[MKC] Browns will discuss Kevin Stefanski’s job status through the weekend; GM Andrew Berry is safe

This feels a lot more like a mutual situation where the Browns aren’t sure if Kevin wants to be here and Kevin isn’t sure if Haslam wants him to be here. Could definitely go either way, I think.
Quit fucking with my emotions and fire this loser already.
Every time I start to have hope in the future I see some quibbling bullshit like this, goddamn I can’t wait until Monday.

So as to not flood the sub with articles saying the same things, there’s also this article form Rapoport/Pelissero:
> Everyone in Cleveland has been frustrated with the results over the past two seasons. But owner Jimmy Haslam has planned to wait for the final results – including Sunday’s game against Cincinnati – before finalizing any decisions.
> It’s rare for a two-time NFL Coach of the Year to have his job in question. But that’s the reality for Kevin Stefanski, who along with GM Andrew Berry helped restore order and respectability to Cleveland. Both received contract extensions after the team’s playoff appearance in 2023; the Browns are 7-26 since.
> The question ownership must ask now is, have they given people they believe in – namely a coach in Stefanski who would immediately become a candidate elsewhere – the best opportunity to succeed?
> A revolving door at quarterback, including the 2022 mega-trade and contract for Deshaun Watson that Haslam acknowledged last March was “a big swing-and-miss”, have been a driving force behind Cleveland’s struggles. This was always going to be a transition year. And there’s reason for hope, with one of the NFL’s best rookie classes, a QB in Shedeur Sanders who has progressed under the tutelage of Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, and two first-round picks in 2026. Last week’s win over the division rival Steelers was encouraging for a team that hasn’t given up.
> The expectation is that Browns brass will regroup on Monday before deciding how to proceed.
Ah Berry escaping the consequences of the god awful rosters he’s stuck Stef with is why this org is doomed.
Good luck finding a qualified candidate to take this HC job with the messes AB has left all over the place lol
Edit: if you want to fire Stef, fine, but AB better be going as well.
I’m not a Stefanski fan, but if I were him, I’d want out of here as quickly as possible, especially while my stock as a HC candidate is relatively high. Berry deserves more blame for compiling an embarrassing offense and his handling of the quarterback position has been abysmal. I would not want my future tied to a GM who continues to get a free pass heading into a critical off season where the future of the offense is going to be sculpted, for better or worse.
I expected Berry to be gone. Because dumping him after his last draft would absolutely be the type of thing the Browns would do.

*Last draft doing some heavy lifting,*
Don’t be shocked if Kevin stays
I think Kevin wants out, and the Browns are equally good with him leaving. Like a mutual agreement.
I think Kevin has been given a raw deal when it comes to talent on offense. There just isn’t any. He has a JV team and there isn’t much you can do about that.
I believe the Flacco trade was a bigger deal than it seemed. All of a sudden Kevin’s already stunted team was left with 0 veteran leadership in the QB room. It was obvious it was a last minute thing. We then went on to get killed by the Steelers a day later.
Flacco wasn’t playing well, it was bad, but I’m sure Kevin felt like he was put in an even worse situation.
I think it’s time to move on and I think the Browns being unhappy with results and Kevin being unhappy with how things have been going up front will mutually separate
They’d be stupid to fire Kevin at this point, that’s why I think they’ll do it.
I don’t like Kevin as a person (“I checked with my wife and daughters”) or a coach(the incessant need for “trickery” that everyone sees coming a mile away, among other things), but I don’t think there’s a better option out there, some goof like McDaniel or hot head like Flores aren’t going to help out situation. And all the changes at coordinator positions that could come with it would really upset whatever illusion of balance the team may currently have.
I personally like Kevin and think he’ll do well wherever he goes, I’ll be sad if he does go but I can understand it from either side. And it also really depends on who comes in after him, a change up might be good for the org but it could also end awfully depending on who gets hired.
So Berry was the main person behind getting DW4 and Stefanski had nothing to work with… yet KS is on the chopping block ?? Unbelievable.
Considering how much money Berry has spent these last five years it’s amazing his job is so safe.
Stefanski is tired of expending the energy trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. For his own sanity, he needs to get out of this shit show and coach in a more stable situation. No coach would be successful here with the quarterback carousel the last few years. The fact that he took us to the playoffs with 5 different quarterbacks is nothing short of amazing. He will go somewhere else and be coach of the year again.
MKC’s article references the Browns, Stefanski, and his agent working this weekend to see if they can hash things out and come to a meeting of the minds. This sounds like either they want to restructure and have Kevin report to Andrew or are trying to dictate his staff and he’s not having it.
ETA: What if this is like the Baker situation when he heard they were talking to Watson and said I’m done? Maybe Kevski heard they were researching replacements and said I’m out and now they’re trying to convince him to stay since they realized the coaching pool is terrible this year.
Watson broke this team. I may have to root for someone else.
I don’t blame Kevin if he wants out. I will be pissed if berry remains here when Kevin had to take the heat for not only his coaching decisions but have to deal with the personnel choices that Berry made while Berry hid away somewhere.
I think Kev wants out, which makes the rest irrelevant. Prepare yourselves for the announcement of a “mutual parting of ways.”
Y’all mad at this? Wait until y’all see who’s QB1 next season 😂
These comments are brain rot. Browns need Kev bc they aren’t getting any other serious HC out there.
Here is the thing that folks are forgetting, Stef couldn’t make it work with Baker and that is the reason why we went after DW in the first place. Every QB is gonna be a drama queen of some degree and you gotta learn to deal with it.
absurd
yup Kev’s gone. Berry stays
Berry had one good draft but that doesn’t make up for all the bad ones + Watson trade/contract
