Expirings have value as long as teams see the players as money that can come off their books to have cap space to work with down the road. FO look more to the contract than the players themselves sometimes since they come off the books a few months later
But if OP wants to get a good player with those expirings, then they as players aren’t offering much value to teams. I still think the Lakers can get quality players with those expirings, but getting someone the team covets with those contracts, especially since Rob isn’t creative enough to do those kinda of trades? Yeah that’s not gonna happen and that’s where OP is coming from
Still gotta move them at the end of the day
He’s old and injury prone, that’s why his value tanks but let’s not forget what we had to trade Ingram, Lonzo, Hart and 3 first round picks to get him (and with some pressure from AD himself).
No it’s not .. the lakers keep trying to trade expiring contracts for good talent with expiring or good contracts . You haven’t heard the lakers linked to anybody with yrs left on their contract and taking on money
Expirings in this example matter because they are going big fishing hunting for a distressed asset (AD). We arent going after this type of player so comparing us doesnt matter.
