Rielly was on the ice for the three goals against in the 3rd and OT and just looks completely lost out there

Morgan Rielly leaves Schaefer wide open in the slot and Schaefer scores the OT winner.

  1. Rielly’s been awful, but Woll had no business playing that puck. Freeze it so you can get at least one of them off the ice. Instead, they got it halfway up the ice then got caved in their own end and this happened.

Both things can be true. I’d start Hildeby against Florida.

  2. That was all on Rielly. Knies had Barzal so Schaeffer was his man. Time to move on from him. He can’t defend anymore. Please waive your NMC.

  3. Absolutely zero hockey iq on Morgan these days. It’s like watching an AI defensemen in chel.

  4. Major Rielly brain fart- you can see him processing slowly *“oh knies caught up with him… oh it’s OT and that means a guy is open… perhaps I should look for the guy”* but it’s way too late. Guy is such a drag on the team for a massive AAV. I know everyone loves Mo and he’s a great guy but you can’t be -15 on the season as the top D who is on PP1. That’s just messed up.

  5. Rielly -4 in a 4-3 loss.

Fucking shades of Brett Lebda -3 in a 9-3 victory. He’s earned some press box time.

  6. locking down rielly is dubas’ biggest blunder. that dude hasnt been good since he scored 20 and even then. still questionable.

  7. In OT on that last line change I said “ok, here comes Rielly, game over”. I hate that it was correct.

  8. I know it’s partly confirmation bias… but every time I see a Leafs defender with bad gap control or getting completely dog walked or blowing coverage, I’m just like awww fuck I bet that was Rielly, huh? AND IT ALWAYS IS…

  9. Morgan Rielly is just not that smart, it’s not even skill wise it’s hockey IQ. So many times he ices the puck for no reason or just abandons his man, it’s like he’s a rookie with no idea how to play this game

  10. need to find a way to get rid of him at the end of this season. nice guy but he sucks at hockey

  11. That’s honestly on Woll. His team was gassed and all he had to do was freeze the puck.

  12. Rielly made a bad read yes but Woll needed to cover that puck. He had three tired players in Rielly, Domi and McMann and blindly tossed it to a tired Rielly. Three tired guys against Islanders fresh players and this is the type of thing that happens.

  13. Bad play but he was on for about 2 mins and will decided to play the puck. Zero awareness from Woll after playing poorly in regulation. 2 games in a row he hasn’t helped the squad at all

  14. We are NEVER winning anything with Reily on this team. He’s absolutely a liability out there. He’s like when the Raptors had DeRozan on their team. He’s bad luck or something

  15. Kind of a tough one cause Knies was caught so Mo had to cut the forward off but as soon as Knies caught up he needed to move back over to the other forward. Nice pass though.

  16. Knies slaps Barzal’s stick but didn’t get in front of him until Barzal started turning for the pass. There’s no way Reilly gets to the open man at this point, of course. But if Rielly didn’t stay in front of Barzal he was giving him an open lane straight to the net and you’d be complaining about that.

    Look.

Just take a moment.. breathe.. and LOOK AT IT.

Yes, Reilly sucks and deserves a ton of criticism. But pick your battles. Sucks to lose but, again, you’d absolutely be in here complaining Reilly “didn’t even try” to stop Barzal when Knies was clearly still behind him slashing away. Knies doesn’t ever get in front of Barzal until it’s too late for Reilly to change course. And the only reason Knies gets in front is because Reilly slows Barzal down and takes away his lane to force the pass..

It’s the nature of 3 on 3.. lots of damned if you do and damned if you don’t moments like this that accelerate the end of the hockey game by design..

  17. Based on how poorly we played in the 3rd, I’m just happy we salvaged a point tonight to keep the point streak going.

  18. I mean, yeah bad play by the leafs. But honestly the guy with the puck is Riellys guy… The back checker should have grabbed Schaef Daddy.

  19. Why can’t management see what clearly everyone else sees. Our D without Reilly improves. Enough is enough good fukn bye !

  20. So Doug Armstrong scouted Schaefer and said, Canada easily has 7 better defensemen.

  21. Rielly is just getting older and as he does, he’s becoming more and more “reactive” as opposed to proactive. He won’t out skate someone to a corner or near boards. He’d rather wait for the forward to get the puck and then he decides what to do. Tie up the player? Stick check? Something most times is ineffective and causes more problems than helping.

Even whatever offensive upside he used to have is long gone. His passes are telegraphed and if he takes a shot, usually a weak wrister that’s way off the mark. Yes, sometimes his shot is actually a rebound pass off the back boards (that might work 1 out of 100 tries).

Either way, he doesn’t play like an 8 million dollar dman. I think scratching him a game or 2 might give him the wake up call he needs. Maybe.

    Minus 4 isn’t a good look.

  22. Rielly has single handedly lost us multiple games this year.

Guys washed, time to move on in the off season. I’d move him now but the NMC complicates thing. Thanks Kyle!
