D-DPM (Defensive Daily Plus-Minus) is an advanced basketball statistic from the DARKO model that estimates a player's defensive impact, measuring points allowed per 100 possessions.
Sucks to see Key dead last with all the leaps he’s made offensively this season. It’s also not great to see that none of the rest of those players are “winning guards” in this league. I want nothing more than to see the Jazz win something, but with how important athleticism and defense have become in this league, this makes me hesitant to include Keyonte in some of the conversations I’ve seen him in this year.
It at least makes me skeptical of projecting him as a Top 30 player anytime soon, as we have to think about both sides of the ball.
Please don’t call me a KG hater because I’m not, just wanted to start the conversation and see if it reflects what the eye test has been showing you guys this season?
Go Jazz!

If he’s gonna be getting paid big money he’s gonna have to become closer to an average defender.
Trade KeyNope before it’s too late
More so because there’s no other defenders on the team. Walker is out, so Keyonte gets easily targeted. I think it won’t be a problem for us if we acquire defenders in free agency to place around Key
Yeah i believe it
My opinion of advanced defensive stats is heavily influenced by Brad Stevens. Whenever a coach sent an email containing advanced defensive stats he just moved it to garbage.
You can absolutely be a top 30 player without being a good defender. It’s just a lot more difficult (but still not impossible) to be a top 10 one.
I don’t put much stock in defensive advanced stats. Defense is too hard to quantify. Yes, Keyonte is bad defensively. I doubt he’s actually the worst in the league, just in the big soup of “bad defensively guards”.
He looked much better at the beginning of the year when he had a real rim protector, and has had flashes since too. So there’s hope, he just needs more consistent effort on that side. I’m ok with the focus being on offense for now, it’s hard to ask a 22 year old to improve literally every aspect of his game all at the same time.
And bro 6’4 😬
I’m surprised half the jazz team isn’t up there. It feels like every night we allow 130
He’s probably the only guy on the list besides the Kings players who legit has no second level of protection at the rim, so when guys blow by him they’re gonna score basically 100% of the time compared to others. That said, yeah we been knew he needed to step it up on that end and I’d say eye test weirdly feels like he’s at least exceeded the very low bar that he previously set though it’s still very bad. He takes less plays off and it at least seems like he’s trying harder.
I hope he can improve so he doesn’t become a Trey Young type player for us
He’s gotta get better on D, cause that list (for the most part) is a real who’s who of guys you don’t want on your team if you care about winning.
I’m kinda with you, but you have people like Luka and Trae Young that are terrible defenders and nobody seems to mind. Hope that Keyonte gets better on defense tho
