John Gibson shines, while Ottawa’s goaltending struggles in Red Wings win over Senators

John Gibson was great again for Detroit, while Ottawa’s goaltending was just as advertised. James van Riemsdyk had three points. Michael Rasmussen scored Detroit’s 1st shorthanded goal of the season. Lucas Raymond scored his 1st 5v5 goal since 11/29. Red Wings win. #LGRW

    Been rusty/hurt, last 5.

With team-best on-ice analytics over this time. Why is this player being singled out for punishment, again? Seems like a guy you'd want to get more on the ice with good players in big situations, not less.

  2. It's interesting. Indeed Gibson won this for the Wings. But thinking back on the first 10-15 games of this season, it seems that Detroit was on the losing end of amazing goaltending (and close scoring games) on behalf of the opponents. What goes around comes around. As you guys said – we don't care how pretty it is, let's take the win! Glad they bounced back today. LGRW!

  3. Thank you guys, always a pleasure to listen/watch!
Regarding the pronunciation of Eddie Genborg's last name, as a swede I'll try to help: Yeenbory. We have soft and hard G's in Sweden, and in his name, both are soft and turns into how a Y would sound for you 'Muricans. Can't think of a better comparison than how the Y sounds in "Yeah". So the last Y in my attempt is another Yeah-sounding Y, but stopped right at the first syllable. Good luck! 😅
    Here's a Swede pronouncing the name: https://youtu.be/WeMxWBwKQZQ?t=24

  4. Scottie with the daily/momentary GOATs lol. JVR has poise. The line shuffling exposed things we already knew, but it's only one game, so far.

  5. I'm glad we finally got the shorty. Even if it was from the biggest anchor on this team. That said, we have a huge problem when playing with the lead. We tend to sit back in our zone, which we can't afford to do bc our D core is still awful. One 60 minute game is all I ask for. Just one…

  6. I live on the east coast and didn't get to see the game. It's apparent fronm listebning to the podcast that Ottawa outplayed the Wings. What was wrong with the wuings game? Are they still not playing good defenbse/ What about the battles in the corners and puck control? And how about the faceoffs? Were the wings just lucky to get this win? Thank you guys.

  7. Watching that game, though, you've got to be concerned about our play in the D zone against a big, strong, fast team that's heavy on the forecheck. In other words, the brand of hockey that helps you win in the playoffs. Had a tough time clearing the zone for long stretches. Gibby saved the game.

We should beat the Canucks on Thursday, but the next three will be a great test: at Montreal, the Canes at home, and at Boston Gardens. Carolina, especially because of how good they are, their style, and how poorly we played them last time. They're a better version of the Sens.

But hey, at least we're competitive and finding ways to score. It's fun being a hockey fan in Detroit again. The product on the ice is good and trending upward.

  8. Please elaborate on why the wings were so much outplayed in this game? It's great that Gibson is playing so good in the pipes but do we need to depend on that to get this win? The shot total was poor so it makes me wonder that the Wings won this game because of the poor goal tending by OIttawa. I'm happy for the win but that was not a formnula for success. Thank you guys. Ray L
