You can tell how much this night affected him. But amazing job by him to decide to sit there and answer the dozen questions without lashing out at the fans.
Time to let it all go and move forward as a united front
I appreciate Rupp’s comments on the postgame after they showed this.
To summarize, he says, that after a tough game or a game where the mistakes were yours or the loss was on you, a player has every right to say “no, I’m not talking to the media”, but Luke stepped up and decided to take the questions and answer for his play.
Rupp mentions that this is a 22 year old who is a stud now and will be a stud in the future. Rupp said he showed gumption for doing the media.
Imagine being a 22 year old player with a high ceiling, sitting at 0.6ppg on your career and then a bunch of drunk 40 year olds who can’t skate decide to boo you on a Sunday night game, and cheer when you get hit. lmao
Granted, I don’t like he said it was lucky on Hall’s play. Doesn’t really indicate learning.
Edit: clarity
I feel so bad for the guy. Anyone can have an off night. Having the fanbase turn on Luke the way they did tonight is fucking brutal. Shame on our fans.
I feel for the kid, he’s clearly upset, and kudos to him for doing the interview.
This feels like when Kovalchuk lost the puck in the shootout and then was unstoppable after that. Hoping for some of the same here from Luke. Need more from the guy with a $9M/year contract
Booing your own team is just dumb, but I get the frustration in general. Luke hasn’t impressed at all this year so he likely has a shorter leash with fans prone to boo. Would be different if he was typically dominate and had an off game.
I’ve lost a lot of confidence in his future potential and question how much we have invested in him. It payed off for Jack but it almost feels like we gave Luke the money because of Jack and not because of who he was as an individual player. Dangerous but I hope he figures it out or has a better year next season.
Good on him for doing the interview. I’d like for him to show a bit more openness to his mistakes. Though I suppose being booed in an arena with 20000 fans could close one off. The video coaches need to help him out here. He makes too many risky plays in front of the net, isn’t hard enough with his breakout passes and could be quicker passing in general. These may fly sometimes, but when your playing dialed teams, especially in the playoffs, they’re likely gonna figure those weeknesses out. Hopefully he takes this opportunity to learn because he’s got a poop ton of potential
I love this kid. He’s 22. He’s eating monster minutes against tough assignments. He moves pucks. He pots two in the wrong net and comes out for an interview like a man. All while living in the shadow of his two older brothers who just got named to the national team. He’ll take this on the chin and get better, and the shit-for-brains fans who booed him all game won’t deserve him.
He deserved to be booed. He does not play like a player picked 4th overall in the draft
Proud of Luke.
you know whats better about asking him about the errors, watching him get a little emotional about it? asking him about it 5 more times.
I am in no way against booing your own players. In fact I think they deserve it sometimes
But booing him all night every time he touched the puck was lame imo. Booing him once sent a message.
Carolina’s got a tough team, even with their injuries. They’re tenacious and very well coached. This was probably Luke’s worst game of his career, but it’s a regular season game. Use it as a springboard to get better.
Im more mad about the PP not succeeding.
Fuck all you booing tonight.
Listen to this guy.
“I’ve played good hockey for 41 games this year.”
“Just a lucky stick, I’ve made that play a million times.”
Zero accountability. Zero. THAT’S why you’re being boo’d, not because of two bad plays. You can sit there and say “I’ve gotta be better” all you want but you obviously don’t believe it. And we see right through it.
I was okay with the fist boo, but the whole game was crazy excessive.
Really wish there was a magic solution to making the entirety of the fanbase better, but there’s a ton of Facebook fans out there that still perpetuate Flyers swallowing and Crosby watching so wishful thinking on my part. Wholeheartedly agree that booing him all night is a good way to make sure he’s disengaged beyond last night.
