude is a Lions legend.
