"The Mets are interested in both rentals and pitchers with club control," Rosenthal and Sammon stated. "Thus, Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers), Freddy Peralta (Milwaukee Brewers), MacKenzie Gore (Washington Nationals), Edward Cabrera (Miami Marlins), Kris Bubic (Kansas City Royals) and Brady Singer (Cincinnati Reds) are all among the conceivable options."

  1. I just don’t see much reason to give up a haul for Skubal when he’s for sure hitting FA and we’ll certainly be a big player then.

  2. Skubal for prospects isn’t smart. Something is wrong with this team sending away some of core but not the rottenest part is a mistake

  3. Trade Soto for prospects. Eat some of the contract. There’s no reason for him to be in queens anytime soon.

  4. Skubal would be a terrible idea. He makes us better, but doesn’t put us in the conversation with the upper echelon teams.

Get him next year as a free agent if he’s a target.

  5. How many more times are we going to hear that the Mets will be focusing on trades? The media has been repeating this headline since before the offseason even began.

Has the hot stove gotten so cold that we are going to discuss potential trade packages for Skubal for the 1000th time?

  6. Cabrera is now off the board. Gore is an intriguing one, I would love to add someone his age that could possibly resign after his contract is up. However, almost any trade will require them giving up tong. Outside of Skubal, them giving him up for anyone else makes me think they’ll be facing another PCA situation.

  7. We have the best farm in baseball but young, controllable starting pitching is extremely expensive. Look at the Shane Baz trade, it’s absurd.

I think we have to prospect-hug our SP prospects and sign Framber as a proven front of the rotation stopgap. We can get Skubal next year when the CBA is sorted out.

  8. Part of me wants us to go and get Peralta or Gore but the other part wants us to wait until the last minute to try and get Framber/Suarez on a short deal with high AAV

  9. I’ll believe the Mets are looking to make an impact trade when I see it happen. They’ve seemingly been very scared to move any noteworthy prospects despite having probably the deepest farm in baseball.

  10. Article says Mets are willing to deal Vientos, Mauricio, and Acuna. Wow you don’t say? Good luck getting anything of value back for those guys.

  11. That’s neat. Why didn’t they make trades all along?

They should have been buyers and sellers during the offseasons

  12. Mmm mm. Sounds like PR to me. Hey guys, we’re still writing emails and having meetings!

  13. There are no revelations here.
Though, I don’t believe for a second that Stearns will kill his farm chips to rent Skubal, when this roster at the moment isn’t even a favorite to make the postseason, let alone win a Championship.

  14. Glad Cabrera is going elsewhere.

It’s a polarizing issue, but the best track to follow is to develop your own pitching and obtain position players in FA. Generally.

I don’t want Skubal or Peralta at the cost of 2 or 3 prospects in our top ten. He, Skubal, will use up most of the rest of the budget and not move the needle enough.

Bubic makes sense. He’s odd man out in KC and they need bats. Vientos, plus a prospect in the 15-30 range OR a lottery ticket would be fair.

There really is no real sense in moving guys who are so close to producing at the major league level and fill holes (Benge, the pitchers, Jett, Ewing, Clifford)
