As a Pats fan that thinks Stafford actually deserves the MVP, Rams fans are starting to drive me crazy. Claiming Maye stole the passing triple crown because he was sacked more. I really hope the Panthers bounce these losers and round one.

Too much fent going around in LA, sad really
This might be the dumbest thing I have ever read on reddit.
If things were different…..things would be different! Posts like these are so silly lol
I just broke my neck trying to follow those mental gymnastics
They’re going to give it to Stafford as a Participation Trophy, just like they did with Allen last year.
I think Maye deserves the MVP, mostly bc I think he did more with less. I don’t think Stafford is a bad candidate for it either. It’s close imo.
But I just can’t bring myself to care all that much when we have a playoff game in a few days. It matters so much more to me as a fan.
And the comments are talking about how PATRIOTS fans are obsessed the the mvp, these people need to get a life
The copium needs to take a rest, we will know February 5th
All that I took away from this is that Drake did more with a lesser offensive line
Would OOP do the same for Staffords sacks? Any sack less than 2 yards is an incompletion?
I’d assume not
They’re not taking “Bakemas” into consideration, so how analytical are they really being.
I don’t care about mvp awards at all.
I don’t know why people aren’t pushing the narrative more that Maye has 100 less passing attempts. I don’t give any weight to stafford leading in passing yards
Maye takes short sacks because he’s mobile and runs forwards 3 years before going down.
I think they both had tremendous years, and one of them did it on a team with far fewer weapons than the other. That makes Maye more valuable. The Stanford fans getting mad that daddy Detroit deserves his lifetime achievement award is really hilarious to watch.
How many sacks did Maye prevent because of his mobility?? If you dropped Stafford in the NE offense behind our OL, how many additional sacks would he have taken.
Isn’t that the definition of most valuable. You put Maye on LA and he makes them even better. You put Stafford on NE and we become worse. You don’t need to write a soft porn short story to understand this.
And if my aunt had wheels she’d be a bike. (Also it’s funny that apparently you’re only supposed to throw away short yardage sacks and shouldn’t be able to throw away ones when you’re further behind the LOS because ?????
Would you rather maye win mvp or NE beats LAC this weekend?
Rams fans can pray for mvp all they want, but the team that wins this weekend will be happier than the team that loses regardless of mvp

The thing that’s really rich about that is if you want something that takes absolutely all context into account, including things like sacks, yardage lost on sacks, conversions on money downs, fumbles, yardage lost on interceptions, how difficult a TD pass was, etc, you end up with EPA/play where Maye demolishes Stafford with any model I’ve seen.
I’ve accepted that Stafford will probably win MVP, but I really wish people would be honest about it basically being a lifetime achievement award for him, there’s no serious stats-based case for him except “more TDs”, which is really asinine.
For some reason this was on my feed this morning too. The absolute irony of Rams fans talking about stat padding is wild.
Somehow we always seem to be missing that Drake BLEW STAFFORD OUT OF THE WATER RUSHING. How many 1st downs did Stafford rush for? Half the QBs in the league could have taken the Rams to the 5 seed, MAYBE 3 could have taken the Pats to the 2, end of story.
The “subtle stat pad”, implying Maye intentionally picks which sacks to take so would win passer rating over Stafford…
What the fuck even is this?
Los Angeles Wahhhhms
How many 1 yd tuddies did Pad Statford throw? Dude was a RB touchdown vulture. The answer is 15. 15 out of 46 to be exact. lol could you imagine the patriots not running the ball from the 1 99% of the time? Matt stafford had a great year but those touchdowns prob shouldnt weigh too much on mvp
Bro Stafford threw 597 pass attempts…. They are over here trying to shave those attempts by 80 🤣
Edit:oh never mind it’s even dumber than I thought, they are just saying Maye should have thrown 24 more incompletions instead of being sacked…. Wtf is this copium they are on?!

Wouldn’t it be smarter to throw it away if you’re deeper in the backfield? Maye doesn’t get many sack yard because he scrambles and gets tackled before he crosses the line… Dumbdumbdumb
If my grandmother had wheels, she would’ve been a bike!
Right so how many sacks did Stafford take that should’ve been throwaways?
Actually while we’re at it, how many incompletions did he throw that should’ve been interceptions?
FOH with this noise. Maye-VP.
Ask them about how 90 percent of Staffords games were played in a dome/warm weather. No one talks about that.
This would be like saying “If Stafford didn’t throw all those 1 yard TDs, Maye would have more passing TDs than him.”
The irony of discussing stat padding and it not being about Stafford
How many of those 24 sacks were Maye escaping a bigger loss and settling for a sack closer to the line of scrimmage? A true MVP lets his team face 2nd and 18, not 2nd and 12. /s
That dude is the top mod over there. He’s legit nuts
Drake Maye intentionally took sacks to protect his passer rating? Got it.
Goofy post but goofier to go into their sub and care what they’re saying. Rams fans are gonna be biased in favor of Stafford. Pats fans will be biased in favor of Maye. No need to clutch our pearls over it
Hypotheticals huh? Dude must also be a big SEC guy.
Bro said “if” he threw away the ball 24 more times… yeah that didn’t happen probably wouldn’t have these convos if the guy who was propped up to be the mvp all year just won his division and didn’t loose to the falcons and panthers
I love how people think that top athletes, instead of trying their hardest on the singular goal of winning, are consumed with calculating how many yards they can lose vs how many incompletions they have – stats which are meaningless or detrimental to the game and therefore the team’s success – so that they can edge out the other guy in advance stats.
But even if you accept that, the thought that Maye is working for those calculations during mid-season games against Cleveland and Atlanta (where he took six sacks each) is laughable. Fewer than 1/4 of his sacks happened in the last 1/2 of the season.
But I guess that’s because he worked so hard to pad his stats early on, so he was able to take the second half off.
…did they not do the same thing for Staffords sacks?
I don’t pretend to know how ESPN’s QBR works vs traditional QB Rating, but for what it’s worth, Maye also leads the NFL in that stat with 77.2. Purdy and Love are tied for second with 73.1 and Stafford is fourth with 71.0… so not particularly close on that one.
All that is to say you can make the stats look any way you want. I think of it this way. If Joshua Dobbs starts 17 games for the Patriots we go 4-13 again. If JimmyG stats 17 games for the Rams, they go 10-7 and make the playoffs still. Maye is unquestionably more valuable to his team this year than Stafford is to his
Drake is the most efficient QB with the least talented supporting cast, relatively.
I don’t understand how that can mean anything other than MVP. Stafford threw a lot of TDs which is maybe the least important QB stat. It’s completely team and coach dependant. Efficiency stats are much more of a pure indicator of QB quality.
If we adjusted for # of attempts, Maye would have had 606 more passing yards and 1000+ more total yards than Stafford this season. Also would have had 42 total touchdowns (38 passing and 4 rushing).
Let’s just stick to what the facts are for Stafford’s sake.
> As a Pats fan that thinks Stafford actually deserves the MVP
Respect to Stafford but he underperformed or tied Maye in every metric besides touchdowns and passing yards (Maye has more total yards though as he has 450 rushing yards to Stafford’s 1).
The common argument from Rams fans is those numbers are easy to put up against bad teams. I’d make the argument a bad team can have a good defense, but I don’t need to because the stats still holdup versus common opponents (and he lost to 2 of them).
What Stafford has done is genuinely impressive, especially given his point in his career, but look at his supporting cast versus Maye’s. The Rams would improve with Maye, the Patriots would be worse with Stafford.
A word that is notably absent from this post is “rushing”.
