[Shams] Trae Young has the Washington Wizards as his top preferred trade destination, sources tell ESPN. Atlanta is working to move Young, who has a $49 million player option in offseason that would make him an expiring contract; or opt out, leave and give Hawks significant cap space.
WHAT is Dawkins saying to all these players to make them want to play here? He might be the most charismatic man on earth
So this is really happening huh? Not sure how I feel about it but hopefully Trae has a mysterious “injury” for the rest of the season that completely heals after we get a top 3 pick.
Yeah, this is 100% happening. Dawkins managed to flip Bradley Beal ultimately for a shed load of draft capital and Trae Young. Someone needs to update the returns on the Beal trade.
Trae Young is happening, it’s just about draft compensation at this point.
He said the same thing twice at the end lol.
Excited man all stars wanting to play for us legit when was the last time we had a multiple time all star wanting to join us in their prime? This is awesome news and shows the future is definitely going to be bright.
I love this. We need a real playmaker to help our young guys develop and learn how to play. Trae also isn’t going to help us win to the point where it threatens getting a top pick. Only Adam Silver can prevent that
Well it’s been great knowing ya CJ McCollum! 😔😔😔
I can’t believe my eyes. When has a player ever requested a trade here
So it was Young’s team leaking?
When a player has the Wizards as their top ANYTHING, I instantly buy in. Especially after KD2DC…
I’M NOT USED TO BEING THE CENTER OF ATTENTION
A more competent offense mitigated by an even worse defense. Hopefully we don’t extend
I am so hyped for this. The Trae and Sarr connection will be so nice.
Calling it now, Dawkins pulls off that 2026 first from NOP.
I need the Trae propaganda to stop being pushed
Oh LORD
If there’s no draft comp coming to Washington we riot
It’s happening, CJ not playing tonight. Look y’all we need someone who can drop buckets and distribute the ball to our young guys. Trae does both in spades. Nobody wants to come to DC in FA and we have mad money to spend. Once we get Trae and trade/release Middleton we will have money to get a switchy PF/C to go with Sarr. I want us competing start of next year with an our new nice draft pick. Let’s fucking go!!!

Just need this now to troll the hawks featuring wizards, the hawks, Alex Sarr and Trae
Gilbert Arenas 2.0 & I’m Here For It 🧊💫
I know people are saying they don’t want Trae Young but the guy has averaged 25 and 10 in his career and is now entering his prime at 27. We could do much worse in a CJ dump. I personally welcome the trade for the record. Jeff Teague in his pod was speaking about it and saying it’s so hard to build around Trae unless you have a two guard whos 6 7 or 6 8 and a defensive center. In my head I thought, isn’t that Bilal and Alex Sarr?
So is Trae going to be picking up an “injury” after the trade? Can’t see him actually playing significant minutes until next year. I don’t see a way the FO punts on this loaded draft.
I guess he figured this would be best situation to rehab his value.

We have all the leverage now
If it happens and they own the new orleans pick I hope we get the right to swap picks if it’s lower than us. That in itself would make this worth it.
We don’t have a point guard, and if we do have a chance to get Peterson, it might be a minute before he figures it all out.
Morant and Ball might be available, but that would require us giving up picks or young players. Pass.
Middleton and McCollum were traded here for the sole reason to flip their contracts for a player like Young, a team wanting to get out of the contract and move on.
If I have this right, this has gone from Beal to CP 3 to Poole to McCollum to Young.
He will be our Paul George that we then flip for our SGA.
How do we feel about extending Trae Young? I like the idea of trading for him while also potentially receiving draft compensation, then flipping him next year when he’s an expiring OR just letting his contract expire altogether, but the idea of allotting a ton of cap space *after next season* to a player like Trae seems iffy
jeez a Trae Tre backcourt sounds like a nightmare defensively
Lets go! Im hype especially if we get a first, yall gonna be surprised the wonders a true talented passing pg is gonna do for our guys development
I don’t think this is a good idea. But I’ll be the first to say I thought it was if it works out.
Young: “I would prefer to make the $49 milli- err uhh I mean Washington my new home”
man fuck
I’m down for it. As long as we get draft capital. We don’t have a real PG, he fills that need, we haven’t traded for real talent that is in their prime in a LOOONG time, his defense sucks but we already suck on D. At least we can get a true scoring pg and offensive facilitator to fight fire with fire.
we will most likely move on from mcollum and Middletons high contracts- both are past their prime and not worth the money imho. Veteran leadership is great, but not worth 60 mil combined salary
Windhorst, Bontemps and MacMahon on Hoop Collective today mentioned that OKC, when Dawkins there, had an agreement with CP3 to help rehab his value when he was seen as a negative contract in the league, my guess is that Trae’s camp sees a lot of value in that which is why they like us as a destination for him.
Literally every insider is saying the same thing, this is an opportunistic asset play for the Wizards and not them wanting Trae for the longterm.
