Should the rule be changed?

  1. Ok sure let’s do it. How would you change the system? Or are you just dead set on complaining like everyone else while refusing to offer solutions?

  2. I’ve always just said re-seed them. I don’t have a problem with division winners making the playoffs. But I don’t really see why they should host a playoff game just because of that. They should be seeded differently.

  3. No. It is a game, let it have its quirks. Plus it helps keep division rivalries relevant.

  4. I love when teams with losing records make the playoffs. Now I kinda want to see the Panthers win it all

  5. No, you win your division, you’re in.
This is how the underdog Seattle Seahawks beat the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints 41-36.
Seahawks where 7-9, and made the playoffs because they were the top of their division. Saints were a Wildcard Team at 11-5 because ATL won their div that year, so had to come to Seattle for the game.

(yes, this was the Beastquake game)

  6. I mean, it’s not like the Panthers are screwing a team that deserved to go to the playoffs out of a spot this year.

  7. If you change the rules to best record then you have to get rid of divisions because they are useless at that point

  8. If eagles get knocked out im 100% rooting for panthers to go all the way. Them winning makes the most sense for this nonsense season for the league

  9. This has happened 4 times before (including the Panthers once before). Those playoff team with losing records are 2-4 in the playoffs, and the Panthers are one of the two wins.

Idk what my point is but the rule is perfect as is.

  10. No. Winning your division still should matter. The only thing that needs to go away is having this topic come up every single time it happens.

  11. Nope because you would lose the importance of divisions essentially killing history rivalries

  12. What rule? That division winners make the playoffs? Fuck no. The NFL playoff system is perfect

  13. They can’t. If you don’t automatically get a playoff spot by winning your division, there’s no real point to there being divisions.

  14. Absolutely not. Divisions are pointless otherwise. And division titles are a fun smaller goal to strive for that’s a more achievable goal than a Super Bowl.

And besides, the parity is high enough in the NFL that it’s not like Carolina is gonna be a guaranteed win for anyone that plays them.

It’s not super common, but the 2010 Seahawks and 2014 panthers come to mind as sub-.500 teams that won a playoff game.

  15. It makes it really hard to add new teams, unless like 8 are added at the same time. I’d say get rid of divisions.

  16. At that point though what’s the point of divisions? Do we just shuffle the NFL every year based on conference? Eventually people will start complaining why is this NFC/AFC team getting in with a worse record so we need to get rid of conferences too.
