BREAKING: CUBS MADE HUGE TRADE WITH MARLINS 🚨

The Chicago Cubs acquired right-handed starting pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins on January 7, 2026, in a trade that sent outfield prospect Owen Caissie, infield prospect Cristian Hernandez, and infield/outfield prospect Edgardo De Leon to Miami, bolstering the Cubs’ rotation with a controllable arm after a lackluster 2025 campaign; Cabrera, a 27-year-old Dominican with elite stuff including a 93-97 mph fastball that touches triple digits with heavy life and downhill plane, a curveball and slider both boasting over 43% whiff rates, and a solid changeup for strikes, finished 2025 with an 8-7 record, 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 150 strikeouts in 137.2 innings across 26 starts; Caissie, a 23-year-old left-handed Canadian outfielder renowned for his 60-grade raw power, strong throwing arm, improved batted-ball launch angles, and aggressive swing leading to a 29% career strikeout rate, hit .192 with 1 homer, 4 RBI, and a .568 OPS in 26 MLB at-bats over 12 games while thriving in Triple-A with a .286 average, 22 homers, 74 RBI, and 28 doubles in 99 games; Hernandez, a 21-year-old right-handed Dominican shortstop valued for his smooth stroke, bat speed, barrel feel, 50-grade hit tool, 55-grade run and arm, and average defense at shortstop with improved mechanics yielding a 135 wRC+ in High-A, batted .252 with 7 homers, 53 RBI, 52 stolen bases, and an unspecified OPS across 444 at-bats in the minors; De Leon, an 18-year-old right-handed Dominican corner infielder/outfielder highlighted by plus raw power, strong exit velocities, and speed (7.5 Spd rating) despite a 28.8% strikeout rate, slashed .276/.353/.500 with 5 homers, 15 RBI, 5 stolen bases, and an .853 OPS in 134 at-bats over 43 Rookie-level games in the Arizona Complex League 📝

  1. Imo fuzzy as a marlins fan we cooked the cubs and I’ll tell you why. 1. Eddy has issues with control and injuries and I think that will effect the cubs imo, 2 ik we got 2 lower level prospects but it’s ok because we’re trying to make our farm one of the best in the future, 3. Now we got an outfield of Stowers, Marsee, Caissie and Conine which is the best outfield I’ve seen since 2017 when we had, Stanton, Yelli, and Ozuna. I honestly think the future is bright in Miami and I honestly think Bendix has done a really good job and he’s amazing that actually might have saved Bruce Sherman as our owner. I also see us making the playoffs and being 3rd place in the division if things go our way. Go fish, FIGHTING FISH!!!

  2. Trade breakdown:

    Cubs get: RHP Edward Cabrera

Marlins get: OF Owen Caissie (Cubs No. 1), INF Cristian Hernandez (Cubs No. 11), INF Edgardo De Leon
